Calling Texas a cupcake is ridiculous.
Johnathan Gray 5 star top RB in 2012 class
Daje Johnson 4 star 4.3 40, John Burt was just outside the 5 star WR in last years class and runs a 4.4 40.
Swoopes was a 4 star and Heard was a 4 star and the 4th ranked dual threat QB
The OLine, which is supposed to be so bad, is all 4 stars. Yes, they have two freshman starting but they also have two 5th yr seniors starting. Junior RT Kent Perkins was ranked ahead of Elmer, McGlinchey, and Bivins in the 2013 OT class.
And BTW, our dLine had three sophomores and a true freshman getting plenty of playing time.
I know you all think Heistand is a chump but our OLine pushed around a decent Dline. Desmond Jackson (5th yr Sn) was in the 2011 Rivals 100 and was the 7th ranked DT!
Linebackers Malik Jefferson (5 star), Freeman (4 star), and Jinkens (4star) are a very good line backing corps.
In my opinion, the DB's are the weakest link in this Texas team.
Texas class rankings by Rivals:
2015 #12
2014 #20
2013 #24
2012 #2
2011 #3
Even Herbstreet said it wouldn't be an easy game. The rivals analyst (Driskell?) thought Texas was a decent but not great team.
Texas is no cupcake. They may not be a top 25 team but other top 20 teams did play lesser teams than Texas and did much worse:
#2 TCU barely beat Minn 23-17
#5 MSU beat western Michigan 37-24
#22 Arizona beat Texas El Paso 42-32
#21 Stanford lost to Northwestern 16-6
Then of course there were a few true cupcakes:
Clemson played Wofford
GT played Alcorn St (not appalachian St)
Georgia played Louisana Monroe
Anyway, you are very misguided if you think Texas is a cupcake. Is it the challenge GT or Clemson will be ... No. But they are no cupcake.
I think what you really saw was a team that was used to practicing against much better talent than they faced in the game.
Our Dline had a much easier time than when they had to deal with Stanley, McGlinchey, Martin, Nelson, and Elmer.
I think our DBs had an easier time than dealing with Fuller, Hunter, Robinson, etc.
Our OLine had an easier time than dealing with Day, Rochel, and Trumbetti.
Our WR had a much easier time than dealing with KVR and Luke.
And most of all I think you saw the making of a superstar in Jaylon Smith.
They did what they were supposed to do. They beat a great program that is having a down year. But saying Texas is a cupcake is silly.
