Swarbrick was appreciative of him not coming to him with the opportunity to counter LSU's offer, so clearly it was time to part ways. There is no long term loyalty between schools and coaches. That ended with Bowden and FSU and Joe Pa with PSU (ok, maybe not a good example), but you get my point. You hear it every time there is a coaching vacancy...........it's a business. A multi-billion dollar business and every school is trying to get their part of that business.
We as a fan base will just have to accept that 12 years may be the longest we will see a coach at ND. It's hard to accept that Notre Dame has now become a stepping stone to bigger and better, but it may be today's reality.
Swarbrick also said that Notre Dame is an unique place. Has that uniqueness worn off and ND is now just that pesky little brother who aspires to be like big brother? ND competes with formerly big names, USC, Standford, FSU and shows enough to big brother hey I'm just as good as you, but when it's time to show up and compete against the big boys and big brother, they are put in their place.
Who, what and how can ND get back to the big brother status? Is it a coach? Is it joining a conference? Is it lowering academic standards to get the elite players and top ten recruiting year in and year out? The elite are going to college not for an education, but a springboard into the pros, so why worry about grades?
Ok, off my soap box and out of the rabbit hole. Stay calm and Irish on!!!!
