Once a player enters the portal the school is not obligated to take them back. So the answer is probably, it depends at that point whether ND wants them back.

I think the biggest factor is if the player wants to be there, followed up by whether or not the school has interest in them returning. That was my main question if we are actually actively recruiting these players like we did Houston Griffith or if we've turned the page.

A much more trusted insider basically confirmed the following will opt out:

Hartman, Alt, Fisher, Estime, JJB, Liafau, Hart, and maybe Bertrand.

I will say, JJB responded to a tweet about him sitting out with a "?" And I really would find it hard to believe a guy like Bertrand would sit out any game voluntarily. But the person who relayed this information is one of the most trusted beat writers out there and is rarely wrong on stuff like this.

Tosh Baker and Aamil Wagner would be the likely starters at OT for the bowl game then?

  3. We need a homerun hire for WR coach. The on-field product left a little to be desired this year, there's no denying that Stuckey definitely refilled the cupboard. With all the young WR talent at ND it should be a really attractive landing spot for someone.

Right now there is buzz that Rees will leave for Bama. Definitely heading that direction, should be over shortly.

I've seen that Carr was made aware Rees may or may not be here when he arrives, but what about some of the other 2024 offensive commits/targets? Cam Williams, Jack Larsen and Aneyas Williams are big ones that come to mind. Rees was the secondary recruiter on all 3 and the primary recruiter for Carr.

  5. I don't know how to feel about it, depending on your viewpoint it could be an easy negative recruiting pitch against ND recruits. But it can also be spun as a positive. At the end of the day if Rees accepts the job and leaves his alma mater for what's essentially a lateral move position wise is a massive L.

Yes I understand that Bama is loaded and that may streamline his way to a HC gig, but that doesn't matter when it comes to how coaches can spin that to 15-18 year olds.

  6. Sometimes people try to over-complicate things too or coin something with a different name to make it sound innovative. That's a fairly typical nickel front you'll see in 3-4 schemes, especially when your stand up OLBs/edge defenders are rushing, that all but makes it a 4 man front in regards to the d-line.

The Impact of the Patriots' "NASCAR" Package

These are nickel fronts by the Patriots, one of the mainstay franchises who incorporate a 3-4 defense. It's about identical to Freeman's "2-4-5".

Here’s my opinion on Bowen. He was always going to go to Oklahoma. He just didn’t have the balls to tell Freeman bye. What other reason would explain why he had it coming down to ND and Oklahoma all year long but didn’t even have the hat on the table. Then randomly pulls Oregon out of nowhere. This was a leverage play on his part. He wanted to go to Oklahoma but he wanted to get paid by them. He knew Oregon would pay. So he chose them and then discussed with Oklahoma this is what they are going to pay me. Can you make this happen. Obviously, ND said we are out. The only reason ND was still in this was if Oklahoma wasn’t going to pay. Then his second choice was ND. Oregon was a power play that worked. Good for him to make that money. But now he’ll be forever linked to the dumbass kid that doesn’t know which side of the bed to piss on.  Now go get toasted on Oklahoma’s defense.

    Nailed it.

Absolutely, this kid took the Nike money and dissed both ND and Oklahoma in the end. Think he kept his ND commit to the very end to keep his momma off his back and then disrespected her (you could see that in the video). Moral of the story: never lie to your momma or to the ND coaches. Hope he spends his bag of money on getting some help from a psychiatrist!

I wouldn't want him if he turned full circle honestly. If you want to be about the money, I'm not mad at you for it, just say that. Kids obviously worked hard and is ultra-talented, but do it the right way. Make it about the money from the jump. And sure he could have been conflicted, but like many others have said if you aren't just sure, don't sign during the early enrollment period. Stretch it out to Feb. His mom obviously had no clue it was going down like that as her reaction was genuine shock, like she anticipated ND. Recruiting is wild and almost not even worth following with the way NIL is right now. Even when they sign on the dotted line, it's not a 3-4 year commitment these days. NIL can and has swayed a ton of kids just one year into a school. There's plenty of talented kids who get by on talent alone and aren't ready for big boy college football mentally and one year may not be enough to get CFB ready. If they keep jumping ship they're never going to get prepared for the NFL like that.

Two weeks out from the Gator Bowl, with national signing day right in the middle - 12/21.  I get the burnout, feeling it, too.

Once the recruiting dust settles (and with this class there is plenty of great news), the bowl game will be exciting (to me) for the younger guys.  I'll be looking for - Botelho rotating at Vyper, Jaylon Sneed getting reps, Kollie seeing more snaps...

On O, hopefully Rees will be ready.  I think Angeli deserves some time, so hoping they have at least a package for him.  Now's the time.  TE by committee, who'll get the targets?  Jayden Thomas, Tobias Merriweather, Colzie.  Even the OL rotating Kristofic, Schrauth, Spindler, Carmody will be interesting.

ND has some things to solve (QB primarily), but most of the playmakers can't even buy a beer yet.  Close this stellar recruiting class, flash some youth in the bowl game, and come into spring with some confidence.  Beat Ohio State out of the gate in '23.  Make a run in '24.  I love the direction we're going!

Bowl games, I get it - typically overhyped.  But a lot to get fired up for in ND football right now!

I want us to unleash Kollie and Sneed. Will there be growing pains? Sure, but nothing beats game reps. But their ceiling is just WAY higher than anything else we have at LB.

I think Buchner/Angeli will not be looking for one 'go to' receiver like Pyne did with Mayer.  May spread it around more.  Angeli is apparently more accurate than Buchner.  I don't think Rees/Freeman would dare start Angeli, though, unless Buchner just can't play because of his now-almost-completely-healed injury.  Starting Angeli would lead to a Buchner transfer sooner rather than later, and that would not bode well for next year.

Can Rees Construct an offense which highlights Buchner's skills...?  Nope.  Can Rees adjust during the game?  Nope.

It is my belief that ND can have an effective offense if the players execute and the plays called during the game make sense in the moment.  I have not been a believer in Rees as the OC at ND.  He's had a few good games, and many bad ones (IMHO).  That's not good enough to take ND where we all want it to go.  If Rees can create schemes optimizing the talents of the players he has, rather than just creating schemes that work well in his head, ND will do just fine.

You're not off base, the concepts Rees used with Buchner against OSU were extremely too vanilla, we made a bad defense look good because it was so predictable. He simplified the game plan too much, you can't win in major CFB like that. If you don't threaten all levels of the defense you're going to get destroyed against the major players in the CFB world.

That's IF Bowen flips...recent tweets seem to indicate he's talked to Freeman and he might stick.

I double down that Schuler and Minich are both dudes.  You never know how a kid develops, but all 3 safeties in this class are highly-rated, high IQ, and appear hard working.  They'll hit the gym and contribute soon.

We're in good shape no matter.

As to Limar - I really like his film, but Jeremyiah Love seems to be the quietest of the RB hype.  The kid is 100M Missouri State Champ @ almost 200 lbs.  Leads with his grade point and Nat'l Honor Society on his twitter.  That's what ND needs.

The uglier NIL stuff will sort itself out.  We can tiptoe and still succeed.  I don't want to lose any of these commits, but unless we lose them all we'll be able to move on.  A lot of future stars in this group!

This one? Not mad at it.
