  1. Did you mean to ask "Is there a son of someone famous (or ultra wealthy) on scholarship whose talent is questionable suggesting that something other than football ability was a consideration in granting him a roster spot?"
  2. Zach Martin going in first round will definitely help with future OL recruiting (not that it seems that ND needs much help these days)
  3. Unlike most walk-ons who seems to be a little slow, light, and/or short compared to ND's typical recruits at the same position, in this case, his measurables appear fit Kelly's profile.
  4. Wow, the power of marketing... Now I understand the dollars spent by Nike, UA, Adidas, etc. It works! (Disclaimer: I'm immune in terms of the advertising impact on my footwear purchases since 12 EEEE feet does not allow much freedom of choice. It's pretty much New Balance for my athletic footwear)
  5. ND (i.e. Jack) knew they were negotiating from a position of strength as opposed to "pull down his pants" Kevin White
  6. Quarter Zip looks pretty good to me. Nice and conservative with just a little something extra (Zipper and stripes) to make it more than a pure white top.
  7. Go ahead and use it as you see fit. numbers (except for variance) themselves are from cfbstats.com. What is depressing to some extent is looking at differential numbers for Bama, FSU and Baylor this year. They blow Kelly's 2009 away.
  8. For what it is worth, here are yards per play by year since I thought I read somewhere that yards per play differential is the best measure of a team's strength. Year -Cinc - Opp - Diff 2007 - 6.0 - 5.0 - 1.0 2008 - 5.6 - 4.7 - 0.9 2009 - 7.0 - 5.2 - 1.8 Year - ND - Opp - Diff 2010 - 5.5 - 5.2 - 0.4 2011 - 5.9 - 5.1 - 0.9 2012 - 6.0 - 4.8 - 1.2 2013 - 6.1 - 5.1 - 1.0
  9. I think that Kelly & Company have a certain number of commits that they will take at each position but they also have a few slots reserved for "best available" allowing them to take the last minute 5 star commit.
  10. It's completely possible that his dad took the Purdue job knowing that Amir would transfer to ND.
  11. Actually Amir had gotten a waiver from the NCAA to play right away due to his father becoming S&C coach for Purdue but Amir was broke his ankle and had to redshirt the 2012 season for medical reasons. http://espn.go.com/chicago/college-football/story/_/id/7691002/notre-dame-fighting-irish-amir-carlisle-ok-play-2012-tee-shepard-leaves-school
  12. I stayed at both the Hilton Time Square and New York Hilton (Midtown) a few times back in 2003 and 2004 and liked the Hilton Time Square better.
  13. Bryant played two games for the Irish before he was injured http://www.cfbstats.com/2013/player/513/1056670/index.html
  14. Everything else equal, a talented senior will be better than a talented freshman so normally you do not need to worry about upperclassmen looking over their shoulders that much. The only cases where this does not apply is when a freshman is much more talented than the upperclassman (e.g. Jaylon Smith) and those are the recruits that you need on your team to play at the highest level. Let cream rise to the top. If players get passed up, then they will help make the team better by providing depth and keeping the first string from getting too comfortable (e.g. Rees) or simply transfer (e.g. Crist)
  15. I believe that he was at ND for a week long camp last summer.
  16. Is BVG a "splash hire" for DC? It seems that his NFL/SEC resume coupled with his attacking philosophy would be enticing to recruits.
  17. From Cincinnati so easy for him to get to South Bend.
  18. It would be worth having the same discussion with these same folks ten+ years from now. Tuitt might be OK with his NFL millions but the players that don't get that opportunity will probably be glad to have the ND degree and networking connections.
  19. In his defense, he was a rookie playing in a new defense. I am guessing (/hoping) that he will look much better next season.
  20. The guy Castisllo broke his ankle playing football at the West Point Prep School but never entered the academy and never served in the armed forces. He then claimed a 30% disability as a "veteran" to get a monthly check and to allow his company to win government contracts as a disabled veteran-owned business. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-11-13/news/ct-met-duckworth-disability-bill-1113-20131113_1_disability-duckworth-veterans-act
  21. IrishShamrock, when you computed the adjusted ranking I am guessing that you did not re-rank all other teams according to their personnel losses as well. Not complaining (would be too much work to re-rank every team) but just wanted to point out that your computed adjusted rank for Notre Dame is probably lower than it actually should be.
  22. Forget interviewing folks from pedestrian offenses such as Baylor or Oregon, let's go for folks tied to the high powered Buffalo offense
