15 per Hour

I consider myself to be fairly libertarian. I am about as anti socialist, redistribution of wealth, etc...as you can get.

The 'system' is manipulated by those with the money. As a nation we argue a lot about Democrat vs Republican, liberal vs conservative etc...

The simple fact is, those who call the shots are none of those things...or maybe they are all of those things, what they are really are....are those that call the shots. Get it?

Remember I am anti socialist, but PLEASE watch this video. I saw it for the first time just a few days ago. It says things in a way that I cannot. The picture of wealth in this country is NOT what I thought it was.

The majority of people are sheep. Fact is, the majority are happily led to the slaughterhouse on a diet of happy meals, american idol and espn. They choose to remain ignorant and poor.

The 0.01% in your video know that's the nature of most people... and so why educate them and upset the apple cart?

In fact, I could argue that society today is the product of your libertarian ethos because they are too lazy to change their lifestyle, or to vote for their interests. Stupid is as a stupid does.

If you're smart and aware enough, you can easily get to the 1%, and if you have no morals or scruples, and a dash of good looks and charisma, you will be in the 0.1% ... and within two generations, your progeny will be in the 0.01% if they share these outlooks and talents.

McBugger flip tribe is campaigning for $15/hr ... way to set the bar low. Throw them a burger or two, and a lucky coupon for a peppermint shake at Christmas, and they'll shut up, and keep pouring the product of their labor to the super wealthy.

It is God's plan ... he gave us free will... most choose not to take it's full advantage.

The problem is people want $15 an hour, but they don't want to have to work any harder for it.

I deliver papers in the morning, everyday from 3AM to 6AM, a little longer on the weekends. I make around $19 an hour when all is said and done. Not bad for a "part-time" gig, especially as I could work another job if I chose.

There are currently two or three routes available that my supervisor can't fill. No one will take them. So in this economy, $17-19 dollars an hour is being passed up because the hours sort of suck, but they want $15 to flip burgers? Please.

$15 in Seattle. I live in Seattle and back it. If it means I pay 10% more for coffee fine.

The law needs to distinguish between full time and part time employees while not letting employers game the system.

Those in power choose libertarian principles when it suits them. They also choose heavy handed government manipulation when it suits them.

Do you think you are smart enough and worked hard enough to be in the top 1%? Are you in the top 1%?. Interesting. If so, I would love to hear how you did it. Me, I am tired. Top 10% was good enough and I stopped trying after that. Really what's the point if your house is 5000 sq. feet or 1500 sq. feet? Your car is a brand new Escalade or a 9 year old Durango? Doesn't matter much to me. I just want a warm, cozy room, a nice TV, and a drink in my hand. Ahhhh.

I am pretty smart. I worked pretty hard. I make six figures (in a small town, not NYC,LA, or Chicago etc.) I am in the top 10% of income earners in my county. But the difference between top 10% and 1% of income is unimagineable. The top 1% have 40% of the wealth. I imagine no matter what 'system' is in place it would be this way.

don't get me wrong, I don't feel bad for the poor and stupid at all. lol. I am just thankful I am not one of them. I guess the point I am trying to make is.......the 1% really could help out the bottom. NO, not via government tax and redistribution. It needs to be a moral choice that 1% makes, and most don't seem to make it.

A lot of people in the 1% do, a lot of people in the 1% don't.

Ultimately the question is, how do you help those who won't help themselves?

Wow. This board never ceases to amaze me. Are any of you Catholics? Have you read the Gospel, not written by Ayn Rand or Rush Limbaugh.

What in the world does Catholicism have to do with government policy? You belong to an organized religion. Good for you. Structure your life and your financial givings accordingly instead of trying to shove it down the throats of the rest of us. Religion has absolutely NO role in setting government policies. Your "moral compass" might not be the same as the rest of the country's "moral compass" which is EXACTLY why it is not used to navigate off of.

Right on man! You can't help those who can't / won't help themselves... not as a way of life. They're just a drain on the gene pool.

At some point, you have to write-off the losses... or they have to accept cutting your lawn and weeding your garden, if they're lucky.

Social programs are upsetting the natural order... there are more humans than necessary ... as a whole, we are no better than parasites eating the host (my pocketbook).

The zombie apocolypse is now, 90% of the population just doesn't know it's already dead.

AMEN! (haha)

This REPUBLIC is about laws over men... but the smart men write the laws. haha.

The doctrine is the constitution. The bible thumpers (Papists, Evangelicals, Satanists, Humanists, the Istists) should keep it private.

The constitution didn't guarantee a minimum wage, it guarantees a right to assemble and speak your mind, practice your beliefs (in private), and carry a gun (arms - which i could argue should include RPGs, tanks and so on).

Majority rules (eventually).

They should ban prayer in the military.

Another question is, do we really need to help those who won't help themselves?

At what point do people need to take responsibility for their past decisions (e.g. not graduating high school) and current lack of initiative?

If someone wants to make more than $8 per hour, then they should make themselves more valuable. I have no sympathy for someone who complains he/she wants a higher income but sits and watches hours of TV each week. My wife and I have multiple businesses. In one, we pay $10 per hour to part-time retail workers and in another we pay over $80 per hour to IT workers. I have no problem with either scenario since we pay what we feel we need to in order to recruit the type of workers that we want/need for each business and minimize our turn-over.

Do our IT employees work 8 times harder than our retail workers? No, but they have developed the skills to make themselves 8 times more valuable. If people want to make more than $8 per hour, then they should take some steps to improve their marketability as employees or to even start their own businesses.
