Brian Johnson would be a grand slam of a hire. His Florida offenses were ridiculously good.

Yup. This would have every appearance of a top notch hire and would create legit momentum for us to build off of. Hard to judge his recruiting at Florida and they inexplicably underutilized Dameon Pierce, but they did a lot of other things right. And, flipping Hurts from a borderline bust into an MVP candidate cannot be dismissed. This is the first name I've heard that grabs my attention.

Looks like Rees took the Alabama job......

If you're looking for a silver lining, there can be no doubt that ND has graduated from being a "farm system for bottom dweller's of the Big 12" to "a farm system for the top of the SEC"

Why? You ever see those sideline shots of Saban screaming into his headset? Who do you think is catching his crap? That's right the OC! And they can only take his crap for so long. At ND, Freeman lets Rees run the show on with no interference. It will take guts but he'd be wise to tell Saban "no thanks, I'll pass on the ulcer" and take that salary ND is willing to match and stay put.

A coordinator at Rees' level has zero issues with getting reamed out. You don't make it to that level without being around people that are willing to hurt feelings if that's what it takes to succeed.
He might enjoy having more latitude and it might be possible that Freeman gives him that, but he won't turn down Saban (or leave him early) because he got yelled at.

  4. I'm sure that I'll be totally in the minority here, but I think this is totally awesome. Both sides get in bed with dogs and wind up with fleas. In the past, one side wouldn't have had to deal with the reputation hit of being a slave to their own greed. The more that "Free Sneaker U's" get caught jerking recruits around, better for us. The more that there's universities out there waving the kind of cash that attracts mercenaries, the better for us.

I thought that Pay to Play was not allowed. I cannot believe that anyone is going against the rules when recruiting. Surely the NCAA will step in to address this.   😆

well, "pay for play" is allowed. I mean, I get what you're getting at but technically, everything here is in line within the rules. A "3rd party" signs an agreement for an incoming player and he decides he wants to transfer out.

He’s ok but they need Lambert way more. You can’t just settle for lower rated players bc they’re easier to sign.

This has hardly been a problem on OL recruiting dating back like 15 years. Of all position groups not named "TE", we've pulled talent consistently (both blue chips and 3-stars that hit). This includes a nice long stretch with Heistand. If he's offering a 3-star, I'm not stressing about it.

    From Irish Ilustrated's Tom  Loy:

I’m not sure this is my final update before Wednesday, but it’s starting to look like that. Here is what I know about Notre Dame and five-star safety Peyton Bowen less than 24 hours before he puts pen to paper and signs his letter of intent.

Just as a refresher, here is what I wrote on Monday.

“My feeling on this has changed in the past few days. I went from nearly changing my Crystal Ball pick to Oklahoma and joining Brandon Drumm and Steve Wiltfong, to holding off because of new intel. Trust me, if I felt like this was a slam dunk for Oklahoma, I would go ahead and change it just like I did for Jayden Limar and Oregon. I’m now feeling more confident about Notre Dame’s chances, which matches the feeling of the Fighting Irish staff. Look, I know how confident Oklahoma is and I know what everyone near his hometown is saying, but if Bowen shuts things down and signs with Notre Dame, at least as it stands right now, it genuinely wouldn’t surprise me. There has been plenty of movement behind the scenes to make me think the Fighting Irish remain very much in this race in the homestretch. We'll see how things go over the next 48 hours.”

Here is how I feel today.

I still believe, when all is said and done he sticks with Notre Dame and chooses the Irish over Oklahoma and Oregon. I know. I get it. I'm essentially on an island here. That’s the feeling I have based on multiple conversations over the past 24 hours. He’s had plenty of time to decommit since first pledging to the Fighting Irish way back on Jan. 1. He’s had nothing but time to change his mind. He could have had an easy out from the class and take official visits, which Marcus Freeman asked his commits not to do while being committed to his program. The reasons he picked Notre Dame are still the same now as they were many, many months ago. His bond with Freeman and safeties coach Chris O'Leary is second to none and his connection with the other Notre Dame commits carries a lot of weight in this one. My Crystal Ball remains unchanged and still sits on the Irish. Right or wrong, that’s where it’s going to stay.

There were many players recruited by Weis that would make the NFL on that team. Welcome to DomerDomain @Our father!

I dunno. Much of this is subjective and I don't see an easy way to pull data, but OP's comment rattled off about 10 names. Compare that to this list...
    https://www.ourlads.com/ncaa-football-depth-charts/active-nfl-players-by-college/notre-dame/91487

And it's easy to get to 15 names of players that are making a definite impact in the NFL. And, that doesn't even account for the fact that half of the names OP listed (Floyd, Watt, T'eo, Walls and Allen) all passing through the NFL like a bad taco.

It's legitimate to say that Weis left better players at WR. Beyond that? 🤷‍♂️
Take away WR (and possibly QB) and I'd easily prefer every other position group in '22 to '12.
