  1. This is just sad and funny at the same time. I'm not sure whats going on behind the scenes, or who is being more unreasonable in this process, but someone's got to to give. It was funny watching the reporter get steamed and his comments about the whole thing and PC in general. But the sports hounds will still continue to show up and hang on every word and action of the recruiting drama because it's "newsworthy".
  2. Kids, Devonte is having a fight with his daddy about what school he's going to go to.
  3. The 8 year olds are starting to get a little restless here. Pretty soon it'll be Lord of the Flies....
  4. We need to win. They need to lose. Don't they also play Bama this year, that might shake up their team and recruits getting pummeled by a Bama squad that's really good. UM his very persuasive in having recruits commit very early. Let the junior day visit wear off and get into the season, especially if they have a bumpy start(which we will hopefully help with) and the recruits will act accordingly.
  5. Of course that would be a silly bet. He's going to enroll early and won't need to sign a LOI, duuuhhhh .
  6. Don't you know, the only reason Urbie offered him is because ND wanted him .
  7. Like this offer. This kid could end up having some solid performances at the combines this summer which will increase his stock and get more offers his way. We get on him early and he's already been to a game which helps us a lot IMO. Lord knows he is coming from a good family that is very well respected and will know the value of a good education and hard work. Side note, I was at the Navy game and missed Mr. Robinson. While I am definitely not a BB fan, he was by far one of my favorite players and have the utmost respect for him. If Jr has they talent of the old man, and maybe that growth spurt, I agree it would be a sick combo for a WR.
  8. With regard to the pre-snap reads, we probably don't have a QB on the roster who's adept at it at this level. How many times last year was Tommy trying to read the D before the snap and we ended up taking a time-out because he took too long? I'm not saying this is entirely Tommy's fault either. The staff needs to come up with better play calling from the booth or sideline to help minimize those types of errors. We will have a lot of growing pains this next season on offense, especially with a new QB likely running the show.
  9. Would be nice, but hopefully without all the "negative" rumors floating around about some of his tactics which may be against NCAA policies. Another great recruiter is a must though and a welcome addition. Hopefully he can coach a bit too!
  10. LMAO...arm punts! I gotta remember that one for next year!
  11. I would just like to see our CB's turn around and make a play for the ball against a noodle armed, lob it up with a hope and prayer, type QB...ahem Denard.
  12. I'm not going to bash on Dee, its his decision and he has to do what he feels is best for him. Who knows maybe after a year he'll decide he wants to come back to ND, one can hope right? We still got 3 WR this class, but we are still lacking that MF replacement. Honestly I don't know how anyone is going to replace Floyd, he was pretty darn good. Maybe we need to quit worrying about finding another MF and coach up all our other WR's into being more involved in our offense. Run better routes, fight harder for the ball in the air, shed defenders, block better, learn the playbook, etc. Beside Eifert none of our other receivers shined outside of MF this year. Partially I suspect that because of our QB's reluctance to look for anyone besides MF, then fall back to Eifert as #2. We need to be able to rely on more than one pass catcher in our WR's and have a QB who will consider throwing to other options especially when they are wide open. Daniels, Smith, Goodman, Jones, Toma, etc etc need to step up this off season big time and upgrade the ENTIRE WR corps.
  13. You and others were right Echo. Looking back one could probably see the writing on the wall that he just wasn't that high on ND like Tee was and was only following Tee there instead of carving his own path. What do you? Really kind of wonder what Tee's take on the whole thing is, is he upset or is he alright with the decision. Blood's thicker than water...
  14. I've seen the comparison a couple times recently mentioned in other threads. Maybe. Its nowhere near as bad IMO. I guess though that I'm starting to see posters mentioning/comparing thread counts and using that as a justification to dismiss people's opinions FWIW. If someone like Omahadomer or other knowledgable/experienced fan from another site started getting flack because their post count isn't high enough for someone here, than that would be pretty upsetting. It shouldn't happen to anyone IMO. Like you said, it is what it is. Perhaps ACross lives in all of us .
