Blowout. The Irish (not "Lady Irish") hammered yet another ranked team and were ahead by 35 at one point...

right, just wanted to differentiate since we have a boys team and nobody but about three of us really care about either of them.............

Was never a basketball fan until sligo go me into the team. I have been lucky enough to see a game in South Bend too. I enjoy watching the men's team. Cooley gets me nuts at times but has been on as of late. As far as the ladies I know they are a talented team but it just doesn't grab me...but I keep checking back.

The Lady Irish are simply dominant. Excellence like this only comes around once, maybe twice, in a lifetime at a particular school in a particular sport. It's not that they can't be beat -- they will have to play their best in the tournament when they face Baylor, Connecticut, Stanford, or Duke. Their attitude is such, however, that we know they can, and probably will, beat those teams.

It's this attitude that is truly a pleasure to behold. It's extremely potent team chemistry mixed with an obvious love of the game and held together with an intense yet enduring competitiveness. On top of that, they somehow demonstrate remarkable sportsmanship and really look to be having fun. They have all the traits of champions.

The only concern I have is that they might be peaking too early with more than a month until the tourney. They look so good right now: simply blowing away all comers and especially teams that are in the top twenty. There is also the possibility that they have not peaked yet, and this is just part of their progression to a team that not only wins the tourney, but destroys the competition in doing so.

Whatever is happening here is really fun to watch and brings great honor and distinction to the Notre Dame sports program.

the girls pounded syracuse tonight............74-55............

Not a good performance nonetheless.

Something like 2 of 16 from 3-point range. 2 shot clock violations. Some poor shot selection. Syracuse played ND even in the second half.

I think Notre Dame was focused on rebounding, which they did very well, outrebounding the #2 rebounding team in the country. Coach McGraw drew attention to that aspect before the game.

Notre Dame will have to take care of business with WVA, Providence, and USF. They will be tested by Louisville and Connecticut on the road, then the Big East tournament.

We're coming down to it now.

Devereaux didn't show at all offensively. Great rebounding effort but completely nullified by her season-low 2 points. Not to mention that she fouled out again in crunch time... This was Dave Mathews' "Crash" summed up in sports... Gotta pick up their chins and get back to the gameplan, with a visit to UConn looming.

**and we can't have all of our bigs fouling out at the same time. that shows a lack of discipline. most of those fouls were open court fouls, too.

Called several rediculous fouls on Achonwa.

Officiating sucked all around. Lets beat the snot out of each other down low but call tacky touch fouls everywhere else. This game was lost at the free throw line today. They better get better or there or it will be their Achilles heel.

If the Irish are going to win it all, they have to pick up their play in the post.

"They coulda won them ahhh-ah-ah-all, rolling in the po-wo-oh-ost. They have the guards but gotta play better, in the post, gotta play it or get beat."

    • The players are getting paid because there is a market that wants to see success on the field.  Because that market watches, advertisers pay a lot of money to be seen while that market watches.  In return, that advertising money comes back to the school in the form of millions of dollars in various ways.  Paying for better players means even more value for advertisers and more money for Notre Dame to build buildings or fund programs. The average student who goes to Notre Dame doesn’t generate millions of dollars for the school.  If they decide not to go there, someone else will fill the spot so they can have access to the excellent education funded by the football program and its players.  I don’t see why the university would pay students to come (except for the absolute brightest) when supply and demand is in Notre Dame’s favor in a big way.  The alums are part of the market that wants results on the field so their money goes towards those results which in turn increases value for Notre Dame, too.  Paying kids to come doesn’t have much benefit to those alums either… I get what’s being said about working hard to pay for your kid to go to college, but there are just too many folks in the same boat while a big source of revenue for schools is football…the value of the school increases if football thrives.  It’s simple business, unfortunately, and ordinary students are the consumer.  Nobody pays consumers if they want to stay in business.
    • OK, fine, I'm getting excited.   We've been winning a lot of these. My take:  Golden commit forces Zackery hand?  Takes the last ND DB spot? It's nothing but expeditious!  Was always the answer.  No other reason to move up his commitment.   I expect he will commit to his dream school for a shot at the Natty!  The synergy is real here.  It's the staff, too, but it's bigger.  Like minded kids.  And they're all conspiring to come together for the title shot, and this staff has them convinced it's in South Bend!
    • Slight nit, take the government out of guaranteed student loans.  Single handedly has been the biggest cause of soaring tuition and crushing debt for borrowers. Otherwise I'm in between as far as NIL.  It's chaos currently and we are still in Flux with the changes that have happened and stuff that's still to come.  We are far from settled in this shifting landscape of college athletics.
