Men's Basketball...

...is getting pretty hard to watch anymore. We all know what the problems are, no need to go through it again. But there needs to be a change in philosophy, coaching, and the types of recruits we go after. I think with a new coach, the other two aspects would probably change and after watching today's loss to lowly Rutgers with their 1-4 Big East record, I think change is exactly what Notre Dame needs.

We shouldn't hear our head coach talking about being content with being "in the discussion" for middle of the pack honors. Winners are never satisfied and Brey seems to be okay with barely being a bubble team.

**and by bubble team I mean for the NIT

It's weird how ND's regresses the more they play. Each game has gotten exponentially worse than the previous. I won't even begin to assess ND's pitfalls, there are just too many--but there has to be a change at the top.

Brey steadfastly refuses to play more than 7. This must mean the recruits on the end of the bench he has no faith in. you can't play a 7 man rotation in the BE and survive, he should know that now

He steadfastly plays man to man and he does not have an atheltic enough team to play man to man in the BE

Losing to Rutgers sucks big time they were 0 for freakin 9 in the league and lost their last 2 games by 20 and 25 and every paper in Jersey wanted the coach's head

How bout Brey's head? It's time

PS Ever notice has players regress under Brey?

Chris Thomas for one now Harangody for another

I disagree with the man-to-man. Brey's known for running a soft zone. He implemented the man-to-man last week due to Rutgers making their 3 pointers/outside shots.

The zone is what kills us IMO. Nobody accountable for a man leads to many offensive rebounds for the other team. And if you've watched ND over the last decade you'd know that among other things, ND teams have been awful rebounders. Not having a specified man to put your ass on definitely adds to the number of possessions in which we scratch our heads wondering how the other team could score 7 points in one possession.

This tends to hurt ND pretty bad as our guys are usually not as athletic as the teams we play against making any type of fundamental mistake, that much more glaring.

And about player regression. CT hurt his knee and was never the same, not on Brey. Harangody has zero help this year in big games, not on Brey. Blame the Harangody thing on losing K-Mac, Ayers and over-all team chemistry, besides being double-teamed most games...

**I will note that Brey seems to give too much rope to his stars leading to crazy shot selection and a predictable offense

    • The players are getting paid because there is a market that wants to see success on the field.  Because that market watches, advertisers pay a lot of money to be seen while that market watches.  In return, that advertising money comes back to the school in the form of millions of dollars in various ways.  Paying for better players means even more value for advertisers and more money for Notre Dame to build buildings or fund programs. The average student who goes to Notre Dame doesn’t generate millions of dollars for the school.  If they decide not to go there, someone else will fill the spot so they can have access to the excellent education funded by the football program and its players.  I don’t see why the university would pay students to come (except for the absolute brightest) when supply and demand is in Notre Dame’s favor in a big way.  The alums are part of the market that wants results on the field so their money goes towards those results which in turn increases value for Notre Dame, too.  Paying kids to come doesn’t have much benefit to those alums either… I get what’s being said about working hard to pay for your kid to go to college, but there are just too many folks in the same boat while a big source of revenue for schools is football…the value of the school increases if football thrives.  It’s simple business, unfortunately, and ordinary students are the consumer.  Nobody pays consumers if they want to stay in business.
    • OK, fine, I'm getting excited.   We've been winning a lot of these. My take:  Golden commit forces Zackery hand?  Takes the last ND DB spot? It's nothing but expeditious!  Was always the answer.  No other reason to move up his commitment.   I expect he will commit to his dream school for a shot at the Natty!  The synergy is real here.  It's the staff, too, but it's bigger.  Like minded kids.  And they're all conspiring to come together for the title shot, and this staff has them convinced it's in South Bend!
    • Slight nit, take the government out of guaranteed student loans.  Single handedly has been the biggest cause of soaring tuition and crushing debt for borrowers. Otherwise I'm in between as far as NIL.  It's chaos currently and we are still in Flux with the changes that have happened and stuff that's still to come.  We are far from settled in this shifting landscape of college athletics.
