Socialism is Evil

Recommended Posts

And I'm a conservative and don't mind the label. I'm not very fond of Bush either but I don't think he was as bad as some have said. If we're to go by labels we're at opposite ends of the spectrum but we found common ground by being reasonable.

So where does this leave us a nation? We'll be alright soon enough. People will soon realize that our politicians don't care about the people that make America work. They care more about having power and eventually democracy will work by voting most of them out.

One more thing we agree on. I hate professional politicians. You want to earn a living, do something productive instead of voting for your own pay raises.

Hell yes, it really is sickening to me...... You can't change the way stuff works with the same people who broke the damn thing... Obama will be gone in 2012, and many of the Dems will be gone with him and before him so that is taken care of but the rest of the clowns will still be there.:llama::llama:

Ok I really don't want to take time to write it I am just going to use my paper I used for Political Science

Good defense, and I appreciate it. A few points though. The tax system in America is not regressive, it is progressive. I forget the exact figures, but the top 5% of wage earners pay somewhere around 80% of taxes, the top 2% somewhere around 50% and the bottom 50% pay nothing in income taxes. Therefore the majority of tax receipts in this country are paid by the more affluent. I am very tired of the tax system rewarding failure and punishing success. Yes I am in a higher tax bracket, but I pay more in taxes than 50% of thecountry earn in a year. That is not fair. Because of that high tax I have to struggle at times to meet my obligations just like anyone else. I agree that the Vancouver surgeries were deferred, but that does not help those who have to wait longer for neuro and vascular surgery. That does not happen here

I agree that insurance companies make way too much profit. Banning denial of coverage based on pre-existing conditions and forcing them to compete for customers by allowing purchase of health insurance across state lines would help that situation. Cap out of pocket expenses so insurance has to pay more. Ban dropping a person due to high claims, expand MSA's, increase use of EMR. Tort reform must be a factor in this debate however, not to reduce actual damages but the punitive damages. Many docs have to pay 200k in malpractice insurance each year, so to cover themselves order duplicative and unneccessary tests (defensive medicine). That is a huge cost, much more than tort claims. I do not advocate not allowing an injured party to recoup actual damages, but the punitive portion is often much more. What I am saying is there has to be give and take on both sides. Neither party has the whole answer, but they do not work together, due to partisanship, to find the right answer.

Some say illegals are not part of the 47 mil. Then why was every attempt to put in legislation, language that would prevent illegals from getting coverage denied by the majority? 5 times they denied it. The supreme court has ruled in the past that illegals are entitled to all civil rights of citizens. A case will be brought, if this is passed, suing because of denial of coverage of illegals, and based on precedent, the SCOTUS will force coverage of illegals. A backdoor approach. Same with coverage of abortion, which the majority also refused to specifically deny in legislation.

Our system is not broken, it has problems, mainly due to high cost, but lets address those problems, tweak the system, not destroy it and socialize it. This is change we cannot afford. We need to look at ways to limit frivolous lawsuits, limit insurance company profits, make coverage more equitable. We cannot force young people to buy insurance if they do not want it. If they have to use the medical system, they will get a bill they will have to pay. Their problem, due to poor choice.

We are not too far off in our beliefs.

Profit

What is profit?

When a man enters any productive endeavor he starts with a given sum of capital (unspent wealth). If after a period of time he is left with more than he started, he has earned a profit. If he is left with less then he started, he has incurred a loss.

Isn't the profit motive evil?

No. The profit motive is the pursuit of making a profit from one's production. The opposite is the loss motive -- to pursue a loss. Now tell me, which is evil? Obviously not the first, and only the latter. The pursuit of profit is the moral right to pursue ones happiness applied to the ones economic endeavors.

How is a profit made?

Profit is not made by conning others, but by creating something of value that did not exist before. As wealth is required to support one's life, the increase in wealth through production and trade -- the creation of a profit -- adds to one's life. How can the pursuit of wealth, the support of one's life, be considered evil? In reason, it cannot.

What is not profit?

Stealing wealth from others, through fraud or force, is not profit, but theft (an initiation of force). Whether that theft is called a mugging, welfare, or "voluntary" taxation [a contradiction in terms], it is still theft and is always evil. Theft, like loss, is destruction; trade, like profit, is creation. To pursue profit is to pursue creation. It is an act of virtue and not a vice.

Your profit is the symbol and reward for the value of your creation, as judged by the mind's of others who have freely-given given their wealth to you in exchange for it. Do not let the leftist intellectuals who infect our universities persuade you from thinking otherwise. In truth, it is those altruists who condemn the profit motive, who are guilty of evil.

"The 'profit motive,' speaking broadly, means a man's incentive to work in order to gain something for himself — in economic terms, to make money. By Objectivist standards, such a motive, being thoroughly just, is profoundly moral. Socialists used to speak of 'production for use' as against 'production for profit.' What they meant and wanted was: 'production by one man for the unearned use of another'." Ayn Rand

1. What Is the Basic Issue in the World Today?

The basic issue in the world today is between two principles: Individualism and Collectivism.

Individualism holds that man has inalienable rights which cannot be taken away from him by any other man, nor by any number, group or collective of other men. Therefore, each man exists by his own right and for his own sake, not for the sake of the group.

Collectivism holds that man has no rights; that his work, his body and his personality belong to the group; that the group can do with him as it pleases, in any manner it pleases, for the sake of whatever it decides to be its own welfare. Therefore, each man exists only by the permission of the group and for the sake of the group.

These two principles are the roots of two opposite social systems. The basic issue of the world today is between these two systems.
