Today, in the small town of Buñol, Spain, trucks will haul more than 100 tons of tomatoes to serve as ammo for the world’s largest food fight. Known as La Tomatina, the festival is held the last Wednesday of August and draws a crowd of 20,000 tomato-flingers who clearly don’t mind being left on red.

No one knows how this tradition began, but the town is probably eager to keep it going. Because of the citric acid of the tomatoes strewn everywhere, the clean-up leaves Buñol more sparkling than it was before.

94. I’ve heard of this, and it looks like an absolute blast!

Makes me miss Spain. I spent about one month total, on two different trips, to Moron AB and Sevilla, Spain during my time in the military. The town around Moron AB was such a beautiful little place, and Sevilla was tons of fun. Loved it there, and want to go back so bad!

Have a great time!

99. I had those when I was a kid!!!!!

100.  And you survived!  You also probably played dodgeball, climbed trees, rode in the back of a pick-up truck, didn't wear a helmet while riding a back, and so forth.  They stole all the fun of being a kid.  That which does not kill you makes you stronger.

Hell yes. I remember doing all that and then some. I can remember the old man having a softball tournament in a town close by....my mom was a nurse so she's working and us kids just running around whatever town with like 5 bucks buying big league chew and mountain dew in a glass bottle. Not a care in the world. No big deal. My old man saying check the tournament board so you know when we play and you'll know when to be back. Too easy. Damn....shit was so much nicer then. Guaranteed I put like 6 to 10 thousand miles on my bike with no issue. Hitting up buddies houses or riding around the lake swimming or fishing. Being kids. I also remember though when I f'd up. It wasn't cool. Respect and telling the truth and / or owning up to your behavior was a thing. It was nobody else's fault but yours. Ownership. It's unfortunately missing any more. F around and we definitely found out. We didn't do much wrong because we knew....shit wouldn't be cool. Respect meant something. Anyway. Go irish.

104.  Sounds similar to my childhood.  Outside all summer long, except lunch, and back home when street lights came on or you heard your parents calling for you.  It was great with a neighborhood full of kids, and most only had dad working, so mom's were at home no day care.  Pick up games of baseball or football, riding your bikes, playing army or cowboys and indians.  On weekend nights it was hide and seek, ghosts in the graveyard, or chasing fireflies around.

Glass bottles of Mt Dew, boy that takes my back!  We used to run down to the local grocery or the old gas station when ever we got enough change to buy a pack of baseball cards.  Then spend the next hour like shrewd Arab traders swapping cards of your favorite players or teams.  Never could stomach gum, let alone that stall stick in the card pack lol.
