Thunder Up in Oklahoma

Recommended Posts

I just moved in to OKC a week ago and man this town is crazy for the Thunder. I've never seen anything like it (although I only have the Colts run of playoff appearances to compare to). I swear I can't go 5 minutes without hearing or seeing something about the Thunder.

Yeah, it's pretty nuts. Lots of people not too happy with the refs, but the Heat are really plaing well.

You'll have to join us for the football games here in Edmond. We have a great group!

Will do for sure. I saw a "Play Like a Champion" sign near Bricktown the other day on my lunch break, but haven't met any Irish fans fans yet. It'll be good to get away from the Sooner and Cowboy fans on Saturdays.

I'm a Heat fan. Maybe the only one here, since there seems to be an anti-Heat sentiment on this board.

As for the calls, even as a Heat fan I'll admit that some have been questionable. But every series has questionable calls. Honestly, I was disappointed with the refs in the Finals last year, but, what can I say, I'm a biased fan. Looking back on that series, I can't say that we lost because of the refs. We lost because we didn't play well enough. Likewise, Thunder fans can complain about the refs all they want, but at the end of the day, their team must play better.

Up 3-1 now. I think Lebron will finally break through and get his first ring, but anything can happen. Go Heat! One win away!

Yeah the NBA can't trust Lebron to get the job done so they are giving him help. Figure it will help the league or something with sales or marketing. And they want to save their biggest star. They just can't afford to have Lebron lose. Especially to the Thunder.

The Heat are too good to need any help. The fans here are up in arms over the numerous calls. The teams are so close it doesn't take a lot to sway the outcome. It's all but over after this last game. Reminds me of when Bobby got his national title at the expense of Notre Dame.

Welcome aboard Dan. I'm sure we can agree on some other topics.

Fans remember the questionable calls that went against their team, and conveniently forget the ones that went their way. OKC has gotten a few bad calls in their favor this series too. But Miami fans haven't complained about those because our team is winning. Only the fans of the losing team complain.

OKC fans should complain about the fact that their team allowed themselves into a sixteen point hole to start a game. They should complain about the fact that they couldn't preserve a 17 point lead for longer than three minutes.

I agree that squandering the big lead and getting off to the slow starts rests with the Thunder, but the calls have been decidedly in favor of Miami and even the announcers have pointed out several of them. In game two Durant was fouled to prevent the game from going into overtime. Bogus goaltending call and several calls and non calls on charging and blocking calls. Just sayin. I've seen this for many years in the NBA.

You're gonna have to take a backseat to the Heat for a couple more years.

Not so sure about that. This team gets better each year and that youth is going to keep us around for a long time. We could use a good 3 point guy added to the mix in the off season. Westbrook and Durant are going to just keep getting better. Only 23 years old.

    • The players are getting paid because there is a market that wants to see success on the field.  Because that market watches, advertisers pay a lot of money to be seen while that market watches.  In return, that advertising money comes back to the school in the form of millions of dollars in various ways.  Paying for better players means even more value for advertisers and more money for Notre Dame to build buildings or fund programs. The average student who goes to Notre Dame doesn’t generate millions of dollars for the school.  If they decide not to go there, someone else will fill the spot so they can have access to the excellent education funded by the football program and its players.  I don’t see why the university would pay students to come (except for the absolute brightest) when supply and demand is in Notre Dame’s favor in a big way.  The alums are part of the market that wants results on the field so their money goes towards those results which in turn increases value for Notre Dame, too.  Paying kids to come doesn’t have much benefit to those alums either… I get what’s being said about working hard to pay for your kid to go to college, but there are just too many folks in the same boat while a big source of revenue for schools is football…the value of the school increases if football thrives.  It’s simple business, unfortunately, and ordinary students are the consumer.  Nobody pays consumers if they want to stay in business.
    • OK, fine, I'm getting excited.   We've been winning a lot of these. My take:  Golden commit forces Zackery hand?  Takes the last ND DB spot? It's nothing but expeditious!  Was always the answer.  No other reason to move up his commitment.   I expect he will commit to his dream school for a shot at the Natty!  The synergy is real here.  It's the staff, too, but it's bigger.  Like minded kids.  And they're all conspiring to come together for the title shot, and this staff has them convinced it's in South Bend!
    • Slight nit, take the government out of guaranteed student loans.  Single handedly has been the biggest cause of soaring tuition and crushing debt for borrowers. Otherwise I'm in between as far as NIL.  It's chaos currently and we are still in Flux with the changes that have happened and stuff that's still to come.  We are far from settled in this shifting landscape of college athletics.
