Depth guys man. Think of all the receivers we’ve lost: Young, Keys, Stepherson, Johnson and I’m sure there are others. Defensive backs too… Derrick Allen, KJ Wallace. You don’t think Shayne Simon would help this team?

I’m not sure if these guys panned out, but we saw the lack of depth with Bertrand and Joseph out this past week.

No I dont think Shayne Simon would help. He was terrible and was buried on the depth chart. Hes not that good on Pitt.

Derrick Allen I dont think is better than any safety we have played. Kj wallace is solid but not as good as Bracy.

Stepherson has no eligibilty and wouldnt be on our team. Same with Michael Young. Keys is barely doing anything with tulane but maybe he could've helped

    Jordan Johnson stinks

None of these guys would have made a real impact.  Very minimal.  And we have to cut some guys off our team to make room

We havent really lost anything that we really wanted to stay

Could you please share the changes that will make things easier for transfers to get into ND? I think the transfer portal has killed our depth the last few years. We are losing 10-15 guys a year, yet only getting 5 transfers in, if we’re Lucky.

Nah. We havent really lost anyone we really wanted. And we were at like 84 schollies this year

The scary part is QBs are transferring the second they find out they will not be the starter. Imagine if we get a transfer and recruit for next year, or if we just get a transfer. I could see Pyne and Buchner both leaving. We’re almost going to have to start recruiting guys like Avery Davis, who can play DB or WR, but jump back to QB in case of an emergency.

Highly doubtful either leave until after they graduate

If both have two Ls... it is very debatable....

Let's say TN loses one of the 3 games (I don't see them losing)

TN's resume includes a bad loss.

Or... outside chance, if LSU loses vs at ARK and at TAMU... Bama could be in the SECC...

You didn't say Tn with another loss.  If they lost again,  theyd probably still be above Bama because head to head and they have the better wins.

If Bama wins the sec champ then theres a real debate but they arent beating Georgia

Like I said, unlikely, but possible.

If you want to debate, let's look at current situation, and remaining schedule...

And bonus... I know you don't care about vegas, but Bama still has the 6th (tied) best odds to go to the CFP... and 6 teams above or tied with Bama, play each other.... In short... lots of FB left to be played. Bama has one of the easiest paths..

    Anyway.. detail below..

    Top 10

    RK
    TEAM
    REC
    TREND
    1 9-0

    6 8-1

    9 7-2
    3
    10 8-1

Bama - has only Ole Miss left (this week)... So if they win, they will likely move up all 3 weeks (reg season), and could move up again (during the CC week, even though the don't play....).. both losses were road losses to Top 10 teams, and very very close..

So look at likely, and possible outcomes for the next 4 weeks (only looking at current top 10)...

    • WK1 (this coming week)..
      • Likely loss, or toss up (+/-3 spread) from a top 10 team
        • #4 TCU (TX is a TD favorite)
        • LSU -3 (at ARK, on the road after an emotional win over Bama, and only a 3pt fav)
      • Unlikely loss, but possible
        • Clemson -7 (vs Ville, who is looking better, and on a 4 game win streak)
        • OR (vs WA - these teams have been close the last 3 years..
    • WK2
      • Likely loss, or toss up
        • TCU (at Baylor)
        • OR (vs Utah)
        • USC (at UCLA)
      • Unlikely, but possible
        • UGA (at KY)
        • TN (at SC)
        •
    • WK3
      • Likely loss, or toss up
        • UM at OSU
          • or OSU (vs UM).. lol
      • Unlikely, but possible
        • OR (at ORSt)
        • LSU (at TAMU)
        • USC (vs ND)
        • Clemson (vs SC)
    • CC Week
      • PAC - all teams have 1 loss, and both teams could have 2 losses when they play in the CC.. So bad resume for the CFP
      • ACC - Clemson has zero top 10 wins, and won't even if they win the ACC... resume sucks for the CFP
      • Big12- It's likely that both teams have a loss, and it's very possible, if not even likely, TCU gets beat by TX twice.. and Big 12 has no team in the CFP...
      • B10- has a good chance to have 2 teams to the CFP
      • SEC - has a good chance to have 2 teams to the CFP. If UGA wins out, LSU is out, and it could be coin flip between TN vs Bama (if TN doesn't lose again). The TN/Bama was at Knox, and it was a last second FG..

Tn vs Bama is not a toss up.  TN eould defeiniyely get in

Bama can still back slide into the playoffs. I don't Clemson can.

Bama has two close road losses. One 1 pt OT loss, and a last minute FG loss. Just needs a little luck.

But looks like LSU/UGA in the SECC... In BK's first year... huh... But UGA should win.

I don't see a path for Clemson given the conferences/teams ahead of them.

    Bama is done. No chance

Nope, you're right.  He retweeted pics from the game.   went to K State game with his good friend (K State commit, A. Johnson, QB) b/c it was the guy's birthday.  Sounds like he made a point of telling some people exactly why he was going.  Still has all his ND pics prominent on his social.  As does Greathouse, but he's quieter.

A&M isn't doing anything to impress the Texas kids.

    Texas is coming after Greathouse

I think we know why Austin left and there were rumours of Colzie and Styles transferring.

