September 6, 20231 yr They moved up one spot more than I thought they would, but it isnt super important this early on. top 10 does have a nice ring to it.
September 6, 20231 yr I find it so annoying that Alabama, after playing one game against MTSU, jumps all the way up to #3! Ohio State played a conference and division rival in Indiana, and won by 20! And FSU curb stomped LSU, the defending SEC west champ, whom beat Alabama last year! It should be 3. Ohio State, 4. FSU, and 5. Alabama. Man, I just really hate this whole “SEC is the best conference narrative” everyone continues to push. Meanwhile, 4 out of 5 SEC teams that played actual Power 5 opponents, lost! I don’t like Ohio State, but all this does is hurt Notre Dame’s SOS, and continues to push the SEC hype train! Like, how is it that LSU only drops from 5 to 14, while Clemson goes from 9 to 25! 😡 Sorry for the rant, but that’s just how I feel. Glad to see Notre Dame make a decent jump! Go Irish!!!

Nothing you said was wrong, but it honestly doesnt hurt anything at this point. If they lose, they will fall.

Georgia and Alabama have carried the SEC for most of those years. Every now and then, Auburn gets Newton, Florida gets Tebow, and LSU gets Burrow. They rarely play out of conference power 5, Georgia hasnt played a P5 team out of the south in like 20 years, except for the ND game where they barely beat a mediocre ND that year.

September 7, 20231 yr This year, the SEC is not looking too good when it comes to out of conference power5. Their only win so far is a highly ranked Tennessee team against Virginia (who will be at the bottom of the ACC). Hardly an "even" matchup.

Once again, a weak showing for out of conference games against Power 5 opponents! Which makes you realize the “SEC” is not as strong as used to be.

And when some of the other conference besides the SEC cannibalize themselves, everyone will be like, they’re so weak. Meanwhile, when the SEC does it, they’re all like, wow, the SEC is like the baby NFL! 🙄 Just so everyone knows, a number of ESPN analysts have said that about the SEC, by calling the conference, mainly the west, the baby NFL. 😑 What a joke!
September 7, 20231 yr Author Aside from Alabama every year, Georgia most years, LSU most years, who else is all that good? Florida hasn't been relevant in almost a decade. Prior to last year, the last time Tennessee was any good Peyton Manning was their QB. Arkansas, Ole Miss, and MS St are middle of the pack, Auburn has its moments. The rest are no better than any other conference's trash schools. Ok, so they have 3 schools that are good every year. That's pretty much all they have to stand on. Everyone else has 1 or 2 to their 3. The ACC has Clemson. FSU and Miami have been a shit show for a while. No one is dominant every year except for Clemson. The PAC is mostly trash except for Oregon every year. Even USC was down for quite a few years even though they're back now. While up recently, Washington is mostly up and down, Stanford hasn't been good in forever. Utah is closer to Washington than Stanford. Again, no one is dominant every year. BIG is Ohio State and everyone else. Michigan has been good the last few seasons but its the same shit as the SEC. Weak scheduling outside of the one big game a year against OSU. The mid tier schools in the BIG aren't much worse than the mid tier schools anywhere else. And they all have trash at the bottom. Big12 is Oklahoma just about every year. Cycle in Baylor, OKST, Texas, as the other good team every few seasons. Again, rarely more than two teams that are all that good at the same time. The reason the SEC is so good is because ESPN tells us they are. Because ESPN runs college football and ESPN is partnered with the SEC Network.

SEC also figured out to schedule their way to look better than other folks. 1) By only playing 8 conference games, they add 1/2 a win and remove 1/2 loss from most SEC teams' final record compared to conferences such as Pac ?? and Big Ten who play 9 conference games. The extra non-conference game is usually a win for all SEC schools given #2 and #3 below. 2) SEC teams will often schedule TWO FCS schools. Teams are penalized in the polls for losses more than weak wins. 10-2 with two FCS wins will usually be ranked ahead of 9-3 with no FCS opponents. 3) They play more games vs. the Sun Belt conference than any of the other P5 conferences. Sun Belt is probably the weakest of the Group of Five conferences. 4) The BCS days rewarded the SEC formula since only the top 2 teams played in the NCG and losses were a big part of the ranking algorithm. 5) Top teams in the SEC are probably better relative to other conferences than during the BCS era. Success then created the SEC myth and translated to improved recruiting now.
