Not a story about others, but this is for all of you frequent fliers. I rack up considerable mileage flying for work and we are permitted to reap the benefits associated with United's elite 1K status, such as free upgrades or discounted international upgrades to business/first.

Because I am part of the group that boards first, I usually have the luxury of seeing everyone else aboard the plane walk by me on their way to their seats.

One of my favorite and most fulfilling things to do for someone, particularly since I have children myself, is to offer my seat to single mothers/fathers flying with a lap child. I see it all the time and they always look overwhelmed with the things they have to carry and the stress associated with flying with an infant. I've been there. Especially when coach overhead space is non-existent with the ridiculously over-sized carry-ons people travel with nowadays.

Really, really pisses off the others in the section because I have a feeling they buy those seats just so they can avoid having to deal with crying kids. Doesn't matter to me. The look on the parent's faces knowing that they'll have all that room to themselves and their child really makes my day....

Just a thought for those of you who travel frequently.....

Echo, just read this... I have status with US Air and get upgraded about 3/4s of the time. I really like doing the same thing for soldiers in uniform. They really deserve those seats and the drinks.
