Lacrosse 2016

I agree....It is a total collapse and players deserve the blame just as much as Corrigan!

As for Epple's hit, I agree...but you have to remember that he got blasted earlier in the game. It's hard to let something like that go, especially when the game's over....Definitely uncalled for though.

Corrigan is a great coach, but again he can't get over the hump. But, then again maybe talent does play in to that, even though I still feel ND is even with NC.

Reality check????

As we were all sitting around and complaining about how ND played, my younger son says, "It comes down to talent. carolina has 20 Under Armor All Americans and Notre Dame has 10. They looked quicker and faster than Notre Dame."

I guess at this point I'll agree with his wiseness...

How many do UA AAs do you think Brown has? It's not as big of a deal in lax as it is football or bball.

Really, totally in shock. IMO, this really was coaching. carolina came out focused, and on fire. They wanted the game more, and it showed.

Definitely a failed season and really peeved right now! Absolutely no excuse to get beat like they just did at this point and time.

I've been pretty generous with Corrigan, who I think is a great coach, but I didn't understand this game plan at all.

The entire lacrosse playing world knew face-offs were going to be a problem, and that Notre Dame's ride is the best in the country. Why wasn't the game plan to concede the clamp, force Kelly to win it backward, and then unleash the attackmen and long stick wings on him? That's text book.

6 on 6 offense was terrible as well. Quint Kessenich pointed it out - Kavanaugh and Gurnsey behind the cage allowed the high defenders to press out on Perk. Why not adjust there and put two men on the crease?

Extraordinarily disappointing. Easily the worst game they played all year. I haven't checked their commit list, but I really hope there's a FOGO specialist on it. Not having one has cost them big the last two years.

My son was saying the same question about face-offs and getting pretty agitated from it. I don't know why he didn't adjust.

I actually already have everything lined up and paid up for Philly....and now no ND to root for....Talk about being extremely disappointed!

So glad I didn't drive up to Cbus yesterday, talk about a massive waste of time and $.

So....ND ends up #5 in the final polls...Right behind the final four teams... Still pretty disappointing...amazing how expectations change your perspective....

I will say, although we couldn't have been any more disappointed that they weren't at championship weekend, the event was an absolute blast. We've been to a lot of sporting events, and this was definitely our favorite..... We got to meet the Thompson brothers, Rabil, most of the Maryland players, and most of UNC's players. Lacrosse players are the nicest people you will ever meet. We've been to MLL games, college games, and now this championship weekend and they really go out of their way to say hello.....UNC players were slightly more social with us so that actually became the team we rooted for....which was totally different from what we were hoping for from the beginning since they thrashed ND.

Some things that stuck out to me over the weekend:

Division III game: Salibury was the most impressive TEAM we saw. Their ball movement and unselfish play was lacrosse at its best.

Division II game: Lacrosse NEEDS a shot clock to be more fan friendly.

Division I game: Recruiting matters...20 UA All Americans and it was noticeable. UNC just had the extra burst. They looked the most athletic and it payed off. Also, face-offs are just too big a part of the game right now.....Once again why a shot clock is a necessity....At least it will minimize that advantage a little bit.

LAX is still the most exciting sport that people don't know about...It really is a blast!

Some strong rumors that Corrigan is headed to his alma mater, uva, to take over their program. If true, this is big, as he has been at ND for 28 years..

Most likely to take over...Their current assistant, coach Byrne...

Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Looks like it's official...Corrigan is gone.

You have to wonder if that lingered over the program's head as they laid an egg against unc?

28 years....That's a long freakin' time. I hope they do a thorough search and find the right person who is going to take this team to the promised land....whether that is Byrne, or someone else. Obviously Corrigan has done everything for this program...except win on Memorial Day!

Is this like Roy Williams leaving Kansas for NC?

Best of luck to him. Even though he came up short too often, he still built the program from the ground up, much respect.

Ya, Corrigan played lacrosse for uva, and then started as an assistant there. I am pretty sure his dad coached there too so there is a lot of history with uva. Will be pretty weird for the Irish to face off against him down the road...

Looks like the internet/media jumped the gun again...

From insidelacrosse.com:

After a week of speculation that he'd be the next head men's lacrosse coach at the University of Virginia, Notre Dame coach Kevin Corrigan emailed alumni saying he looked forward to returning to the sidelines in South Bend.

"The greatest privilege of my life has been the opportunity to coach all of you at Notre Dame. I'm happy to know I will continue in that role going forward. I look forward to doing more great things together."

The email was sent at 5:07 p.m. on May 8.

You gotta like this!!!

From InsideLacrosse.com

Swezey's Way-Ahead 2017 Rankings

1. Notre Dame (11-4, lost in NCAA Quarterfinals)

The Fighting Irish have lost to the eventual national champion in nine of the past 11 years, including five years in a row. Such stats may show bad luck but they also show a program on the verge of a breakthrough. Dom Starsia said his best advice was that his first title would come in a year when he least expected it. That title game in 1999, when Virginia entered the year ranked No. 7 but ending it breaking a 27-year title drought. Notre Dame peaked a little early in 2016; they became the latest team to be ranked No. 1 in the first poll in March to not win a title. (The last to do so was Johns Hopkins in 2005.) In 2017, with no one expecting the Fighting Irish to win a title, I believe they will turn the trick.

That's pretty weak justification. Imo, Perkovic is overrated, he's a selfish player as exhibited by his low assist number. I'm not sure who else they have back that can score besides Wynne and Garnsey
