  1. Anybody really think he'll end up at ND? How can the ND staff consider this kid a "commit"? It is clear that the path of least resistance for him (teen agers like paths of least resistance) is LSU. I'd say he's 60-40 to flip right now and every Ole Miss or Bama or UF visit he takes knocks about 5% off ND's chances. *************************************************************** "That game was awesome," said Tillery's mother, Mildred. "It was so loud, and I had been there before, but I never knew it got loud. Jerry was standing on the sidelines for the last two minutes and we could barely find him when the game was over." Tillery committed to his childhood favorite Notre Dame back in June of 2013 and remains committed to the Irish according to his mother. Since then he has made his rounds to check out some games. He has been to at least one Notre Dame game and also took an unofficial visit to Ole Miss when the Rebels hosted Alabama. Mildred said the trip to Ole Miss reinforced her stance on the distance from home angle that sometimes comes into play. "I'm shameless, and like I told Jerry when we were at Ole Miss for the Alabama game, I asked him what would happen if he hurt himself like that guy from Alabama (Kenyan Drake) did that required orthopedic surgery," said Mildred. "I told him we would be 16 hours from home and there would not be anything we could do about it. He just got very quiet. "I think the distance and the scenery make it a tough decision. Jerry is a big momma's boy and somebody has always been there for Jerry. That's one thing that makes it tough with it (Notre Dame) being so far from home." Sunday was the usual official visitor itinerary that included breakfast with the staff then tours of campus and Tiger Stadium. However, there was one wrinkle for Tillery that most other prospects do not get. "Jerry actually met with (offensive line) coach (Jeff) Grimes and with (defensive line coach) Brick (Haley)," explained Mildred. "Jerry thinks he may want to play on defense and that is an option that coach Miles has given him. Next up for Tillery is an official visit to Dartmouth this weekend followed by a return trip to LSU for the Alabama game on Nov. 8. He also has plans to take an official visit to Notre Dame and will be at Texas A&M for an official when the Aggies host LSU on Thanksgiving night, making that five LSU games he has been to this season.
  2. Bro, Settle down. I wasn't calling you out. I was using your post which said something like "I think we can keep this competitive" (I now forget the exact line) as an example of many/most ND fans going into this game thinking we're about to get buried. I'm sure you're a great fan. But you're taking this too seriously and too personally. I am tired of those who whine about haters. ESPN, Corso, David Haugh from the Chi Trib, etc etc and then turn around and quake about a big game. You're either on the bus or you're off. (Not YOU personally, btw)
  3. ... you think FSU will deliver, then plz don't post any further about how ESPN hates ND. Not saying you have to be predicting a win, but this attitude that everyone hates and no one believes in ND is tiring. WHO CARES??? ND 34 FSU 27 GO IRISH
  4. Bold statement after last week. And therein lies the crux of the game issue for many. Simply put: Was last week's D effort an anomaly or were we too quick to sing this unit's praises? Unclear. They've been very good this year, especially against Stanford and UM. But it's also pretty clear that those are two very poor offenses. To ND's credit, they didn't screw either up. And in the Stanford game they overcame the offense continually putting them in a tough position. But re: UM, it's getting harder and harder to rave about that as something special.
  5. FSU is the favorite for a reason. Defending NC, home field and currently ranked higher. And however flawed, they have the Heisman guy taking snaps. Further, many still think ND has beaten no one. Michigan has turned out to be a joke, Stanford was the essence of an ugly win, Syracuse and Purdue were decided victories but each had their elements of "eeeeewww". And UNC was ridiculous. All those games have mitigating explanations but so what? So if someone here says they expect FSU to win, I get that. It's the ones saying stuff like "we might be able to be competitive if we get a few breaks" that are annoying. If that's YOU, you're a non-believer and no different from Herbstreit, Howard, Corso and all of ESPN and whoever else you think is out to get ND. So next time anyone wants to blast them for banging on ND and being non believers, first ask yourself if YOU truly believed. Or were you one of those just hoping to lose a close one? I say there is no way this is a blow out, either way. I say ND wins. It's just more fun that way. And I really DO believe it. WHERE IS THE HEART????
  6. I just read someone's post in another thread that "this game could very well end up being competitive". COME ON!! Funny thing is this: Some of the people here and on other boards who are expecting an FSU avalanche and are just hoping that ND is competitive are the same ones who complain daily about ESPN, Desmond Howard and the rest of the media showing no love. It's either one or the other. Either you believe that ND has no chance and just keeps it within 14 points or you believe ND is the real deal and has a legit shot to go down to Tallahassee and win. If you're the former, then stop complaining about ESPN and others hating on ND. Because you don't believe in them either. Go Irish ND 34 FSU 27
  7. Don't think so. I thought Kelly was about to bring him to ND then the Buffalo HC job came up. For those saying "get this guy", who do you get rid of? LaFleur seems to be doing very well, coaching and recruiting. Denbrock - a Kelly loyalist and in good standing. Doubt he's going anywhere. There is a limit to the number of coaches you can have. Fine if they bring in Quinn, but not sure I want to see any of the current guys leave.
  8. The idea of playing a QB who's never thrown a CFB pass because a QB turns it over a couple times is senseless. Not banging on the original poster, but this fawning over Zaire that goes on here is testament to the old saying of the fans' favorite player being the backup QB. Here are some other truths: - Zaire isn't playing meaningful minutes this year, barring injury - With Wimbush coming in, Zaire needs to be concerned. - Zaire might transfer after this year because he's tired of holding a clipboard. Not predicting it, but it happens. At every school. It's the price you pay for having a lot of talent. Let it go.
  9. I don't think it has that much effect on recruiting. Granted if ND sh**s the bed and finishes with 4 losses, THAT will hurt recruiting. But assuming that doesn't happen (and it most likely will not), how much incremental recruiting boost does ND get from going 12-0 vs. 10-2 or 11-1 ? And how much incremental recruiting boost do they get from being ranked 5th vs 3rd or 8th, mid season? Very little is the answer to both. ND is on Nat'l TV every week and plays multiple big games on a national stage in big venues all over the country every year. A loss or two isn't going to cripple recruiting. And if Desmond Howard and Mark May and whoever else at ESPN hate ND ... my opinion is it's irrelevant. For every person these recruits know who likes ND at their HS and in their neighborhood, they probably already know 5-10 who hate ND. Yet year after year ND gets great classes. The biggest impediments ND getting #1 recruiting classes has are academics and lousy weather, neither of which are going to change. Good discussion, but much ado about zip.
  10. If you care, fine. I respect that. But and others who are upset by ESPN or mid season rankings MUST know that in the end it doesn't matter, right? It has absolutely zero effect on ND's ability to beat FSU, ASU, etc. Does anyone remember who was ranked 3rd and 8th last year at this time? I don't. And if anyone has that info it's worth of the circular file. Meaningless. The season will play out and ND will either spit the bit once or twice and go to a mid tier bowl or they'll go 12-0 or 11-1 and make it to the playoffs. That's all that matters.
  11. WHO CARES? This ESPN whining is ridiculous. Are all you guys teen agers?
  12. Keep in mind Flutie has also been critical of him to using his feet too soon, too Easy to be right when you have all bases covered.
