Hartman slipped Leonard Freeman's burner phone number after the Duke game.  Why do you think he waited outside the med tent for so long?

Tell him to slip to some wide receivers.

In all honesty this is the new norm folks, I know it seems like the sky is falling but get ready for this every year with NIL and transfer rules the way they are. The college rules changed and teams have to adapt

Yes it is. Best wait until the dust settles before getting too upset about things.

So Freeman declared he wants 4 scholarship QBs on the roster.  He also seems to have a philosophy of chasing the best kids possible (can't blame him for that).  So he's probably never going to just get a "depth" player.  The kids on the roster will have to rise up and beat them out.

Dumb question- how can this QB thing be a done deal when the portal opens?  Are they working through intermediaries?  Or are players on other rosters allowed to call opposing coaches if they want?

The universities and coaches can't talk to the players but the collectives and people of that nature can...

The rules here really are just set up for failure.

The no contact prior to the portal opening and/or the no contact flag in the portal is one of the only good things about the portal right now. This allows (1) the current staff to talk to the player(s) for a few days about their plans / needs and (2) it allows players to test the waters and see what options they have without going through another round of recruiting and being bombarded by coaches.

The rules that lead to failure are the ones ND can't use to their advantage because of internal politics and self imposed roadblocks.

Sounds like ND might be the favorite to land Mitchell and Clark. That would be huge as ND would likely have landed their starting WR and nickel, along with starting QB in Leonard, and all could all happen quickly.

Is the Leonard thing a done deal for the most part?

How about ND land Julian Fleming from Ohio State. That would be an absolute take.

Think he would be a great addition, but no insight on him.

Probably depends on if he is set to graduate from OSU this year. If he won't graduate, then he won't be coming. ND doesn't take transfers after they've completed sophomore year (talking about all students, not just student-athletes), and it's very hard to get admitted to ND as a non-freshman transfer. Players who are freshmen will have an easier time (but still difficult) if they have taken the proper classes at their original school. ND is very stringent on which credits are eligible to transfer over.
