I know everyone is psyched because of the McCarthy commit and ND's recent recruiting success. And I think everyone wants to fill up this class as long as we have the momentum.

My question is, do you think CW is saving any scholarships for extenuating or unforeseen circumstances. For instance, one of current recruits ends up with a severe injury, someone not on our radar right now comes out of no where this season, or ND miraculously goes 11-1 during the regular season and the best of the best (hands down 5 star talent) start inquiring.

Just wondering.

I would say that CW will at least hold 2 Schollies for those 5* recruits or the one who comes out of no where.

im not sure he's holding any schollies, but i think he's just gonna let the cards fall as they may.

He's setting the stage for the future of ND recruiting. He's telling kids in the future that the ND ship fills up quick and they will need to jump on board early.

As for saving spots, those are available based on how many transfers, EE's and 5th years that are brought back.

Totally agree Ziggy. I've been saying this for a while. If guys he wants are willing to commit, I don't think he holds any schollies back. That being said, I do think those coveted guys would be made aware of any situation where they may be lsoing their opportunity to get on board.

In an ideal world, I think bluester is on to something. If the class were coming together at a slower pace, I think it's actually a good idea.

But how do you go about implementing that today? This thing is obviously moving along at breakneck speeds if we've got as many kids now as it took the entire recruiting season to get last year. And the pace shows no signs of letting up, what with end of summer visits from certain Floridians, and a looming decision for Steve Filer.

I just find it hard to believe that Weis would turn away a 4 star kid who wants to commit today, because of some "what if?" scenario. These aren't chump change prospects left on our board; these are elite athletes that we're in contention for already. I could really see it backfiring this year, to have open arms for the first six months, and crossed ones for the following six for any reason other than "we're all filled up."

So, it really is a nice idea to save some scholarships to cover yourself in the end, but I think the actual implementation of such an idea would pose many problems this year.

Calves I see it like going fishing. If they are biting reel em in.

Let's see #18 in (possible #19 coming) Conventional wisdom is 2 more by Feb?

21 total. Then 'conventional wisdom is hold 2 for walk ons??? 22 or 23.

Sir John, we may have 2 more by the end of July if not more with the way things are going. I don't think CW is worried about walk-ons right now.

Hellll nooo on walkons...

Sorry SJ but that is crazy talk!!!! That wisdom is not conventional. Walk ons are a last resort. You don't save scholarships for walkons, especially in a year like this year.

Walk on stories are warm and fuzzies, but you simply can't pick walk ons over 4 star, top 100 caliber recruits.

Then again, I know how Sir John feels about the "underdog", so there's no need to rag on him over it. He just so happens to be the last man standing in the "save space for walk ons" corner. 8)

hopefully I did not appear to be ragging on SJ.

INMHO

The whole Idea of walk on is..... to push those stars you recruited that are simply crusing.

You got a hungry RUDY nipping at your lazy heels. You got your schollie and eased up.

There's a hungry kid behind you that will do four times better then your Scout or Rivals reviews.

I do think Bemenderfer gets a schollie. After all, he's on the current two-deep at a position of real need.

didn't he already get one?
