The Staff needs to work with the Admin to give them more flexibility in pulling players from the portal. You’re not lowering your standards academically if these kids would’ve qualified out of HS and are in good academic standing from their previous school. Im not naive in thinking the portal is wide open to them, but they can leverage it better than they do now and it’s a necessity.

My only pushback is the Feb Signing Day has lost a massive amount of significance. In reality December isn’t “early” signing day, it’s just signing day, February is late signing day.

That’s my hope. It’ll be interesting to see if Michigan goes ND’s route and promotes a young Asst like Gattis or Hart. I’ve heard people in the College Football media say Fickell will be a target, I just don’t see him taking that job.

They don’t have to rebuild their whole roster through the portal, but getting a Corner that doesn’t suck would be nice.

Why is it impossible if the kid meets the academic requirements? And you’re a fool to think ND can compete without the Portal. Every major program that has any kind of weakness can now pluck a free agent out of the portal. I don’t care how well you recruit & develop, there’s going to be misses and you can’t compete when you’re stuck with the Clarence Lewises of the world bc your dipshit Admissions office doesn’t feel like handling the paperwork.

I don’t think so, but I do think Dart will put up better numbers under Kiffin. Regardless, I’m very angry the staff didn’t do more with the Portal. They can take regular transfers, there’s no excuse to overlook the Portal when in many ways, it’s more valuable than recruiting. Those transfers are basically locked in once they commit, that’s not the case for HS recruits.

I’m really not happy ND sat on their butt with the transfer portal outside of Joseph. How the hell could you watch that Bowl game and be ok with Clarence Lewis, Bo Bauer, and JD Bertrand as starters? They’re terrible. You guys want to win at a higher level, then you should be pissed off ND let themselves get passed over by USC in the course of a month. Either get on board with the Portal or get used to 8-9 wins. And frig Clark Lea for recruiting those scrubs.

Yeah, they rebuilt their entire team in the portal and ND barely did a damn thing. Why did they not get a Corner to replace Clarence Lewis? Better yet, why still the #1 Corner on the depth chart?

I don’t like him as a person, but he’s a great football coach. He also signed Walker Howard and ND ended up with Steve Angeli, so maybe he’s doing something right?

Does Jeff know more than the guys at 24/7 or college staffs in the upper echelon of the Big 10? I saw Peyton Ramsey play 3 yrs of HS. I knew he’d be a solid mid level B10 QB, but I would never get on here and say ND should recruit him. I can separate my personal bias from having seen a kid play vs convincing myself he’s capable of playing at this level.

I actually don’t like the movie Rudy. My only fantasy is seeing ND win a title again. The pursuit of getting back to that level is drama enough.

But the idea of ND signing Allen is a fantasy, look at his offers. The fact he grew up an ND fan doesn’t mean anything. I think fans in general try way too hard to romanticize sports. It seems like there’s large groups of fans and media always trying to find the angle of a story that makes the best movie and they try to make that the narrative. The bottom line is the process of winning is boring. It’s about having talent, excellent coaching and being able to combine those two things together to win at a high level.

Rudolph. And I can tell you with 100% certainty, he’s a legitimately good guy. However, there were guys before him and after him. I can tell you there’s a LB in the class of ‘25 they’ll be looking at in the near future. He might be tough to get bc he’s Shaun Alexander’s nephew, but he can play.

I’m only a dick bc I don’t believe in pushing a personal bias to the detriment of the program. If he had no personal attachment to Brady Allen, he wouldn’t care that he was passed up in recruiting.

My dad was a ND fan and there’s an established pipeline bw my high school and ND. Basically, the same story as a lot of Catholics growing up in the Midwest.
