I am just now getting around to reading the Sports Illustrated magazine article about the Alabama game and an interesting part was that an Alabama player called the ND defense "simple". He said the ND defense is good because it is simple, but this simpleness also can be exploited. He said Bama knew when their line shifted then ND would react in a specific way and they did that over and over again in the game and it allowed Bama to get the angles they wanted on Nix and Manti. Anyone with more X's and O's experience want to try to break that down and explain what Bama did and why Diaco didn't adjust?
That is not always a reliable indicator. For example, check out Elmer's offers ... I would argue that he is a high 4 star, but his offer list is small because he made an early decision.
SBNation article indicates that he wanted to commit to FSU last week, but they had others ranked above him. I know this is the case with all recruits, but I will be a bit worried until NSD with James. But, as for now, very nice!
From yesterday's Rivals100 chat transcript:
"Brian Perroni: Jim- I talked about Barry Sanders Jr. in a recent roundtable. The big question mark is how he is going to heal from a very, very serious knee injury."
1) ND (academics, close to family, tradition and exposure)
2) Stanford (academics)
3) Utah (love the area and will be fun to see how they do in Pac-10)
4) Purdue (close to family)
From what I understand, the NT is vital for a successful 3-4 so Ian will have to step it up.
I will also go with Zach Martin on offense since this is his first year starting and LT is such a critical position in all offenses.
Another atheist Notre Dame fan here. Growing up in Indiana and appreciating the way that Notre Dame holds their players to higher academic standards than most universities are two of the biggest reasons that I am a fan.
Great for me too since I am often stuck outside the country for work so I usually listen to the radio broadcast while simultaneously checking out DD for extra commentary.
Had a fraternity brother that blocked one of Bonzi Wells' shots in high school basketball. He had a tape of the radio broadcast of that game and he sure did like to play it for whomever would listen. It was impressive given that my fraternity brother was a 5' 11" white guy.
Not saying you aren't right that the surprise is a WR, but how does that relate to the announcement of 5th year seniors? Will the surprise be a lower-profile recruit that suddenly has room on the team because fewer 5th years are coming back than expected? Just a thought....
Is there any chance that, since Clausen is clearly the QB of the present and future, Sharpley decides to focus solely on baseball after this football season? If so, that would put in ND in a really bad spot in terms of depth with DD transferring. Just a thought ...
