  1. The edge rushers in a 3-4 are the OLB's (Neal/Fleming etc). A 3-4 DE isn't going to get many sacks at all or even pressure the QB much. A DEs job in the 3-4 is to occupy the offensive lineman to make sure they keep the LBs free and they are plugging B and C gaps (for those that don't know B gap is between the tackle/guard, C gap is outside the tackle). Sean Cwynar is a prototypical 3-4 DE, has great size (6'4" 284) for the position. I think we will have the most success recruiting athletic 4-3 HS DT's and coverting them to 3-4 DEs like we are doing with Cwynar.
  2. First of all let me say that I am extremely pleased with how this recruiting process is going and I think ND football has an extremely bright future ahead of itself. My question is this; how is this going to effect the recruitment with Marcus Forston? Don't get me wrong Forston choosing Miami was extremely likely, however is there even a remote shot at this point he is still considering ND? Is it fesible to think Forstan could play one of the end positions in a 3-4 (he is the right size and has the athletic ability, but would he be willing to make the move?). He draws tons of comparisons to Warren Sapp and Sapp was extremely disappointing as a 3-4 DE, but he has showed he is still an elite 4-3 DT.
  3. You are planning a head to head format right?
  4. I've done a couple live drafts, its basically all automated (on ESPN and Yahoo anyway). Not everyone has to show up, you are able to submit a player rankings list that automates your picks as the draft goes on. If someone doesn't submit their own player ranking list the given site as a default player ranking system it goes by and it will go off that to draft their team. The problem with the ranking list is if someone forces the draft to go earlier on say TE, K, or defense (positions normally not picked until later) an automated list may leave you with a bottom of the barrel in those regards. Basically if you're running the league you will just set up all the rules/scoring initially and then set a draft date/password and have people sign up.
  5. Awesome news, this is turning into a great class.
  6. Four surgeons are discussing who makes the best patients to operate on: The first surgeon says, "I like to see accountants on my operating table, because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered," The second responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians. Everything inside them is color-coded," The third surgeon says, "No, I really think librarians are the best; everything inside them is in alphabetical order." But the fourth surgeon, Dr. Morris Fishbein, shuts them all up when he observes: "The French are the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no heart, no balls and no spine. Plus the head and a$$ are interchangeable.

  8. "I'll never forget that horrible evening I took my grandmother to the emergency room. And after an hour of pacing the doctor said, "Sir, your grandmother is on an artificial life support system. Although her brain is dead, her heart is still beating." I said, "Oh my God, we've never had a Democrat in the family before."
  9. A little boy goes to hsi dad and asks, "What is politics?" Dad says, "Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I'm the bread winner of the family, so let's call me capitalism. Your mother, she's the administrator of the money, so we'll call her 'the government'. We are here to take care of your needs, so we'll call you 'the people', we'll consider the nanny as the 'working class', and your little baby brother, we'll call him 'the future'. Now, think about that and think if it makes any sense. So the little boy goes to bed thinking about what his Dad said. Later that night he hears his baby brother crying so he gets up to check on him. He finds that his baby brother has soiled his diaper so the little boy goes to his parent sroom and finds his mother sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her he goes to the nanny's room, finding the door locked he peeks in the keyhold and finds his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed. The next morning the little boy says to his father, "Dad I think I understand the concept of politics now." "Good son" the father says, "tell me in your own words what you think politics is about." The little boy replies, "Well, while capitalism is screwing the working class the government is sound asleep. The people are being ignored and the future is in deep sh!t!"
  10. An older lady gets pulled over for speeding... Older Woman: Is there a problem, Officer? Officer: Ma'am, you were speeding. Older Woman: Oh, I see. Officer: Can I see your license please? Older Woman: I'd give it to you but I don't have one. Officer: Don't have one? Older Woman: Lost it, 4 years ago for drunk driving. Officer: I see...Can I see your vehicle registration papers please. Older Woman: I can't do that. Officer: Why not? Older Woman: I stole this car. Officer: Stole it? Older Woman: Yes, and I killed and hacked up the owner. Officer: You what? Older Woman: His body parts are in plastic bags in the trunk if you want to see The Officer looks at the woman and slowly backs away to his car and calls for back up. Within minutes 5 police cars circle the car. A senior officer slowly approaches the car, clasping his half drawn gun. Officer 2: Ma'am, could you step out of your vehicle please! The woman steps out of her vehicle. Older woman: Is there a problem sir? Officer 2: One of my officers told me that you have stolen this car and murdered the owner. Older Woman: Murdered the owner? Officer 2: Yes, could you please open the trunk of your car, please. The woman opens the trunk, revealing nothing but an empty trunk. Officer 2: Is this your car, ma'am? Older Woman: Yes, here is the registration papers. The officer is quite stunned. Officer 2: One of my officers claims that you do not have a driving license. The woman digs into her handbag and pulls out a clutch purse and hands it to the officer. The officer examines the license. He looks quite puzzled. Officer 2: Thank you ma'am, one of my officers told me you didn't have a license, that you stole this car, and that you murdered and hacked up the owner. Older Woman: Bet the liar told you I was speeding, too.
  11. Two blondes realize that their apartment is on fire and go out onto the balcony. "Help, help!" yells one of the blondes. "Help us, help us!" yells the other. "Maybe it would help if we yelled together," said the first blonde. "Good idea," said the other. "Together, together!"
  12. A store that sells husbands has just opened in New York City, where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates. You may visit the store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the attributes of the men increase as theshopper ascends the flights. There is, however, a catch you may choose any man from a particular floor, or you may choose to go up a floor but you cannot go back down except to exit the building! So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband. On the first floor the sign on the door reads: Floor 1 - These men have jobs and love the Lord. The second floor sign reads: Floor 2 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, and love kids. The third floor sign reads: Floor 3 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, and are extremely good looking. "Wow," she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going. She goes to the fourth floor and sign reads: Floor 4 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, are drop-dead good looking and help with the housework. "Oh, mercy me!" she exclaims, "I can hardly stand it!" Still, she goes to the fifth floor and sign reads: Floor 5 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, are drop-dead gorgeous, help with the housework, and have a strong romantic streak. She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor and the sign reads: Floor 6 - You are visitor 4,363,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store. Watch your step as you exit the building, and have a nice day!
  13. Definitely count me in for some fantasy football if there is still room. Keep me posted.
  14. Even with only 5 on the field (assuming its not a goal line situation). Competition brings out the best in everyone and having that kind of talent across the offensive line only means great things for our offense. Sadly I think thats was the only set back on offense during Brady Quinn's tenure was the inconsistant offensive line play as a whole.
  15. I didn't think Walker would go undrafted, but I got flamed here pretty hard when I mentioned he was going to go probably in the 6th round.

