  1. From last I can remember Bowers was 2 inches shorter and 30-35 lbs lighter than Mayer. For that alone I would take Mayer. Bowers to me is a H-back that is going to have to be specialized. He won’t have the speed advantage that he’s seen on lb’s I. The NFL. He also won’t have the strength advantage being a smaller tight end. Honestly, I’ll be surprised if he stays in the NFL for longer than 5 years. But hey, what the hell do I know. As Synpotico said, schemes matter. As for the question asked, I’d say where ever the Patriots pick in the first round.
  2. People would have to be nuts to think Hartman isn’t starting. He’s like a 6th year starter/transfer. Plus he’s like 24. He’s seen a lot of football. I only saw the highlights but like most, I would love to see in the future that after the draft, qbs switch teams during half and take a few series with that group. Seemed like Buchner could have benefitted with having Alt on the left side. Anywho, Hartman is the starter and Buchner is the clear backup. That much is clear. Those that wanted Minchey to replace Buchner earlier in the year is like saying Buchner should start over Hartman. It’s that obvious who’s better at this point. Keep Buchner happy and let’s roll with Hartman.
  3. Unless you’re like Hyatt of Tennessee who if you don’t get a jam just runs right by the safety. That would be Lewis’s bugaboo
  4. That’s why I wanted Catalong so bad. You’ve could have sold the playing time to him or anyone. They made the same mistake on qb last year. Thought they had enough and they didn’t.
  5. I don’t know. It just seems like if you aren’t eligible they don’t care what the star rating is. That’s why Kelly always mentioned shopping down a different isle. ND needs to have a little more leeway in some regards.
  6. @Big23Head any weirdness with Carr visiting A$M? Or this simply for 7 on 7?
  7. Spot on. I can’t count the numerous times ND scored 3-14 points against elite defenses. The defense was usually what kept ND in ball games.
  8. All great points. There’s plenty of ways to win championships. I like the philosophy and think it tailors more towards ND and what they can do. Wish the last coaching staff would have went this route instead of the “chunk offense.” But time will tell if Freeman and this style is still winnable.
  9. was that during Wisconsin’s run of having an amazing run game and 1,000 yard backs?
  10. Luke would absolutely be a homerun hire. It would definitely soften the blow of having a very experience o-coordinator
  11. Well, “maybe” the administration is starting to finally feel the crunch from the blowback that was felt after the Ludwig debacle. Sounded like they tried to go back and re-hire him. But, they did go back and just hire from with-in. So, I’m not too optimistic about what they are doing. I just hope Parker is better than most are giving him credit for. Can’t do shyt now.
  12. Add…if Parker doesn’t get the job. Then does he feel jolted and leaves for another program making ND now have to find another coach. I mean…
  13. This is what my friend texted me yesterday which I can kinda agree with. What I’m hearing is, the football program is the most important thing at the school, and while I understand that perspective from a non-alum fan, it isn’t and shouldn’t be the perspective of people who work for the school and are connected to it. Trying to use the football program as a loss leader (spend a bunch of money to theoretically make your program good/elite and hope that it comes back in alumni donations) is an insane way to operate an institution of higher learning. That so many schools do that is a sad commentary on the values and priorities of our society. That said, if ND wants to continue to state that they are an elite program by demanding a high NBC contract, demanding that they be looked at yearly as a top four team for the playoffs without having a conference title, charging insane tuition fees, being a Catholic University and all its money, charging crazy prices for merchandise and ticket prices, Jack Swarbrick probably being one of the top paid AD’s in America, AND now putting 2 games on shitty Peacock that makes me pay 5-10 a month to watch the game, then you better be willing to pay a damn buyout fee IF the guy is the right choice. If Ludwig isn’t, so be it. But money better not be an issue(within reason) to hiring the best coaching staff they possibly can. Or they need to just drop the football program or join the b10 get that money and then them and Northwestern can go save the world together with mediocre football programs. Make a choice or the college football world will without you.
  14. Maybe they should ask Jack who he wants.
  15. This is lol…. getting in line…as I said. Rees was Saban’s fifth choice or something like that. Doesn’t sound like guys jumping in line to me. He’ll, Saban even had to go back and recycle his old defensive coordinator because nobody wanted that shyt. As for those other coaches or coordinators I should say. Kiffin, O’Brien, Sark were reclamation projects. They were decent coaches but had serious problems. Not like Saban showed those guys anything. If anything, they showed Saban that the ground and pound isn’t the only way to win games. Yes, The NFL is more attractive now. Pay is equal at most places now both in college and in the NFL. All you have to do is wait your turn and you’ll probably get a desired job of your choosing. Who wants to get bitched at by an old man who’s on the verge of either retiring or having a heart attack on sideline and you’re out of a job in either of those situations. Rees is taking a chance imo. Good for him. As for past coordinators as you brought up. Where are Jim McElwain, Major Applewhite, Kevin Steele, Jeremy Pruitt, Doug Nussmeier, Tosh Lupoi(known cheater) at? Just because you served under Saban doesn’t mean straight head coaching experience and you’re going to be a legit coach like you are assuming. There’s more flame outs than winners in his tree of coordinators. So please stop. Rees has just as much of a chance to flame out at Bama under Saban as he did at ND. Saban doesn’t automatically equal success as much as your SEC homerism always try to suggest.
  16. Does banter in Texas(writing) mean you type with a draw…..:)
  17. Completely agree. My guess.. that's all it really is. college football is becoming to much of a money grubbing business by all parties. I don't want to constantly be involved in my favorite team and it's players and watch yearly as my team completely looks different every year. If I wanted the NFL I would watch the NFL. As for this site. Too many good posters left and nobody showed up to replace them. I've been saying it for a year, need some new blood. I came this site because Piratey said come here because it's the best. You get insight, rumors, good people, everything ND football you can get. I'm not getting that anymore. The content has become dull. Not that I'm blaming anybody. Faith does a good job of trying to keep things interesting. But, besides the 202...recruiting(which I'm starting to care less about because of NIL) I don't really look to see what people have wrote. There's no banter. There's no rumors. There's no paid site info even if it is only tidbits of what's on there. Frankly, the question is, why come here anymore? It's a fair question and maybe if the guys running it can figure that out, then maybe this place will come back hopping?
  18. I’ll say this. I hope they go with a guy who wants to run and isn’t opposed of lining up under the center. Our running back room is full and ready to roll. I’d hate for it to be wasted on spread option where the running back runs lateral instead of downhill like in the BK days. Drives me mad.
  19. Go after Garrett Riley. Make things interesting with SC.
