Wouldn’t read much into it at this point, but 1st team OL in drills was Alt, Kristofic, Correll, Spindler, Fisher. More excited than anything if Spindler makes that jump

Seems to be conflicting reports depending who reported it. Some had Carmody ahead of Spindler. But early practices tend to be more "seniority" based and then depth charts start to get more set after a few practices.

Parker got the OC job and ND hired a QBs coach.  It's not the fault of either of them and I wish them success.  That said, ND screwed this up in many ways.

I saw other posts saying that if ND doesn't think Ludwig is the guy, they shouldn't pay the buyout.  Who is it that thinks he isn't the guy???? Obviously Freeman thought he was that's why he was going to be offered.  For anyone other than Freeman to decide who is or who isn't a good candidate is just ridiculous.

Another screw up is not knowing what his buyout was and deciding that if it couldn't be negotiated down, the deal would be off.

How about parading Ludwig around at the hockey game for every media outlet to photograph him!  Is that a good decision???

Why is Parker not a good choice??? Would OSU, Ala or Georgia ever consider hiring him as OC?  Hell no.  That is the standard that I hold ND to which is obviously my fault because the ND administrative leadership doesn't hold themselves to the standard of a top football program.

I can only hope that unless Parker kicks butt next season, Freeman realizes that this situation isn't going to be improved much from Parker and they can reevaluate next year.

And the next step in that process is MF feels slighted, will have success next season b/c the team is stacked, and will vacate for the first job that will actually provide him the resources necessary to compete with the big boys.

Im not disagreeing, but why would Parker be a kick to the balls?..       we did hire a head coach with zero headcoaching experience..    are we saying they since freeman doesn't have an offensive mind and only a year of experience at the head helm...that he needs a seasoned offensive coordinator?  Or is there more to nay sayers ...   again ...im not agreeing or disagreeing...simply getting context from minds to typing

The main reason being perception. Tom Mendoza tweeted yesterday that in business, the only way to make up for a mistake on this level (which it obviously was) was to hit a home run on the hire. Parker would absolutely not be that.

He could succeed, but you bet your ass that every failed 3 and 2 or bad call this fall would probably result in ppl wanting his head on a platter.

Not to mention, I wouldn’t be shocked if Hartman walks.

I always used to refute that notion and say that they actually DID want an elite/championship football team even though they may not publicly state it. But when you see & hear some of the stuff Father Jenkins has said about the football program, I agree with the fact that they really only want "good enough."

There's an article from a few years ago with Father Jenkins clearly spelling out how he feels about the school's relation to its football program, which is basically that he does NOT want people to firstly think of the football team when they hear the name Notre Dame.

I hate to break it to him…

  5. It’s funny that this OC hiring process is what it took for some folks to realize the ND powers that be aren’t serious about being a national title contender.

There’s been dozens of reasons up until now to demonstrate they want a “good” team, enough to continue the money train, but not an elite team that would make them get outside their comfort zone.

Yeah, I would love to know more about the injury. If he can have that Asmar Bilal jump then the LB crew becomes nasty. Hopefully another healthy off season and a second year in the defense gets him there.

From your lips to god's ears, haha.

He was clearly told to do that though, to some level anyway. He could come off the edge some as well is what I meant. It is unfortunate too because all reports before he broke his ankle were watch out this kid is destroying practices.

Which if it was more of a run-fit blitz I get, but on passing downs, is the point to get to the QB?

Yeah, agreed, he seemed like a different player this year to what you could see pre-injury. Maybe he just wasn't ever truly healthy this year.

I'm interested to see what they can do with Marist and Kiser. Kiser was very good when he was inside toward the end of the season. Rotating him and Kollie would be nice. Slide Ausberry out with Sneed at Rover. Marist needs to find himself again or be put in a specialist role to pass rush.

Big off season this year to figure out a bunch. It feels like ND needs a Tevon Coney and Asmar Bilal improvement jump from 2-3 players on D.

My only problem with this is he was so bad at it. His rush consisted of running straight at the blocker every time and get stoned. I don't know if he thought he could run over more ppl than he can or what, but he was completely ineffective here. It's fine to move him here, but you have to coach the kid, he needs to learn some "moves" to get passed the blockers.

I just used heavy legs on Thursday as an example. No idea what the actual program is. But the S&C routine for backups basically assumes that they will not see much action in games and is focused on getting them ready for future seasons. Perhaps as @Synopticomentioned, key backups are excluded.

I mean, it makes sense, if you're a freshman or sophomore whose multiple spots down the depth chart, why wouldn't your S&C program be different? Most freshman come in and need to add size and strength. That's tough to do during season of play for front line guys when you're getting beat up on Saturdays and need a few days rest and recovery. But if your chance of playing is next to nothing, get bigger and faster.

Great news we needed another DL. Now they have to figure who plays where. Mills will probably permanently move to DT. He looked good in SC game. Just needs to continue to get stronger and he’ll be a beast.

Said this in the depth chart thread, but still feel we need another NT. Two if Aiden K goes elsewhere.

It's a tight window for sure.  Glad he can make the throw, glad his receiver caught it.  I'd love it if he can do that at ND from time-to-time, but I'm never really certain that that kind of throw is really the best option on a given play.  Seems like there may have been someone to throw to who wasn't in such tight coverage.

But, no doubt, he made it work.  He has the arm and the confidence.  That's probably more than ND has had in quite a while.  Glad ND has him in the fold.

Oh believe me, I'd prefer pitch and catch too but that throw speaks a lot to his vision and anticipation. As you said, something ND has lacked for a long time. Probably since Clausen.
