McCarron's tattoo, (if done by a good artist) coulda been pulled off It looks very sloppy done by whoever did it. That needs to be on Tattoo nightmares on Spike. Eeks...

 

As for the OP's idea, I have a celtic cross, and it's probably a good 7 inches tall. Thats a good size for it. I like the family names idea too. Like another poster said, just be sure you're done spreading your seed

True, good for him, I mean he may thing the tat looks awesome, and if so good for him. In all honesty, so long as he likes it and is happy with it that's all that matters when it comes to a tattoo. Just looks sloppily designed in my opinion.

For anyone considering one ND related, how about The Four Horsemen? It would probably be fairly uncommon. I used to make an intarsia version of them out of wood that used to sell like hotcakes just because it was representative but not something seen frequently.

Irish Convert, only thing that you have to make sure of is you get an artist that knows how to place it on your body so it is big enough to see the detail, and that they are good at portraits, specifically faces. I saw one of the four horsemen and it was horrible because of the artist, it CAN be good though if done right.

I hear you. I know you're limited to a degree with wood but I don't have any tattoos myself so I admit I'm no authority on the level of detail that is achievable.