  15. FWIW, I posted this over at NDEZ and some of it ties into tchris555 post: Small point here that I just had an epiphany on. In ND illustrious history of football has there ever been an "above average coach"? What I mean is this, we have had great coaches in Rockne, Leahy, Ara, Devine, and Holtz, all of whom won a NC or multiple during the tenures. We've also had abysmal coaches Ty, Faust, etc. We are a program of extremes, feast or famine. Coaches like Weis and even Davie showed signs of promise at one point or another, even Faust in his first year looked promising from those who remember(I was too young). However that promise quickly began to fade into mediocre .500 +/- a game records during the rest of their stay, often coupled with huge blow-out losses to opposing teams. Now here we are after Kelly's second year. Two seasons above .500, but not just a win above, and debatable improvement in the program. Allegedly this 9-3 is good enough is floated to Kelly, and the mention of not expecting/stressing championships for FB anymore. Does that necessarily mean that the BOT or school no longer wish to have NC and football glory, I don't know. I certainly don't think that they would turn that type of success and publicity away from the school. Is it more of a statement that we don't expect it, realize it's a difficult job to do, and we aren't putting pressure on you expecting a NC or you're gone. Is it more of a statement that FB success at 9-3 will be tolerated and is more of the benchmark for consistency to not getting yourself fired ala Ty and Charlie? Honestly hitting 9-3 consistently and as an average over say 7-10 years isn't a bad mark at all IMO. Without checking the exact facts, I'd say our recent successful coaches Ara, Devine, and Holtz probably averaged around that mark over their stay here. Over the course of say 5-7 years historically ND should be a serious contender for a NC at about 1-2 of those years and around a 1-3 loss team a couple of others, and allow for the "down year" or two at 10-3 or 9-4 type season with bowls. I don't know if these conversations were ever spoken or not and at this point its all rumor and conjecture. Kelly is still only two years in and I really don't know how things will work out for him. History will ultimately be the judge of how good he was or wasn't and the direction of the program. If he gets us a NC or in the NC game within his 5 years, while averaging 9-3, I'll be happy and hope that he's retained. Broken down he would obviously have to only average about 1-2 losses over the next three years with one unbeaten team, which is a tall task facing him. If he maintains 8-5 he may or may not be retained, its not 9-3 nor is it 6-6. I just don't know if it'll keep him here, it probably won't in the fans eyes, but the school may decide differently after all the coaching changes in the past 15. Is a 9-3 five year average without humiliating multi game blowout losses to Tier 1 teams, no NC's or BCS's, with close losses also against "inferior" teams we are clearly more talented than, enough to retain ones job?
  16. Leahy! That's the other one I really like there.
  17. He would definitely be one of the few I would pick too Speedy. Wonder if if he's ever ventured into our neck of the woods or if anyone has ever invited him over? BTW, I forgot to mention that board arrogance as being the penultimate ND fan board and how they constantly puff out their chest as the movers in the C4C(call for change) when it came to Ty's firing and the removal of Monk at the top. Talk about arrogance.
  18. Don't get me started on the character issue disparity there P. I'm with you and can't for the life of me figure out the basis for the comparison. I'm independent and will vote candidates from either party depending on that individual, but I will NEVER support Newt or the crap that comes from his mouth. If he somehow got the Rep nomination I will be very very disappointed with my choices for POTUS this election.
  19. Sadly I admit I do go to NDNation occasionally. Of course I think I check about five different ND boards for information and articles, the regularity depends on the time of year and "hot" topic of the day. This board however is the first I always check into for information and one of two that I even post on. Feel special everyone as I impart my wisdom onto you ! Its interesting to view the various sites and to see or get a feel for the flow of the boards and their members. Each definitely take on a life separate from each other that's for sure. I remember years ago when I thought about trying to post on Nation and take part in the madness, I was instructed that I could not participate because I was a newbie and couldn't post on Rock's House with the rest of the "big boys". God that pissed me off and that type of crap really turned me off to their site. Sometimes they can have good information and some of their posters are pretty clued in...some of them lol. Mostly I like to go there to witness the total meltdowns and the boards getting nuked.
  20. He's gone, let it be. I'm perfectly happy if Mr. Decker wants to play at OSU. We are not in dire straits like a few years ago regarding the OL numbers. Are they perfect, no. We do have a number of young OL in house, a couple pick-ups for this year, and another potential stud lined up for next season. People will believe what they want to believe. So far I haven't had any real problem with Kelly and Co's ability to recruit top players to ND and fill positions of need on this team. Kelly came here as a really big unknown as far as recruiting, I think he's handled it adequately. Now if we can get some of the gameday kinks worked out somehow I'll be even happier.
  21. My stance has been that his tweets were concerning in the earlier thread for Yuri. I would be concerned about the overall message Yuri sends publicly out to others. I also mentioned my concern about the weed reference, though not indicating he's partaking, but possibly around that influence which could get him in hot water in and of itself. I have to think there was more to this than just the tweets to warrant getting kicked out of DBP, maybe I'm wrong. They are after all a private school, which can and will operate by a different set of standards for their institution. If it was just for the tweets, I'd have to say that its a bit harsh IMO. I would've thought there may have been some other actions that could've been taken if it was just the tweets. As far as the HS diploma issue that I've seen brought up, is that absolutely necessary? For instance would a GED suffice to get into ND if all of his core requirements were satisfied for entry. Or is the fact that he was expelled automatically lock him out of going to ND? If that's up to the university, I don't know that there is anything BK can do about it.
  22. I guess that's true too to a degree. I think I've seen discussions about ND's policies in the past pre-Monk then during Monk's tenure until Jenkins took over. I believe some have said that while problems were taken seriously in the past, the punishments dolled out became harsher almost "draconian" during Monk and Co's days. Someone correct me if I'm way off here since I'm not exactly familiar with ND's punishment system over the past 20+ years. I know during MF incident this past year, it seemed that his punishment wasn't nearly as harsh as it would have been during Monk's tenure IMO. I think some people felt that it was more in line the way the university dealt with issues prior to Monk et al.
  23. True. However being around that activity may send up some red flags or someone may insinuate that he partakes of it himself. From what I've seen from ND, this issue seems to be taken pretty seriously judging by past events at the school, and someone from within may make it to be more than what was tweeted. I'm just saying...
