Explosion in Texas

Recommended Posts

Relax much?? It was a joke.

When will the US wake up and do something about the true root cause, which is mental health, instead of trying to regulate all the tools and infringe on American's rights?

The joke wasn't factual, or even in good taste.

How do you suppose we deal with the issue of mental health? The right doesn't want to expand healthcare or the mental health system and they will fight tooth and nail to put down funding for any measure. And that's even assuming a crazy person even knows they are crazy.

It wasn't in bad taste any more than politicians trying to violate 2nd amendment rights.

So the solution is blame the other side (because they are actually trying to control spending and balance the budget) and take away law abiding citizens' constitutional rights?? WOW!!

Did anyone tell you it is Friday?

I'm pointing out that the Right's current narrative is that it's the crazy people who are to blame and we should try to fix that. But at the same time they actively fight actually doing anything about it.

It's a red-herring misdirection tactic. They just want people to stop talking about gun control.

Less than two hours left till the weekend...

Oh and didn't you get the memo? Why do we need to balance the budget when we can just print more money! ;)

Maybe because gun control isn't a serious problem? Sorry but that's the real red-herring. There is nothing else that matter more than the economy.

You're right, we could lock up all the known loony's and it wouldn't solve shootings. We could take away peoples right to own guns, it wouldn't solve shootings.(See Chicago, or not, ignore Chicago, it doesn't fit your narrative)

You fix the economy, you fix everything else.

14 dead and more than 200 injured at this point, very sad. My prayers to that poor little town.

A small bright spot:

Doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital did the only thing they could Wednesday night after they learned of the tragedy in West by sharing a long distance meal with local surgeons and emergency room workers.

As chaos ruled the emergency room at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center after the horrific explosion in West Wednesday night, a gift arrived in the form of pizza that was sent from afar.

Doctors at the Boston hospital learned of the explosion in West and just hours after they had dealt with injury from an explosion, one of them called a Waco pizza delivery service and ordered $100 worth of pizzas sent to Hillcrest.

In a message sent Thursday by one of the Hillcrest doctors, he said: "A physician from Massachusetts General Hospital called to place an order for pizza for the surgeons in the ER at Hillcrest.

"How he got our number, we'll never know," the message said.

"He included a note of encouragement … from one doc to another, 'Thanks for all your hard work,'" the message said.

"Thanks to all the doctors and nurses in Boston that day, and in Waco and Temple and Fort Worth and Dallas that night," the message said.

Fit my narrative? Perhaps if my narrative were a straw-man. City wide restrictions surrounded by rural areas filled with no restrictions is a super compelling argument if you don't own a globe.

saying a bunch of gangbanger are buying these weapons from farmers? You need to get a clue pal... These guns are coming from others in the inner circle. Do better. The right is not telling mentally ill people to pound snad either, if that's the truth show me some proof.

It is a little ironic. One of the left's big complaints about Reagan was how he cut programs that helped the mentally ill. The increase in our homeless population was often attributed to that. Back then the right just thought they were slackers being coddled.

Personally, I think the entire country could become mental health workers and it wouldn't solve the problem of easy access to guns and other weapons. The argument that the problem is not a society that owns 1/3rd of the guns on earth but instead is merely a product of an undiagnosed mental illness or video games is just diversion. If the right really believes that, then let a background check come to vote like 90% of the country would like.

Buying from farmers? Why do you need to create this completely silly strawman? Guns flow into the city from outside where there is more availability and easier access to buy. Selling guns is profitable and worth the risk of smuggling them into the city. The problem is that while Chicago has strict laws, they rank near the bottom in gun convictions. That is an enforcement issue.

Reagan de-institutionalized the mental healthcare system in the 80's. Since then, the right has fought every attempt to expand coverage. It didn't even get to the floor under Clinton, and under Bush, the right voted down a bill that would require insurers to cover mental health. They have fought the affordable healthcare act under Obama, which expands access to mental healthcare exponentially.
