  1. He kind of reminds me of Gunner Kiel. I could see him committing and decommitting from Bama. Or going to Bama and transferring. Cali kid a Bama? Talk about out of your element. Smart choice would be for him to go to Oregon and stop listening to other coaches fans etc.
  2. I like his versatility playing either offense or defense. That beings said i'd much perfer him as an offensive weapon. I'm sorry but 5'9 corners never pan out. Every year a few 5'9 corners are ranked highly but never pan out on D. Just look at the draft each year. The NFL wants bigger corners. Kelly is being realistic telling this kid slot is his future
  3. I'm sure his base salary was much higher than that. We'd have a hard time finding a good coach if we weren't even willing to pony up a million a year for one.. I've heard and read that since ND is a private institution they don't have to report what they're paying a HC like other schools do and that's why ND's reported salaries are always much lower than other schools. I just can't believe Kelly's salary is around 700k. There's dozens of schools that would give him 4-5 million a year
  4. Are you referring to Grace or Council? Grace's injury looked really bad but I thought Council was expected to make a full recovery?
  5. I think Tommy is a practice squad player at best. Hopefully he lands somewhere. Look at the McGloin kid from PSU. He looks like he has no business being in an NFL locker room. He's undersized, not athletic and has a weak arm yet he started a bunch of games last year for the Raiders and actually played well. Watching him in college I never thought much of him. Looked like a smaller version of Tommy Rees
  6. As a Yankee fan I'm hoping they get Shark. He's the best pitcher on the trade market right now but it will cost a lot of prospects to get him. The cubs would be wise to hang on to him. He's an ace and still very young, just entering his prime. Forget the wins and losses he's pitching fantastic. When his next contract comes up he's going to get a big payday.he made the right choice picking baseball over football no doubt
  7. Faster and more explosive than Jaylen? That's hard to believe, but I hope its true
  8. Assuming he has a big year I'd be surprised to see him back for a 5th. He'll never be an early draft pick because of his size, but he'd get drafted in the later rounds for sure IMO. Hell if Troy Smith could get drafted I don't see why Golson wouldn't .
  9. Next years draft class should be small. I'd say 3-5 draft picks. Koyack and Daniels should have a productive year so I doubt either will return for a 5th year. If Golson has a huge year I think there's a decent chance he'll take a shot at the NFL rather than return for a 5th. Russell will go pro, he'll be a 1st or 2nd rounder. If Day stays healthy I see him having a 2nd to 3rd round grade. Other than that I don't see any other draftees.Unless some guys really emerge like Stanley, Shumate ,Brown, Jones etc
  10. Sad to say but Nix should've went pro last year when his stock was high. He was dominant in the 2012 season, but his film from this past season was pretty poor. With tuitt and Nix being in such poor physical shape last year and the amount of injuries to the front 7 you have to wonder if Longo will be on the hot seat.
  11. Not really it made more financial sense for those guys to leave now even though they've fallen to the second round. The $ difference isn't that great anymore since the new collective bargaining agreement. The big money is in the second contract. So you're actually better off leaving school early now to try and get that second contract faster. Even Niklas' father made that exact same point. That's why you have so many underclassmen leaving early now and we'll probably have more ND guys next year leaving early despite not being first rounders. Look at Sam Bradfords contract in the old rookie collective bargaining agreement compared to Andrew Lucks contract in the new agreement. its a huge difference. The players union got fleeced last time around.
  12. guy has the strongest arm of any ND QB I've seen. too bad he had no accuracy.
  13. hmm not the best offer list, but the staff must like him a lot.
  14. Weis was a good play caller when he first got to ND. Opposing coaches figured him out after that. His playcalling got worse as time went on. When he first got to ND he inherited a talented and experience offensive unit. Not to mention a unit that played under Willinghams west coast pro style offense. So the transition was easy. His play calling the last 3 years of his tenure was terrible IMO. He's a great OC, but he's better suited for the NFL. Not enough practice time in collge for him to be as effective as he is in the NFL.
  15. No way would I take those guys over Kelly. I think you'd make a better argument with guys like Sumlin or Shaw. Not that I'd take Sumlin or Shaw over Kelly, but I think they're better coaches than the ones you list. I like Petersen, but lets see how he does with the big boys first. As for the top 10 list, Kelly is clearly a top 10 coach. Briles and Dantonio are great coaches also, but I don't see the logic in having them higher than Kelly right now. Kelly deserves a lot of credit for going unbeaten in the regular season twice now in recent history. Its incredibly hard to go unbeaten. Every year there's maybe one or two unbeaten teams out of 119 teams at the conclusion of the regular season. FSU was the only unbeaten team this past season and ND was the only unbeaten in '12 leading up to the championship. Kelly went unbeaten his last year at Cincinnati too. So that's twice in what 5 or 6 years? Now people are going to say its the Big East. But a lot of high profile coaches have come out of the Big East over the years Petrino, Shiano, Rodriguez, Strong etc, but none were able to go unbeaten like Kelly did.
