  1. Comparing his film to Holyfield's - he looks to have better top end speed - AND he blocks!! How many # 1 FL RB types do that in High School? Perhaps the competition that he had for touches at IMG helped him develop other aspects of his game more fully. I like this commit - welcome Tony.
  2. Leon Hart. Never lost at ND, Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Trophy, 3 NCs, ist draft pick, College HOF, 3 NFL Championships, - started Tight End U - also played defense.
  3. Was he not also an Early Enrollment - adding that to the summer school courses, and negating the semester he missed?
  4. I agree, but (as posted elsewhere) think that there should be a change next week for the following reason(s): CBK has taken the more calm approach with EG this season, but since he came back from Whitfield’s Quarterback Academy, he does not seem to be listening. The attention level and body language on the sideline after a turnover is telling. He seems to be disregarding the coaching and looking away most of the time. Small point, perhaps, but indicative of a stubbornness and a belief in his own (considerable) skill set. While this is necessary for the position, to a point, it has developed into a glaring unwillingness to change that has too high a price. Also there can’t be 2 sets of rules for performance - that destroys a team. If Hanratty, Bryant and other talented players (ok perhaps not as talented as EG) can ride the pine, so can he. That is why you recruit a 2-3 deep. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results. For the good of the team, the program, and this young man - for 2014 and 2015 they need to get E G's attention, and talking to him, reasoning with him has not worked. Do you think Lou, Ara, or Frank would have put up with the lack of attention? It is the perfect time (Northwestern - playoff shot gone) to let Zaire start. Different skill set, not as explosive a passing potential, but better ability to run the read option. Better a Tony Rice than a jimmy clausen. If nothing changes, nothing changes.
  5. Agree -and I am sure that CBK and coach Cooks are 'discussing' this with him - does anyone see a bit of Taylor Mays in him? I always felt that Mays (AA though he was) spent too much time, especially in his senior year, trying to add to his highlight film as opposed to executing his assignment.
  6. and many, many happy more birthdays. You are more ND than about 90% of my (1968 ) class!
  7. Joe Schad is on http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/87/notre-dame-fighting-irish
  8. Okie - Illegitimi non carborundum - you are damn near indispensable on this board - please keep up the good work.
  9. AMEN! Well said - I have felt way this quite often. Thank you, Frank O'Malley would give you an 'A'
  10. You are right - as with EG focus and consistent application are needed and this may be the wake up call that helps delivers them. I can remember that it did just that for a 1966 ND All American halfback. On the plus side - as has been pointed out - this will give EG significantly more reps with the other WRs (and TEs) with whom he is not currently familiar - and that is a good thing.
  11. Good call - ty looks good in the colors...
  12. As the Beach Boys would say, "Wouldn't it be nice?"
  13. Most were outstanding individuals - but not all saints - Hornung - NFL gambling suspension, Billy Cannon counterfeiting served 2½ years of a five-year sentence - since significantly turned his life around, Larry Kelley (less than the others, but) sold his Heisman Trophy at an auction in December 1999 to the owner of The Stadium Museum, Restaurant & Bar in Garrison, New York and on June 27, 2000, Kelley died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The one that I choose to remember is Nile Kinnick.
  14. Excellent - the best & most cogent summary / conclusion - 'well played, sir'
  15. As to "Scared & Timid"-- I agree with Hawaii, and add 2 points - 1) he showed a lot of power running in the last spring game - that we did not see in 2012 - 2) seemed a bit indecisive / less aggressive in 2012 versus 2011 - it occurred to me, during the season, that he COULD have had a nagging injury that led to 1 & 2... Just a feeling, but a rested, 100% George will reverse those points and be the Nick Eddy of 2013.
