Welp.

(EDIT: Someone else beat me to it. Feel free to close, mods.)

ND needs to retain Lea as the DC imo.

Wouldnt shock me if early signees try to get out of their commitments and we dont get any of our current targets to sign on the defensive side of the ball. Just too close to signing day.

Got to consider promoting Coach Lea dont we?

He's never been a coordinator so that kind of scares me, but in a way makes a lot of sense.

this hurts bad.

What a kick to the balls.

I hope he wanted to leave and this wasn’t ND being cheap.

But I’m sure it was ND being cheap.

$400 million stadium. 1/2 price coaches.

ND may need to look at the way they do things, other than heistand all of NDs other big time assistance never stick around to long.

I'd be pissed if I was a signed defensive commit. Hopefully, no one tries to leave.

a great reason for future recruits not to sign early.

They were paying him over 1mm. ND wasn't being cheap, however, if they did get outbid, I'm going to be pissed. A&M doesn't have deeper pockets than ND.

This is a kick to the solar plexus but thank God for the early signing period as they are signed, sealed and delivered. This is not like the HC bolting.

"At first glance, yeah, I think you're always on guard [about losing a coach], especially the defensive coordinator position," Kelly told Irish Illustrated on December 26. "Mike came in, did a really good job. His name was out there, but he's gonna be here at Notre Dame."

Once again, Brian Kelley lies. He said Elko was going no where, but lo and behold, he’s leaving. Hopefully they will keep Lea and make him DC. If not, maybe Elston?

I would venture to say that is the way Kelly must go for continuity. Lea is skilled in Elko's system and it works. I said before on this board that ND need to make Elko associate head coach to up his salary. He's the guy I was touting in case Kellyt left.

What the freakn hell!!!

Confirmed by Kelly

I think it's gotta be Lea too. Don't mess with the system in place.

What the hell?!?!?

Is it possible Elko got sick and tired of the South Bend winter this year and said “f” it, I’m out?
