I think that its a bigger PR hit in a closed circle of people than a real hit in terms of the future success of the football program.

Its an offensive coordinator hire.  Lets blow it out of the proportion.  One that matters to those close to the program more than it does to college football in general.

Not paying in the past means little if they are willing to spend when it arises again. Make sense? It won't be the reason a recruit chooses somewhere else.  It won't keep a coach from coming here if the money is right at that time.  I'm not saying it has no  importance..it matters.  Its embarrassing (assuming we have the actual story...there is disputed info now).  Its just I don't think it has far-reaching ramifications.

If Parker is successful...the impact this will have will be next to nothing.  It will be forgotten.  If he fails, it will remain part of the story.

I disagree with 90% of what you said, because  it is not blown out of proportion. Even if it not true 100% ND really just stepped in it. It is an unforced error.

Put all that aside, ND really needs to grab ahold of this story, this late reaction from them has allowed a narrative to be set by others. Again I work and teach in this area, so much of my anger is directed to them not being proactive and allow the story to get away from them. This was a simple story to get ahold of if done properly. But they let it fester and you better believe it will be used against us harshly and fairly.

I agree ND screwed up the Ludwig situation, at least to some extent. It was a poor look no matter what happened. I am staying positive about Parker for now because I have no idea what to expect. I do like the Gino hire quite a bit and think the OL hire will be important to move forward.

Little bit of Parker samples here:

Gino hire in a vacuum is fine, but it is getting overshadowed by the shitshow that ND has put forth. Parker is a low hanging option, but he is ours, so now what?

Tough to know who the right hire is.  Whisenhunt probably was not an option for ND - that's fair to say.

Hopefully it's cathartic to bitch about Parker, I guess.   Probably time to get a TE and OL coach discussion, though, because spring football is in 2 weeks.  I, for one, am good with the choices, don't really give a damn about the process for whatever perceived failings, and am looking forward to jumping in with the guys we have (and will have).

Alluding to talk of perceptions being important, it'll be productive for those close to the program to get over it and get to work.

Parker is a crap choice, but whatever it is made. The fact is ND has a hole to dig out of from this point. Will ND learn from the mistake? Or will they do what they usually do and get in a huddle and smell their own farts and believe that they are smarter and better than anyone else?

And on top of the Rees hire,Saban hired Ken Wisenhunt- a two time NFL Offensive Coordinator and two time NFL Head Coach- and John McNulty a two time P5 Offensive Coordinator. Their offense War Room is shopping down a different aisle than ND.

Different store, not aisle. We are at Dollar Tree, Alabama shops at Publix.

I think this is greatly exaggerated.

Rees wasn't Saban's first choice. 99.99998 % of recruits will never have heard Ludwig's name and in a few weeks (days?) (maybe already) this will be a non-issue.  Results will matter...Parker's ability to connect with recruits will matter. Perceptions change rapidly.

So you think all the media attention that ND not paying (again not married to Ludwig) won't matter? As a person who works in the area of perception ( I teach in the field on the communication side), I find this very hard to believe. But hey, maybe your right and people will not pay attention to the negative recruiting that will come (It will happen). Perceptions can change rapidly, if you help change them. ND does not do that, they will have friendly media come in and protect them and not change a thing. They tend to get water-carriers who will defend them no matter what. Why change if you get a loud minority who will co-sign your behavior? It has assisted in hamstringing ND and protecting them from any real change. But hey, keep believing!

What do you believe to be greatly exaggerated? ND gets hammered on the recruiting trial for not being committed already, do you think this helps ? Simple yes or no answer. Does the appearance of this help ND? Or is it more stepping on your dick moves performed by the admin at the expense of the football program?

Well, “maybe” the administration is starting to finally feel the crunch from the blowback that was felt after the Ludwig debacle. Sounded like they tried to go back and re-hire him. But, they did go back and just hire from with-in. So, I’m not too optimistic about what they are doing. I just hope Parker is better than most are giving him credit for. Can’t do shyt now.

That is one of the huge issues with ND, they are reactive, rarely proactive.. How long did it take to get a training table? Upgrades?

Swarbrick needs to retire, we need a new AD.

  7. I do not know if Ludwig would have been a homerun for sure, but one thing for sure ND sure looks cheap and uncommitted. It really matters more about the perception at this point and that will have a long shadow. People can say oh move on, but it is not that easy. This will be used as a club against ND and it should be. We look uncommitted, we sound uncommitted. That will hurt MF going into big recruits homes.

Parker could be great, but that fact is this looks horrible and will set up an even more difficult recruiting and perception pathway for ND. Why people refuse to see this baffles me.

How do you know he’s not part of making this decision?  You don’t…

That would bring another layer of concern. Parker says so much without saying anything. It is a lazy hire and the whole process is a joke.

I can tell you what’s going to happen next season. The same thing that’s happened in the ACC era. Notre Dame will have a decent record due to it’s cupcake filled schedule, but will not in any way have a chance of winning a National Championship. Why? Because Notre Dame is not interested in doing what is needed to win a National Championship. This Offensive Coordinator debacle is yet another data point.

I’ve been saying this for years, but hope springs eternal for the fan base pining for glory days that are far in the rear view mirror. Notre Dame is no longer a destination program, it’s a transitional school and Notre Dame is just fine with that.

Yep, I was never a fan of BK, but he is being proven correct. ND is not committed to being the best.