This team will lose 3-4 minimum with Buchner. Keep in mind they were protecting his glaring weaknesses all night. He will be forced to throw and will make a bunch of mistakes, because he’s not a good qb.

You all better hope Pyne gets in before another loss because if not it will get ugly. This veteran laden defence is about to go to waste.

    This is nonsense

The staff doesn’t even trust him. A qb draw on third and 18 down 4? Embarrassing. Pickup 10-12 and go for it or kick a field goal. Buchner didn’t get anything going on the ground all night.

That playcall was waving the whit em flag because they had absolutely no confidence in Buchner throwing it downfield. Every completion was way too difficult and his throws are flat out ugly.

I think they had no confidence in the OL pass blocking.  They couldn't keep OSUs DL off of him.  Osu won the game in the trenches.

3rd and 18 are usually qb draws or screen passes

First start in that environment against that team with a poor OL. He didn't turn the ball over.  He did alright.  Had a lot to work on but game 1.  He'll be fine.  We have other issues that are more important to address

He had no time and also the wrs don't create much separation.  At least not against that team.  You'll see a whole new offense and our next test for Buchner and the OL will be against BYU

    https://247sports.com/Season/2022-Football/CollegeTeamTalentComposite/

In my opinion, this is the biggest issue in college football at the moment. NIL is the other one and it might contribute to this ginormous gap or could close it with a better governing body. By my count, there are 128 five stars and 65 of those (51%) belong to the top 5 schools on this list.

We all know about the issues with the lopsided playoff games. I for one am sick of the same teams dominating every year (Georgia, Bama, Clemson and OSU). I don’t think any of these teams have been playing by the rules, between steroids and booster money there isn’t much of a chance for most schools to compete. This is bad for the sport.

No way should there be a 17.5 favourite in a top 5 matchup… not even in a top 10 matchup. We’ve seen the same story in all of these playoff games. It’s always the elite 5 star talent which tips the scales in the other teams favour. Unfortunately I don’t think ND has a shot unless Buchner turns out to be the real deal.

How does this get fixed? Better regulations? A new governing body and commissioner (breaking from the NCAA)? More severe sanctions for breaking the rules? The NCAA is a joke, for them to take away our wins for something so pathetic yet let other teams get away with bloody murder. I think breaking away from the NCAA might be the only way to fix this mess.

I understand the Ncaa has a ton of issues that need to be fixed.  This isn't one of them

Go out and recruit and coach better.  We're not handing out participation trophies and if a couple schools are too good, let's bring them down to the pack so everyone has a chance.

Hell no. This is dog eat dog. Go out and work harder to beat the top teams.  We're not giving it to you.  Stop complaining and get to work

If ND beats osu this weekend,  I could see us taking 6. Qb, 2 dl, 1rb, 2 wr/db's . Osu has a ton of elite 23/24 recruits coming into Columbus, and beating them in prime time, in front of several studs ND is already in on would be colossal.

I think many are underestimating what a massive boost to already strong recruiting under Freeman/ Bowden this would be,  since the prior staff wonvery few of these big games and failed to capitalize when they did. I'd bet several top 50 caliber players would become legit targets. Nil may still prove difficult to overcome,  but i wouldn't put it past this staff based on the tenacity they've shown this cycle.

That would put us at 29 recruits.  I dont think we go over 27 in this class

  12. 6 minutes ago, IA Irish said:

Totally agree 4th. They've already done it with Dylan Edwards to an extent, but they flipped him right after hew balled out at that future 50 camp.

We're hearing it a bit at qb. My guess is if we beat osu, we'll start hearing of all kinds of studswho are interested and wanting to visit.

We don't have many spots.  If we land Love and Lyons we have like 2 spots left

I have been watching some of the practice clips and Ryan Barnes always seems to catch my eye. He is such a fluid athlete and has great size for corner. Imagine him and Hart starting vs OSU, two 6’2+ corners with speed. Henderson and Joseph both have size and speed as well. I think they have the potential to give Ohio State fits.

Based on what I’ve seen versus top competition, I just don’t think Lewis can hold up vs elite teams. One poster said he has made improvements and I hope he has, however he’s just a bad matchup versus the Buckeyes.

I really think the secondary is going to surprise a lot of people this year.

He moved to safety, not permanently, but to get reps in at safety.  I dont think he is in the top 4 at corner right and Morrison might be passing him up soon.  Barnes must not have taken the jump he needed to

Well mostly Buchner. Mayer is an All American, Tyree has shown All American potential in glimpses and Styles looks like a thousand new yard receiver.

Receiver is mostly unproven, but with this many top 100 receivers, you can expect at least one or two to pop. I’m hearing so much of the OSU receivers but I think people are sleeping on ND’s skill players… they are going to be a problem for OSU’s secondary.

Buchner, Tyree and Styles barely have any production to say they are loaded. They all have elite talent but on the field haven't done too much.

I think they will all have big years but I can definitely understand nationally why there is so many question marks.  Besides Mayer and Patterson, the offense as a whole hasnt had much production

  15. 2 hours ago, coltssb said:

Not the defensive side of the ball. They have backups that have starter reps. But it is strength on strength with Ohio States offense. So it really comes down to that. Which unit will do enough to win the game.

I know.  He was saying the offense is loaded.  And I agree.  But it's unproven
