2015/16 MLB Free Agency

Recommended Posts

Seems to have been a bit of a slow start to the free agency frenzy this year, but what are you guys thinking/predicting/hoping to see for your fave/hated teams this year?

As a big Blue Jays fan, I would love to see them sign one of the big aces out there but I just don't think it's in the cards. Price scares me on a 7 yr deal with declining velocity and I don't see Greinke leaving the US.

My desires for the Jays are:

1) Sign Chen (proven SP in the AL East)

2) Trade 1 of Revere, Saunders, or Pompey for farm system positional depth

3) Ride that ridiculous offense back to the playoffs!!

I want to see Price go to the Cubs. I definitely don't want to see him sign with the Red Sox. My gut tells me I'm going to be disappointed though....

Yeah, it seems baseball is always slow. A lot big free agants right now. Especially pitching. Those guys are going to wait till the little free agents get signed to establish the market. The guy from San Diego, Zimmerman, and such.

As for the Cubs, I hate to say it, but I don't think they are going in on any of the huge pitching guys- Price and Grienke. I think they will go after Shark again, the San Diego guy, maybe Zimmerman. The Lester contract tied them up more then we know. They still need a true left fielder. Will Fowler take somewhat of a hometown deal? They could use another reliever and a lefty specialist.

There ya go. J.A. Happ signs with the Blue Jays for 3 yrs 36 million.

Friendly Advice: PUT A BASEBALL IN YOUR CHILDS LEFT HAND AND SEE WHAT CAN HAPPEN

36 mil/3 yrs for JA freakin Happ

Comparisons among major sports for 12 million/year

NFL: Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers, Richard Sherman, Chris Long, Julio Jones, Joe Haden (all multiple pro bowls)

NHL: Toews highest paid at 10.3 this year

NBA: Kyle Lowry, Al Horford, Rudy Gay, Serge Ibaka, Kemba Walker, Ty Lawson

JA happ is nowhere near the relativity of importance as those players are in their sport

People can say baseball is dying as much as they want, but $ says otherwise....the A's (my favorite team) signed Rich Hill (Im sure you've all heard of him (sarcasm)) for 6 million for 1 year

Zimmerman off the table - headed to Detroit Rock City. I think that guy is going to get CRUSHED in the AL. That was one I wanted to avoid for sure....

Rumors are the Red Sox are willing to go 30-40 mill above other offers to ensure they get Price. This sport needs a hard cap in the worst way

Shelby Miller for Soler has been mentioned. The Braves really want Soler.

Hmm fair trade and Miller is a good pitcher. But I'm with you. I don't think I would trade Soler. He's important to the team and is starting to come into is own.

I think the Cubs would regret that trade as soon as next year. Miller's peripherals don't add up to a future 1 or 2, and that's what the Braves want in return. I think he's a good number 3, but I wouldn't trade Soler for that.

Btw, Price just signed for 7 years 217 million to play for Boston. $31 million annually. Dude just got paid.

You're right about Miller.

Good luck with that Boston. Thank the Lord we didn't give that deal. That's up here with some terrible deals. He'll be busted by his 4th year.

I think Price is a very smart pitcher and while it's pretty obvious that nobody deserves that money he will be an above average arm his entire career and will be an ace for the next 3-5 years.....as for Miller I think he would do great with the cubs, he pitches very similarly to both Lester and Arrieta (works off of cutter mainly) so I think they could aid his development as much as any bullpen coach/team philosophy could.....I've heard Baez for Miller though

Don't get me wrong...I would be perfectly fine if the Cubs landed Miller. Just not for Soler. The Braves are trying to sell high, and that's perfectly understandable after the season they had. They know as well as anyone that he's nothing more than a good number 3. I think they are just hoping someone is willing to overpay.

They asked the Dbacks for Pollock straight up for Miller, and AZ balked. Teams are becoming smarter with their resources and not overvaluing traditional stats like ERA and wins.

There is always one team desperate enough to blow the market out for a guy like Price and pay over the odds.

I completely agree that he has 4/5 years in him. if you want/need to sign him though you have to give the extra 2 years or he'll go elsewhere. I'm sure they know this too but what can you do. They clearly have unlimited cash.

The crazy thing is that Price can opt out after 3 years if he thinks the market will give him even more money.

I loved Price with the Jays, have always liked him and heard he's a great dude. But Father Time is a bastard, and when he loses a bit of velocity and that fastball flattens out, he is going to get CRUSHED. Glad the Jays won't be on the hook for 31 per when he's in his late 30's (instead it will be $12 per to an aging Happ :( )
