  1. Not great news, maybe this was coming or maybe it is related to our next OC hire. Guy was huge for the program and an amazing OL coach.

Harry Hiestand, a 40-year collegiate coaching veteran who returned to Notre Dame in 2022 for a second time as the Joe Moore Offensive Line Coach, has announced his retirement from coaching.

“I have made the decision to retire,” Hiestand said. “It is important to me to spend time with my family, as I have two kids competing in college athletics, one for his last season, and I have decided it is time for me to be a part of that. I am thankful for the opportunity Father Jenkins, Jack Swarbrick and especially Coach Freeman gave me to return for a seventh season coaching the offensive line at Notre Dame.

I just saw too many players open to be too critical of Rees. Coaches can't make the play. They can draw it, help practice it, call it, but when the time comes only the players can make the play work.

Very true faith, Ian Book was another guy who didn't see a lot of open WR. He was much more gifted with his legs and dominated the okay to bad teams.

  3. He is mia in all the recruiting pictures this week...

Do you think he's on a mission to bring home a grad transfer QB, or interviewing for HC gigs?

I'm really torn on my feelings about him as a coach, but he's definitely well respected in the industry.

    Took Cade off(Iowa)

Armstrong in the portal(not a popular choice)

Armstrong had an incredible 2021 and terrible 2022. 2023 likely lies somewhere between, I'd take him. Strong arm and can run, definitely a gun slinger though.

Doubt really that he's even eligible (ND requirements) unless he will graduate early.

My guess for Card...... TCU would be a great fit (he's from TX). TCU needs a QB for 23 (Duggan is a 4 year starter), and their team is very solid. And a great revenge motivation...

Doubt both Buchner and Pyne are back if we take a transfer QB. I know Pyne loves ND, and Buchner has sister coming to ND in 23, but can't see a 3 way competition.....

If Card could meet transfer requirements, he is likely the best outcome (between the 3). Depends how Freeman and Rees view him. IMO, his ceiling is much better than Buchner and Pyne. And fits the scheme. So perhaps a promise is the smart thing..

Duggan didn't win the starting job coming into the season for TCU. Chandler Morris should be ready to take over if he doesn't leave the program.

Thanks, @Irish_Thunder! Then I consider Cade for sure because that means hes a fit. What was happening at ND? Was that the Sanford Era? I'm sorry I should follow recruiting closer.

Rees was already the QB coach, but we had signed Jurkovec the previous cycle. We ended up taking Brendon Clark after McNamara left for Michigan.

    Added Cade McNamara,

@jessemoore97to answer your question a graduate transfer is the most likely. I have not heard the staff say whether they would take 1.

History: Coan had actually committed to ND to play Lacrosse before receiving a football offer from the Badgers.

So my recruiting guys out there: @Big23Head, @tneun89 and whoever else knows:

Did any of these guys have an offer from ND when they were recruited? I assume it would need to be a guy ND knew. Recruiting is a relationship business.

McNamara was at one time a commit. None of these other guys were ND offers that I know of, if that matters. (Per 24/7)

    Isn’t he drew Pyne 2.0 ?

6'1, similar traits but much better on timing throws and ever so slightly bigger arm then Pyne. Not our ideal QB choice but I think he could win games here if we don't get one of the bigger options.

  9. Really nice hire for the Badgers. I wonder what Jim Leonhard decides to do? Potentially could see him bolt to take the Packers DC job which he had turned down a few cycles ago. I work with Leonhard's cousin here in WI, so always follow closely with eyes on the next ND/WI game at Lambeau.

Also wonder if Graham Mertz will hit the portal, he showed a lot of promise early but has become a whipping post for their fan base more recently.
