Now that is what I am talking about. In addition to the powerhouse combo of Hansb and Abro, Scott looked good, Nash played totally unselfish ball, and Cooley even came in to spark the crowd for some extra energy. I still think they need to dish it down to Nash more. I really believe that is when they are at their best. I expect this focus and energy down the stretch. This is an older team and they know what they are doing. Great victory!

Where da haters????? What a year so far' date=' Brey for Coach of the Year.[/quote']

Not so fast.

That was a nice win during the regular season, true.

The season in its glorious totality all boils down to how we perform at the NCAA tourney. We make it to the final 8, get to play in a Regional final: that's a very good year and Coach Brey deserves Big East Coach of the Year. We make it to the Final Four: that's a great year and Coach Brey deserves National Coach of the Year. We make it to the finals: superb (first ever for ND) and Brey better get NCY. Championship: unthinkably remarkable and legendary, and Brey gets a big contract from ND to go with the NCY trophy.

Can we just remember that this team was picked to finish #11 in the Big East in the preseason. Even if they go out in the second round, this is an accomplishment for a team that was not supposed to make the tourney.

They are having a great year.

That's right and not one other team in their conference can say they've been undefeated at home. Have to give them some credit. They are not the best basketball team by far but they are keeping others on their toes. Not to be dismissed as a cupcake team. Go Irish! Beat down UConn.

I have to disagree: exceeding low expectations does not a good season make. That's just a symptom of a program that is not doing well. Coach Brey has been at the helm a long time, and by now the Irish should be more than just regular participants in The Tourney. There is no reason Notre Dame should not field a team that consistently gets past game two.

Hey, did you ever explain what's up with your sig? It looks like a photo of a wedding proposal juxtaposed against various locations from around the world?

I guess here is my thinking.

1) I think the expectations this year was that it would be a rebuilding year without Harangody. He was a big part of the team last year and it didn't appear as if there were any additions that would make it a top of the league team.

2) Basketball expectations at ND will always be lower than football. That it mostly because of the landscape of college basketball. College basketball is the world of the one-and-done type of player. Notre Dame is probably the only team in the top ten without players that are going to be big players in the NBA. The fact that ND has a senior laden team, which is how it succeeds means that there are down times when the team is young. Look at OSU. How many of their key players are freshman (answer 3).

    • The players are getting paid because there is a market that wants to see success on the field.  Because that market watches, advertisers pay a lot of money to be seen while that market watches.  In return, that advertising money comes back to the school in the form of millions of dollars in various ways.  Paying for better players means even more value for advertisers and more money for Notre Dame to build buildings or fund programs. The average student who goes to Notre Dame doesn’t generate millions of dollars for the school.  If they decide not to go there, someone else will fill the spot so they can have access to the excellent education funded by the football program and its players.  I don’t see why the university would pay students to come (except for the absolute brightest) when supply and demand is in Notre Dame’s favor in a big way.  The alums are part of the market that wants results on the field so their money goes towards those results which in turn increases value for Notre Dame, too.  Paying kids to come doesn’t have much benefit to those alums either… I get what’s being said about working hard to pay for your kid to go to college, but there are just too many folks in the same boat while a big source of revenue for schools is football…the value of the school increases if football thrives.  It’s simple business, unfortunately, and ordinary students are the consumer.  Nobody pays consumers if they want to stay in business.
    • OK, fine, I'm getting excited.   We've been winning a lot of these. My take:  Golden commit forces Zackery hand?  Takes the last ND DB spot? It's nothing but expeditious!  Was always the answer.  No other reason to move up his commitment.   I expect he will commit to his dream school for a shot at the Natty!  The synergy is real here.  It's the staff, too, but it's bigger.  Like minded kids.  And they're all conspiring to come together for the title shot, and this staff has them convinced it's in South Bend!
    • Slight nit, take the government out of guaranteed student loans.  Single handedly has been the biggest cause of soaring tuition and crushing debt for borrowers. Otherwise I'm in between as far as NIL.  It's chaos currently and we are still in Flux with the changes that have happened and stuff that's still to come.  We are far from settled in this shifting landscape of college athletics.
