Seems a personable guy.  He's pulled an Aussie punter to Purdue & transfer kickers to both Purdue & Ole Miss.  Former player @ Marshall, so shares that perspective. 

I think the ND role is probably more about his evaluation, and then communication and instruction.  You can get the guys you need here.  It's trickier that you need 6 of them, but you can only use maybe 3 of them at a time -figuring out 'how to keep them around?'

But the portal is redefining the kicker position sorta like QB's now - they'll find their starting spot somewhere and they're gone.  I expect ND is an easy sell and we could probably ride proven grad transfers for a good long time.
