Was wondering if I could get some feedback for a business idea I had....

 

If any of you have ever heard of Hangover Heaven in Vegas, it's a mobile bus with nurses who will either give IVs in the bus or even make house calls for a slightly higher price.

 

My idea is to enlist former special operations service guys who are specialists in IV administration (almost all are) to perform a similar service in other cities. There are tons of them in metro areas.

 

Could perform the services in full uniform/gear and hand out a box of Bang Snaps with a lollipop at the end.

 

I know Raleigh would die to have a mobile IV service...

 

Ideas or feedback?

Well I would say it works in Vegas because people have a lot of money to blow and want to keep drinking. My thoughts are that it may not work well in other areas because it is expensive. That said in other cities I have seen it they have a sports market as well, if you can link in with local sports teams/professionals you may thrive on that and do the hangover stuff as added revenue. Maybe Charlotte would be a better option to try it out.

Basically it looks like the current businesses outside of Vegas and doing it for traditional health needs and a few advertise it for hangovers as well. I think outside of Vegas you may need a full medical team.

I like the idea and I like the military theme which could lead to some creative advertising and branding opportunities.

 

Concerns:

 

1. Cost of liability insurance

2. Need more info on locations.

 

a. Obviously the local laws have to allow for an operation like this. I'm sure some type of licensing will be required. This may rule out some metro areas.

 

b. Target market is young professionals with money to burn, affluent college kids with parents' money to burn, and just regular rich businesspeople that go out on weekday nights and need to recover in time for the morning board meeting. A location that could target all three would be ideal.

Yeah, well a lot of people are, but pretty sure you are going to need a MD who's willing to accept the responsibility. And he/she probably going to want at least 50 percent stake.

This could be true. Hangover Heaven's website (the big one in Vegas), indicates that patients will be seen by a doctor, PA, or NP prior to treatment. It also seems like the owners are doctors.

So this is not for your run of the mill weekend drunk.

 

Seems like it would be more suitable for a touristy destinations where there are plenty of watering holes in the same area. You can't really drive north of town to a sports bar then go south of town to a country and western bar etc. So it's about location.

Thanks for the input fellas. Upon further market evaluation, I think my best target would be a heavily watered down version that would use college kids as a primary demographic.

 

The current mobile IV services offer all kinds of nonsense "additions" to their cocktails that are geared toward what you want. Like one package specifically for jet lag. Lol.

 

I should offer a simple plain saline bag option for a price point affordable to college kids and young professionals

Chicago has a few IV clinics and I know a few of my buddies have tried it. Basically, their review is $4 pedialyte is about equal to a $150 IV experience. But theres plenty of people who pay for the IV clinic so it could be worth it.

While it kind of runs against my individual beliefs I always thought that an illicit tour guide service would work well in Vegas, or other places for that matter. It doesn't really have to be taking people to local hookers, drug dealers, etc... but rather just babysitting people while they go out and have their Fear and Loathing type trips. I can tell you from experience that running around with a head full of acid is not for the feint of heart and having someone to make sure you don't end up butt naked in the fountain at the Bellagio is something worth paying a couple of hundred bucks for for an evening.

 

Same goes for heavy drinking, just making sure you don't end up at 2 AM with a drug dealer smoking crack in your car because you got buzzed and decided you wanted some MDMA... priceless.

 

It might not be an every day service, but it is like getting a cabana by the pool, when you are going to go big you spend a little more.

I don't know about this idea...I could see it working on game day on college campuses during the fall or at the beach during spring break, but outside of that I think the overhead would kill any profit. I just don't see a demand in your normal weekend for such a service. It works in Vegas because it's Vegas. People are always up all hours of the night drinking, gambling, etc. Sure, it happens in other cities as well...but not to the scale that it happens in Vegas. Just my .02

Speaking of liability imagine the first time a drunken frat boy gives his special forces helper a little wrap on the beak because he is too drunk to make good choices.

Right but pedialyte is like 50% as effective at 3% of the cost.

 

I love the idea, especially since I'm sure there are numerous tax benefits and PR goodwill from hiring veterans, just don't love it for the price locally. If I could get a $20-$50 IV, I'd probably do it semi regularly.
