2018 ND Lacrosse

Recommended Posts

10 days off, and the offense is still a joke. unc...losers of 7 in a row....was playing without 3 key players, including their faceoff specialist. ND got 17 out of 22 faceoffs....17/22....ZERO excuse for losing this game. This was a must win for the Irish. They will not make the tourney now. They'll will most likely get embarrassed by duke next week, and that will be all she wrote. Huge let down of a season.

I want to see fresh, young blood coaching on the sidelines, but that won't happen.

Corrigan shouldn’t be fired for 1 bad season. Now, if there’s not a major turn around next year, that’s a difft story.

There's zero percent chance Corrigan will ever be fired. It's definitely retirement or nothing at this point, as he is all ND lacrosse knows. He has made ND lacrosse what it is, and it's not a money making sport.

But, it's really not just this year. He's consistenly losing big games, and he has had some elite talent to work with the past 5 plus years. He just doesn't modify his offense at all, and is 100% old school with choosing his player personnel. There are a lot of more knowledgeable people than me that agree that he leaves amazing talent on the bench to play "his people." He has proven that he won't adjust his offense, and it's not working....Just ask Garnsey...Why do you think he wanted to transfer.....

HUGE game this evening for the Irish as they take on a 12-2 Duke team that is currently ranked #2. If ND loses this game, their season is pretty much over, other than a game against a sub-par army team next weekend. If they can somehow put things together, and play like their balls are on fire, they should have a good chance of making the tourney, as long as they beat army.

As I stated earlier, I don't have much confidence that they win this game, but that's why they play. Game is on espnu at 6:00. GO IRISH!

I guess when this team is healthy they can beat anyone?

ND definitely wanted this game more. They came out hungry, getting all the 50-50 balls, and Garnsey would not accept losing (5 goals). Costabile with the hat trick too! Definitely surprised to see them play the way they did tonight.

ACC CHAMPS! I would have never guessed this going into this weekend...Never! The offense is healthy and played with intensity and passion. They just played loose and let it flow. I will say uva looked pathetic today.....part of that was ND's defensive pole play, but part was also just uva sucking it up.

Either way, ND is a lock to get into the tourney. Beat army next Saturday and they host a first round game. Let's hope this team is hitting their stride at the right time!!!!

Fire Corrigan!!!!

Wow...great job...the guy can coach. Glad everyone is healthy again.

Ahhh...there is no way this group can win it all..

Fire Corrigan!!!! (I’m just getting a head start)

I'll say this....This weekend was huge for the Irish lacrosse team, but the two teams they played did a whole lot to help the Irish win...

IMO, duke really did not come to play. I think their coaches were even experimenting on defense throughout the game. For example they were putting a long pole on Byrne...who has been no threat at all to score.

uva was just pathetic...unforced turnover after unforced turnover. I think Corrigan let the offense loose a little, but they had a lot of mental lapses too with their decision making from shot selection to letting the game turn into a track meet late in the third as they already had a big lead. Don't get me wrong, I am super stoked that they are were they are but I still have my reservations about Corrigan and wouldn't be surprised at all if this team turned around and lost to army this weekend.

Well, in dominating fashion Notre Dame continued their hot steak and dismantled Army 17-5. This team truly seems to be hitting their stride at the right time and in two weeks time has gone from that team that people hope they are matched up against to the team that nobody wants to face.

Positives:

Offense continues to roll. Good spacing, good ball movement, and draining their shots. This team is playing with confidence, and it truly shows.

Faceoffs: Travisano dominated getting 21-27. Literally set the tone for the day with an amazing day!

Gleason: 4 goals and 2 assists...Really looks like he his fully healthy!

Brendan Collins: 2 Goals....This kid is a player. Very swift/quick and can go lefty or righty....He really could be a difference maker in the tourney!

Sexton: The guy is a beast and comes to play every week!

Negatives:

opponents losing....ND actually started the week #2 in RPI. They are now #6. This could impact their seeding a little. Selection show is tonight at 9:00. ND should be a lock to host a game in round 1. Will be interesting to see who they are matched up with.

Well the field is set.....Notre Dame ended up with a 7 seed....Surprised me a little, as I thought the worst they would do is a 6, and maybe push for a 5......Committee basically said there is no eye test and they don't care how you end the year.....

They are matched up with Denver...ugh....

Personally, I don't like the draw...Denver has the #1 overall draft pick, and most dominant player in the game in Baptiste. He literally has won the most face-offs in the history of the game. If there's one player that can dictate the game it's him...and he/Denver embarrassed ND last year in the playoffs. Notre Dame is definitely playing better than Denver right now....ND is hitting their stride and Denver is struggling.....their goalie is not playing well, they are having trouble scoring, and they lost their best defensive player, who was the #6 pick in the draft, due to academic reasons...

other things I don't like:

ND already beat them this year....hard to beat the same team twice....

Denver's coach has won 7 titles...the most out of any NCAA coach...

Baptiste...Trav played well against him earlier in the year, so he'll be motivated...

ND really should win this game, as they are the better team right now, but it won't be easy.

It never is against Denver, but ND beat them early in the year. Hopefully, a repeat performance in the tourney.

Several issues with this game:

1. Baptiste. ND needs to get 35% of the faceoffs. Obviously very tall task. ND rides hard though so this can be done.

2. Shut down Ethan Walker. I think he had 5 goals in the first game. He needs held to 3 or less. I would expect Sexton to hover him.

3. Don't be overly aggressive on D. Denver moves the ball excepionally well. ND is one of the best in sliding and recovering, but you can always work the ball faster than you can work the feet.

4. Coaching. Will be interesting to see what Corrigan comes up with, as ND truly got embarrassed last year by Denver. ND can't live in the box, and they need to make the most of their possessions. They need to play loose...yet disciplined ball. I would continue to let them play on offense and be as aggressive as they have been...even though it might be hard, as Denver will most likely control possession.

And there goes the season. ND loses to Denver....

To me, there were 3 big things that lead to this loss:

1. Baptiste. Denver dominated possession in the second half.

2. Goalie play. Plain and simple, Denve's goalie was 1000% better.

3. Coaching. ND didn't come to play in the first quarter. They were unfocused and played a methodical offense that got them out of rhythm. Denver also ran a slow paced offense and the refs never put the clock on. I thought ND needed to force their hand more and play out.

This game totally showed what is wrong with college lacrosse....that the refs make a judgement call on when to put the shot clock on. Denver would get the ball, hold on to it forever, take some shots, and then hold on to the ball forever again. The fact that there is no shot clock in college lacrosse is an absolute joke and must for enforced for this game to be more exciting and progress the way it should! It's just stupid what Denver was allowed to do with a dominant faceoff guy today.

That really was an unfortunate first round draw for the Irish......

Denver.....who ended up unseeded, is actually favored over the #2 seed Albany this weekend....If they beat Albany, they will most likely be favored in their next game too. Win that one, and they are in the championship game....
