By the numbers...

ND is currently ranked 7th overall in the team rankings. I would expect ND to drop slightly, as is customary with many higher ranked kids making decisions at all star games or on signing day. However, there appear to be much fewer uncommitted recruits this cycle at this time of year, so I don't expect ND to drop out of the Top 10.

ND has 5 Top 100 commits, which would be the highest number in the last five cycles: 3 (2023), 4 (2022), 3 (2021), 3 (2020), 2 (2019). The number of Top 50 commits (4) is the highest by far: 1 (2023), 1 (2022), 1 (2021), 2 (2020), 0 (2019).

ND currently has 11 Top 250 commits. That is the same as last cycle (11 Top 250) and lower than 2022 (13 Top 250), but it would be above 2021 (8 Top 250), 2020 (9 Top 250), and 2019 (7 Top 250).

ND has 23 commits, so with 11 out of the 23 commits being in the Top 250, that means 47.8% of the class is in the Top 250. That is the exact same percent as it was in 2023, lower than 2022 (56.5%) and 2020 (52.9%), but higher than 2021 (29.6%) and 2019 (31.8%).

But if you want to see how truly unpredictable rankings can be, just look at the 2019 class. On paper, it was a bad class - low number of Top 100 and Top 250, with less than a third of the class being in the Top 250. But then look at the guys who were ranked outside of the Top 250: Howard Cross, Isaiah Foskey, Nana Osafo-Mensah, Jack Kiser, Kyren Williams, Marist Liufau, JD Bertrand, and Cam Hart. Now, look at the guys inside the Top 250: Quinn Carroll, Kyle Hamilton (OK, he was pretty good), John Olmstead, Litchfiled Ajavon, Isaiah Rutherford, Zeke Correll, and Osita Ekwonu. That is pretty amazing.

As for the movement in the Top 250...

Great to see some notable risers in KVA and Cam Williams. I wasn't surprised to see CJ Carr drop a little. He was solid at Elite 11, but he was ranked around the 4-6 range IIRC and is the 5th QB for Rivals. He had a good season but his stats didn't blow you away like they did for the top four guys, so I was not surprised he dropped. He's still Top 50, and along with KVA, Williams, and Lambert, that is a really solid core. One of the main complaints with BK was that he did not land those Top 50/Top 100 players. ND did the best its done in the last 5 cycles with those two groups. Great job by Freeman and Co.

It is good to see Bryce Young jump into the Top 250. He has been a huge riser on every recruiting service, and I think he could be even higher (he's #49 on On3 and #74 on 247).

I honestly don't know much about Peter Jones or why he fell over 100 spots. He always seemed a little high for a guard, as he was previously inside the Top 100. But I have no idea why he dropped so substantially. FWIW, 247 and On3 have him as a 3-star.

I don't have a huge issue with anyone else in the Top 250, although, I was surprised to see Kedren Young fall 20+ spots. He had a great season, and ND thinks they landed one of the best RBs in the country. It reminds me of a little bit of Jadarian Price, who was barely in the Top 250, but broke all sorts of TX HS records.

The one guy who is not included who I think should be is Micah Gilbert. He probably doesn't have the measurables these recruiting services like (i.e., speed), but he is a really good recruit and ND thinks he will play as a freshman. According to Sampson, ND thinks he will be ahead of Cam Williams in terms of ability to contribute next year.

You did some digging to come up with those numbers!  Thanks!

I am happy with the class so far. I think CJ Carr can be one of the best QBs in the class regardless of where he is ranked. Cam Williams is a legit 5* WR. I think the DL is very underrated. Outside of Lambert, I am not super excited about the OL, but I am also not knowledgeable on the OL.

KVA is a stud and I think the other LBs will be more than serviceable (Bertrand types). Johnson and Moore on the backend couple be really good in a couple years.
