So here we are, and there they are. Two 4-1 teams with youthful rosters looking for a foothold to take one-step closer. Built up from the ground, both teams have stressed that reemergence starts with recruiting. And while taking on more experienced foes, both have showed the propensity for the wow factor.
Why would five-star defensive-end, Marvin Austin, choose North Carolina over a slew of SEC schools? Not even mentioning Greg Little’s spurn of other “top-notch” programs. And what’s with Notre Dame inking of the number one enrolled class after a 3-9 campaign? Maybe they all want to be part of something special, something in which they have contributed for?
But as the season goes on, the wow factor doubles. From blocked punts to end zone fades, both seem relatively easy now with added stars, young stars–stars who came with the intent of change and have followed through.
With all of the increased talent, these two teams are steadily headed in the right direction. Both have turned completely around and look forward to using this game as a national baptizing. So here we are, and there they are. A showdown looms with promising futures despite the loser. To the victor goes the spoils—spoils of this season. Both are on the rise and both will play with fire.
In the age of meaningless games—games that shed zero light on either team—this match-up bares merit. Not only will it add exposure and respectability, it can take a young team and surge them ahead, playing with inspired and deserved confidence. One thing’s for sure, you might not want to miss this game—it has classic written all over it.
