There was a ton of movement, as always, with this update, as high school seasons are over. There will be another update in early January after the all star games - there will be movement there, but likely not as much as this one. Some big jumps from ND commits include Peyton Bowen (now a 5-star), Dylan Edwards (up 19 spots), Kenny Minchey (new to Top 250) and Jayden Limar (new to Top 250). Also some drops, though none that substantial beyond Brenan Vernon (down 34 spots, but still #60 overall). Most commits fell, but this is fairly common - a ton of guys made huge jumps, with many being new to the Top 250. So, not unexpected at all.

ND has 16 commits in the Top 250. That's 61.5% of the class, which is quite good. ND also has 6 commits in the Top 100 which is good, but not great - I believe it's the highest number of Top 100 recruits since 2013, though, which is definitely a good thing.

Other commits who just missed out on the Top 250 based on their player rating include: Adon Shuler (S), Cooper Flanagan (TE), Boubacar Traore (SDE), Devan Houstan (DT), Ben Minich (S), Sam Pendelton (OG), and Preston Zinter (OLB). I believe all of those players were in the Top 250 at one point, minus Traore, Houstan, and Minich. The only three stars in the class are Joe Otting (OG), Armel Mukam (SDE), and Kaleb Smith (WR).

This is a very good class (but not elite), especially considering all the talent that is coming in at the skill positions - RB, WR, DB. Really exciting class, but missing a couple of additional elite difference makers like 5-stars, Keon Kelley (WDE decommit) and Dante Moore (QB who silently committed over the summer). Freeman can continue to improve the talent level in the 2024 class and through the transfer portal.

Shuler being outside of the top 250 is ridiculous.

Regardless, this is by far the best class we’ve had as you put it, since 2013. I’ll take it. Even if that’s all ND can get for the next three cycles, ND talent level will trump anything ND’s had since the Holtz days. That’s the only way to compete.

Comparing this class to the previous 5 classes and the 2013 class, which is the gold standard in the BK/Freeman Era.

2023: 26 commits, 6 Top 100 (23.1%), 16 Top 250 (61.5%)

2022: 23 commits, 4 Top 100 (17.4%), 13 Top 250 (56.5%)

2021: 27 commits, 3 Top 100 (11.1%), 8 Top 250 (29.6%)

2020: 17 commits, 3 Top 100 (17.6%), 9 Top 250 (52.9%)

2019: 22 commits, 2 Top 100 (9.1%), 7 Top 250 (31.8%)

2018: 27 commits, 4 Top 100 (14.8%), 10 Top 250 (37.0%)

Compared to the last five cycles, the 2023 class has the most Top 100 players and the highest percentage of Top 100 players. This class also has the most Top 250 players and the highest percentage of Top 250 players.

2013: 24 commits, 6 Top 100 (25.0%), 13 Top 250 (54.2%)

The 2023 class has the same number of Top 100 players but a slightly lower percentage given it has two more commits than the 2013 class. The 2023 class has more Top 250 players and a higher percentage of Top 250 players. However, the 2013 class includes 5-star Eddie Vanderdoes, who signed but never enrolled. So, it's really 5 Top 100 (20.8%) and 12 Top 250 (50.0%).

So, based on these numbers, I think it's fair to say that this class is on par with the 2013 class, and I could see arguments that it's slightly better (higher percentage of Top 100 and Top 250) or slightly worse (only one 5-star compared to three or four, if you include Vanderdoes).

Also, to compare to the recruiting juggernauts regarding Top 100 prospects, using 2022 as an example since 2023 is not set, here are how the top teams did:

Alabama: 12 Top 100, including 6 Top 50

Georgia: 11 Top 100, 8 Top 50

Ohio State: 7 Top 100, 4 Top 50

I think the OSU 2022 class is very realistic at ND under Freeman. ND has 6 Top 100 and 2 Top 50 in 2023. Add in Keon Keeley and Dante Moore, and that's 8 Top 100 and 4 Top 50. It shows the significant difference getting/keeping those two additional elite recruits would have had on this year's class. I think ND can get there with Freeman.

The only player that's taking is far off to be is Jagusah. I think he's a top 50 player.

But I think this is pretty good

He is a top 50 player on other recruiting sites I believe.

Rankings are all very clickbaity in my opinion. There is always a story to tell after the rankings come out for all of the different fanbases.
