it says on scout that Baldwin has us among his favorites. Does anyone know how many schools he's down to??

I think its ND, Pitt, and Michigan.

Isn't he visiting Da U this weekend?

I remember reading that his 5 officials are UF, "The U", Pitt, Michigan, and ND. Correct me if I'm wrong?

And even at that, most people believe that ND, Pitt, and UM have the inside track.

I'd be happy taking either Floyd or Baldwin to compliment Goodman in this class. I'm also going under the notion that J. Brown hops aboard. A class of Goodman, Floyd or Baldwin, and J. Brown would seem good to me. But of course I'd wish for all of them to commit.

Future looks bright at the receiving corp, and even brigther at the TE position. ND is going to be fun to watch in the coming years.

i would disagree slightly as i think floyd is the *must* get out of the people you mention. i know baldwin is freakish but i'd prefer floyd...

How bout both...

Anyone else thinks it might be difficult to get both Baldwin and Floyd given the scholarship crunch and the fact that Jeremy Brown will probably decide much earlier than Baldwin? If Brown commits then I think Baldwin is battling several different guys for the one or two scholarships that Coach Weis might hold for top recruits.

i don't think so. i think brown is being recruited as a CB that could get a shot at WR if ND doesn't land baldwin. i also think that CW will try to hold a spot for both floyd and baldwin if he has to, CW realizes that he needs to bring in three top WRs in this class.

If CW is holding a spot for both Baldwin and Floyd then someone is probably going to be turned away at some point. ND needs to hold a spot for OL, another LB, and at least one WR. I think that would take us to 21 commitments. If Brown wants to commit at the end of this month then that is 22 spots taken.

What happens if both Filer and Sabino wants to commit? That would take ND to 23 commitments while still waiting on one of WRs to commit as well as the RB spot to shake out with Ryan Williams and Carlton Thomas. If you take a commitment from both of those spots then you are at 25 which I don't think is happening. Brown committing early is going to effect some spot be it the WR spot, the RB spot, or the LB spot.

I am not saying having Brown's commitment is a problem because I really liked his video but with it seeming like Baldwin will go for a long while and Brown being an athlete that can play WR as well that he might in fact take one of WR spots that is being held or some other spot is going to lose out.

The fact that we'll have a fairly deep backfield (Aldridge, Allen, Jabbie, Schwapp) for the next few years along with the absence of Benn and Little make me think we should take another WR regardless of #'s. BTW, any chance that those two combine for as many wins during their college careers as the class they walked out on?

I'm with you sig. I'm really just echoing your sentiments, but I'll try to lay it out in a visual manner.

We know that getting a commit is a virtual lock at the following 3 positions:

WR - Floyd?

LB - Filer?

OL - Robinson?

That puts you at 21. From there, you could feasibly make a case for any of the following positions/recruits:

DL - Forston (staff very much talking to him; he's still interested in taking an official; he's a NSD 5 star caliber guy)

LB - Sabino or Compton (Compton claims that the staff told him they want to take 5 LBs)

DB - Jeremy Brown (multi-day visit coming at the end of the month)

RB - Ryan Williams, Carlton Thomas, or Cyrus Gray (Williams visiting with his Mom in August; Thomas planning to decide sometime in October - earlier than previously reported)

WR - Jonathan Baldwin (same description as Forston's)

OL - Matt Patchan (same description as Baldwin's)

We don't know the ceiling just yet, but 23-24 is the best guess. For the sake of this debate, lets go with 24. Based on some of the limited indicators we have, the best bets to round our our class would be at RB, WR, and LB.

However, the monkey wrench comes into play if Jeremy Brown gets bowled over during his stay in South Bend, and he opts to verbal. Not that he's a bad player - I very much like him - but there is virtually nobody that looked at our recruiting class and penciled in 4 DBs. He'd be a "surprise" addition, unless he comes in as an athlete, but thats another story unto itself.

And on top of that, there's a chance we're still involved with the All-World Floridian recruits in Patchan and Forston. I guess what I'm saying is I think "Baldwin's spot" could be fair game with the # of talented guys still out there. It'll be difficult to turn away, say, Etienne Sabino, or Carlton Thomas come October, in favor of just a chance at Baldwin come January.

If you had to ask me, I think a 3rd WR spot is contingent on if any of the 05 WR's emerge, and how the combo of Kamara and Tate progress.

By the way, I don't even want to think about the #'s crunch we're facing if some 5 star guy re-ups his interest in the Irish suddenly because of our momentum (i.e. Hale, Hill, etc), or there's a 2nd coming of the "Taylor Dever late bloomer story". Bottom line is, it'll be a lot more difficult this year to "hold" spots for any body.

Nice breakdown Calves. Lets look at potential timing of commits:

TR- Soon (Could be silent?)

Filer- This weekend

Brown- Last weekend in July

Sabino- Could he be early August after his visit

Williams- Could be early August

Thats 23-- I also think that Floyd commits before the season and thats 24.

What then??

then it looks like we'll only be able to take 2 5th yr sr's.-Lambert and Crum Jr........ thats if the staff wants them back. with zero 5th yr guys comin back we're max'd out at 26

He'll be down in Coral Gables for 3 days. I hope he has a good visit.

Nice breakdown, Calves. I will add that if Jeremy Brown commits, he's not necessarily coming in at DB. I'd say he most likely would come in at wide-out, at least that's where he said CW sees him...
