Did he not do the 3 come drill , etc? I figured he would perform better at those. He was always quicker then fast. What was his 10 yard split?

Yeah, I expected 4.55-4.6ish.. but not that high. I thought he looked a lot quicker and faster last year then this. But, always assumed it was our Oline. last year when he outran Clemson, I thought this kid has to be 4.5… I didn’t see that this year. some guys are game fast vs track. I think he has a lot of skills teams are looking for. But, no way he goes 2nd round like some thought. He may be lucky for 3rd round. This past years numbers don’t help him at all.

I expected 4.4.. this time does not surprise me. When you watch him in open field he could blaze. Injuries and lack of understanding at the position cost him from being a day 1 or 2 pick.

I believe you are right with him visiting. I’m hoping this means Moore is a silent commit, and not that Vizzina is no longer interested. It’s that, or ND decided to push all the chips in for Moore. Which, I am ok with .

I have heard he is a lean, but not heavy lean. I want Moore anyways. I think it will be between us and Michigan. I’m hoping Harbaugh being unstable helps us land him. Plus, our helmets are way cooler.

What Wimbush became still bothers me. He should have become such a better QB then what he was. Credit to Book on what he became, but Wimbush regressed from high school. I’m sure certain posters will find a way to deflect that from Kelly though.

And they were bad even when he was on the team last year. I’m hoping our D line can wreak havoc, and I think they can. What worries me is when OSU plays with tempo. That’s stresses linebackers more, and singles our corners more. That’s why we struggle against teams with tempo.

As for a running qb, that’s if Buchner starts. I have high hopes, but I think there is something about Pyne. Kid has balls, and seems to know football. I thinks it’s Buchner job to lose, but if he can’t seem to throw with accuracy, and poor decision making then Pyne starts. I want Logan Diggs to run less timid, and more aggressive, and use Estime. That kid would bring physicality.

I love Sneed, but I don’t think he starts next year. Maybe special teams and situational pass rusher. Liafau I have very high hopes for, but that’s a tough injury to come back 100% from. Joseph can definitely help, but against top WRs, they will find ways to isolate them. So you need two great corners in college football today. Joseph can be a 1-3 rd nfl draft pick. I’m hoping he can be a ball hawk and between him and Henderson teams fear passing over the middle. Neither of those safety’s are thumpers though. Putting more need for physical MLBs.

I have been calling for ND to be physical for so long it becomes nauseating. We have been way to soft for way too long . It doesn’t mean running 50 times a game, it when you do run you need to be nasty. I trust in Hiestand to do this. And on D, we had better hit people. Not sitting and waiting . I’m hoping Freeman sees to this. He knows what a physical defense looks like, and knows the type of player it takes. I’m just not sure we have the players except some of the younger players that may not be ready to play yet.

I think Rees has been undervalued . How our offense looked that last half of last season, was great, and without a very talented QB. I blame deficiencies at other coaching positions to our struggles . Very poor Oline coaching and WR coaching. Both of those positions have been rectified. Let’s see what the offense looks like this year and next with real coaching at key positions.

The OSU game will be interesting. I am looking to see what the identity of our team is. I also think we are returning a more talented team then what many people think. If we have a QB that can run an offense, corners opposite Cam Hart,(hoping Ryan Barnes) and our receivers turn into what I think they can be.. I think we can win that game. I want to add, don’t overlook a team playing with confidence and playing for a coach as well as teammates (not the case during Kelly’s tenure). If we come out like Ok st and can finish the game like I think we can, we win and show we are here. Not pretending like the past 10 years.

It should be. Freeman was basically an interim head coach. Nobody ever blames an interim head coach for a loss. They always say it was the other coaches team, he didn’t have his coaches, his players etc. Apparently because Freeman was named the actual head coach that changes the narrative? If we lose like this in this years bowl game, blame Freeman. We lost this year because of Kelly holding on to coaches that don’t belong coaching Division 1 football. Those coaches are still unemployed which says a lot about how bad they were. If the adjustments we needed to make were to run more, we averaged 2 yards per carry. That’s on the Oline not being fundamentally sound to hold the blocks. If it was to attack downfield more, our receivers couldn’t beat press coverage. On defense all they did was chuck it deep against our inferior corner. How do you change that, shade a safety over the top? We did that, and they ran RPO against that. We need more talent in the secondary. That was the issue on defense in the second half. A secondary recruited by Kelly. If in year two and 3 we still see these mistakes, it’s on Freeman. You can’t teach at halftime how to hold block, how to beat press coverage, or how to play the ball and receivers eyes better. That’s position coaching. Two of those, we had some of the worst position coaches in power 5. Did Freeman hire them?

This thread didn’t age to well. The staff in place looks really good. Blaming our loss to OK st on the staff and not Kelly is mind boggling when the staff hired was Kelly’s. The reason we lost is we had receivers who couldn’t figure out how to beat press coverage, and an Oline that didn’t know how to handle stunts and an athletic dline.. but yeah, blame lack of adjustments for this. There are no adjustments you can make of your players aren’t coached how to do these adjustments when the other team adjusts. When you don’t know shit about football you make dumb observations. If people want to go on rants about things, please have facts , and some knowledge of football to back it up. Otherwise it’s mindless fan nonsense.

We won’t hire anyone for a few weeks at least. Freeman is out recruiting like crazy right now, which is what he should be doing. When the dead period starts, he will interview candidates and hire a coach. No need to get worked up. Hiring a DC is tough since freeman was a DC, and some will not want a HC hovering over them, also Freeman will be very picky about who he hires. Al Golden could be a great hire, not sure who else we will be interviewing. Heacock wanted to bring his own coaches, right or wrong. We said no, now we look onward.

You guys think it’s between Lugg and Spindler? Kristofic is automatically a starter?

I agree, hoping spindler can take job from Kristofic. I like him, but think Spindler can provide more power. If Lugg is actually healthy , he is one of our 5 best.

I get it Elder. I know you liked Kelly. I didn’t, and not because of his attitude. It was due to him coming up short, and lackadaisical recruiting effort. I like Freeman, a DC to HC is a very tough transition. Even harder at ND. Let’s see how next year goes. I’m an optimist. My hope is he watches the game today over and over, not the players, but himself and what he should have done differently. Give 2 years and you will know if he can coach and win.

Holy crap guy. Still on this horse? Give Freeman a few years , if he sucks ND will find a new coach. Keep posting though, with all your excellent football credentials and “common sense” , ND may ask for your input on the new coach . Maybe you can take over for Jack.

Great coaches don’t lose to Tulsa, navy twice, go 4-8 after 6 years in a program, and constantly lose / can’t compete against the best teams in the country. Kelly was not a great coach. I will say good, definitely not great. I wanted him gone to find a great coach to lead us somewhere clearly Kelly couldn’t take us. If you want to settle for mediocrity or slightly above average, feel free.