    Jamoris Slaughter

His video is impressive. I think I remember from another thread someone mentioned we are recruiting him as a CB? Is that an accurate assumtion or is ND looking at him as a S? He plays extremely physical and really hammered a few guys. That one hit on the sideline put that WR 4 yards out of bounds.
  17. remember that these are high school kids and not all of them take the proper steps to good weight training and dieting like they would in college. getting bigger and stronger can be easily fixed with a redshirt year, i remember john carlson came in as a skinny freshmen and now look at him. I know, I wasn't stating that a guy can't improve. However you have to realize your statement holds true on both ends. The guys tackling him are in the same boat in regards to lack of elite weight training and dieting. I am not saying he can't become a great player by any means, he has some of the physical tools already there. I was just making an unbiased observation of his highlight video.
  18. Not trying to be extremely negative, but he is pretty soft. Considering his size 6'8" 242, I figured I was going to see him break some tackles by DB's (who are generally at most 180 in high school), yet he always went down on first contact. Although he did show the ability to get open and showed soft hands.
  19. Excellent news. Taking away some of the sting of last years shortcomings at the position. Welcome to the family McDonald.
  20. The thing you are over-looking is the fact that we haven't had the success USC has had the last 5-6 years. While we are able to compete with anyone in the country in regards to offensive recruiting, high school kids seeing our defense give up 40+ points and sometimes 600+ yards in Bowl games doesn't exactly make us the place they want to go as their stepping stone to the NFL (which a lot of HS kids hope to do after college). To expect us to compete with USC in regards to defensive talent and over-all class talent is a bit hasty. Once we win that elusive bowl game we'll be in good shape. As soon as Corwin Brown turns this defense around and makes it respectable we'll be able to be a lot more selective. Corwin Brown has already made a huge impact on recruiting. Helping seal the deal on Robert Hughes last year will most likely land us a great prospect in Darius Fleming this year. After the B&G game we are looking at about 10 or so commits if all goes well. Not to mention of those 10 commits we're potentially going to have 3 LBs and a DT, huge areas of need and we will have quality additions. So McDonald is probably not going to be a 5 star recruit, big deal. McDonald however will probably be wearing Notre Dame blue and gold and that means a hell of a lot more than 5 stars in my book. Anyone that knows football and has watched his film can see the kid is a player. He has a great nose for the football, tackles very well, sheds blocks very well, and never gives up on a play.
  21. I am a Baltimore fan myself. I've never felt so bad after taking 2 of 3 in Yankee stadium before. I was watching the game and I just had this feeling we were somehow going to lose it. Giambi 3 run shot in the 8th, A-Rod slam in the 9th, so much for the revamped bullpen.
  22. Just wanted to point out that McDonald and Crist aren't coming to the B&G game, they will be in South Bend the week after when I believe they have a break from school. I thought it was just before the B&G game? I knew McDonald and Crist were visiting on another date, I should of worded my statement differently. Although many are talking like Fleming and McDonald will be Irish before we turn the calender.
  23. Shark posted it, it has to be true!
  24. Good to see he is Irish. If Fleming and McDonald commit at the B&G game, do we have room for 1 or 2 LBs left in the this class?
  25. OT-Kyle Long: "Coach (Charlie) Weis is very professional. I like his style and being who I am and who my dad (Howie Long) is, they play the game they way it's supposed to be played. My dad likes them a lot." I read that on another forum in a post about recent offers. I was curious as to how good he is, national recruit? I know his dad was an amazing player in the NFL.
