ND Commits

Jaylen Sneed (OLB): #45 overall (down 4 spots)

Tyson Ford (SDE): #50 overall (up 55 spots)

Aiden Gobaira (WDE): #82 overall (up 123 spots)

Billy Schrauth (OG): #85 overall (up 40 spots)

Aamil Wagner (OT): #124 overall (up 72 spots)

Joshua Burnham (ILB): #125 overall (up 38 spots)

Tobias Merriweather (WR): #133 overall (up 34 spots)

Joey Tanona (OG): #175 overall (down 3 spots)

Jaden Mickey (CB): #190 overall (down 9 spots)

Eli Raridon (TE): #195 overall (down 17 spots)

Niuafe Tuihalamaka (ILB): #203 overall (down 6 spots)

Ty Chan (OG): #218 overall (down 107 spots)

Jadarian Price (RB): #241 overall (down 3 spots)

For those keeping track at home, that is 13 commits in the Top 250, which is over 60% of the class. Four guys in the Top 100 and seven in the Top 150. Some huge jumps for Ford, Gobaira, Schrauth, Wagner, Burnham, and Merriweather - all guys who performed really well at the All American Game. The other guys only moved down a few spots mostly. Raridon got unlucky because his injury prevented him from competing in any postseason events - I still think he will be really good. Ty Chan was the biggest mover in the opposite direction. He struggled a bit at the Under Armour All American Game. He is a very raw prospect and has never really had formal OL coaching. His OL coach at the game said he has great potential because of his physical traits. He will benefit greatly being coached by HH.

For comparison, here is how this class stacks up to the previous four classes:

2022: 4 Top 100, 13 Top 250 (21 commits)

2021: 3 Top 100, 8 Top 250 (27 commits)

2020: 3 Top 100, 9 Top 250 (17 commits)

2019: 2 Top 100, 7 Top 250 (22 commits)

2018: 4 Top 100, 10 Top 250 (27 commits)

I think this is the best class of that group. The 2020 class was great (Mayer, Johnson, Tyree), but it was small. I think this is the second best class of the BK era, behind only the insane class of 2013, which had 6 Top 100 players (including four 5-stars), and 13 Top 250 players in a 24-man class.

Recruiting is clearly trending up with the 2022 class and now the 2023 class, which has 8 commits so far - 5 of which are Top 100 (4 in the Top 50) and 7 of which are in the Top 250, with plenty of elite-level targets still on the table. Need to get an elite QB and need to load up on WR, and ND will be in really good shape going forward.

Felt all along Gobaira was underrated.

Team Rankings

1. Alabama: 14 Top 100, 20 Top 250 (24 commits)

2. Texas A&M: 8 Top 100, 18 Top 250 (27 commits)

3. Georgia: 10 Top 100, 16 Top 250 (27 commits)

4. Ohio State: 7 Top 100, 17 Top 250 (21 commits)

5. Texas: 4 Top 100, 13 Top 250 (28 commits)

6. Notre Dame: 4 Top 100, 13 Top 250 (21 commits)

7. Penn State: 4 Top 100, 8 Top 250 (24 commits)

8. Michigan: 4 Top 100, 8 Top 250 (23 commits)

9. North Carolina: 4 Top 100, 9 Top 250 (17 commits)

10. Oklahoma: 2 Top 100, 10 Top 250 (17 commits)

These may fluctuate since there are still a few highly rated recruits who are uncommitted, but this gives an idea of where ND stands compared to the rest of the Top 10. ND simply needs more Top 100 kids if they want to truly compete for a national title. Simple as that. Again, this is a good class, but ND needs to do better going forward. I think they can get there with Freeman, as shown by ND's current 2023 class.

In my opinion, to truly compete, ND would need 1-2 five stars, 6-8 top 100 guys and 15-17 top 250 guys each year for several years before they can go toe to toe with the big boys.

Agreed. Need more 5-star/Top 50 guys. Need more Top 100 guys.

If ND holds on to CJ WIliams (#46 overall) and Devin Moore (#140 overall), that makes a difference. Add in guys who ND was in the top group for but couldn't land, like Xavier Nwankpa (#19 overall), Nicholas Singleton (#42 overall), Anthony Lucas (#56 overall), and Drew Allar (#69 overall), and this class is a lot closer to Bama/A&M/UGA/OSU.
