Notre Dame beat Michigan State in the Big Ten Quarterfinals over the weekend. Now they face Minnesota in the Semi-Finals on Saturday at Notre Dame- it is a single elimination game. ND was 1-3 against Minnesota this season (including 0-2 at home).

ND beat Minnesota on Saturday. Will host Penn State for the Big Ten Championship Game this Saturday - March 23.

Not sure many know how the NCAA Hockey Tournament works, but it basically works like the NCAA Basketball Tournament, only it starts at the Sweet Sixteen. There are 16 teams left. There are four regions that host the first two rounds, with four teams in each region. Teams ranked nationally #1 - #4 are the #1 seeds for each region. The teams that win their first and second round games (which take place this weekend) go on to the Frozen Four. The Frozen Four is in Buffalo this year, with the Semifinals on April 11 and the Finals on April 13.

 

ND is the #3 seed in the Northeast Region. The Irish play #2 seed Clarkson on Friday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m. in New Hampshire (on ESPNU). ND will play the winner of #1 seed UMass/#4 seed Harvard the following day at 6:30 p.m. (also on ESPNU).

Good stuff by the way. I wasn’t sure exactly how it worked, thanks. Also, ND has turned out a few pros I’ve noticed lately. Good to see a lot of ND’s programs are in Good shape.

UMass is actually the #1 seed in this region. They have probably the best player in college hockey right now, Cale Makar. Should be a great game.

Thanks. I read the NCAA bracket incorrectly. UMass is the #4 seed of the 16 team tournament, not of the 4 team bracket.
