ill wait until CW says it instead of hearing tons of speculation

But that's the fun Nick. You and I both picked Zach if you recall? Boy were we wrong.

Does CW plan on publicy naming a starter before the GT game or are we gonna know when they line up under center for the first tim ?

i would have to guess, given charlie's background, that we will not know until game time. even then, i predict the scenario of 2 quarterbacks running out at the same time to add more confusion. maybe dd lines up under center then motions out for jc to connect on a bomb? i don't know. but that is what we all love about cw! total unpredictability! go IRISH!

gallup 21. Nick iam confused are you on the staff of DD and gold helmet also? Just was wondering, really none of my buisness i guess you can be loyal to several sites, What say you ?

I don't know if I'd say CW is 'totally unpredictable'. I mean I'm thrilled he's our coach and he is turning this ship around, but the man does have a tendency to be quite predictable with playcalling, specifically last year. I realize that he was playing with another coaches' recruits and trying to fix different ppl into changing schemes, but I got beyond sick seeing 70% of our offense being a draw to Darius Walker, a screen pass to DW, or a fade or slant to Rhema or Shark. Granted, you have to take what the defense gives you but aside from a couple trick plays with Samardzija passing or the Travis Thomas fake punt, we didn't see a whole lot more IMO. Hopefully with a more talented and flexible roster we start dictating games instead of reacting to what defenses give us.

as for the QB , OK MAYBE the fella is correct, i think that i will wait Charlie tells us , makes no difference to me , as for the 65 % run team that is in my opinion pretty accurate figure depending on which QB plays, i see a lot of playing time for all three for the first game or two. what say you? :)

IrishNY1985, your pretty accurate cw was predictable at times , this was because of the personnel that he had to work with , since then we have picked up a couple of good RB and linemen , i look for the the Irish to revert from last years game plan, with a couple of wins under our belt you will see a fairly good Irish team as we will be jelling by this time . go Irish :)

thanks rick, I agree and think we will jell, but I really don't expect CW to change. I am as excited as anybody to see our new backs in action and our young linemen destroy opposing defenses, but I highly doubt CW changes to a power running football team. We aren't going to be Oklahoma if you will. CW will run the ball alot, until our QB is ready and broken in, but over the long haul, I fully expect him to rely heavily on his chosen QB just as he did Quinn the last 2 years. He trusts his QB and expects him to both manage and win the game for him. And when our defense improves, CW will rely on his QB not to win the shootout, but to run up the score on weaker teams to improve our image with the polls and BCS. He won't want to lose ground to teams sitting home eating cheeseburgers, if you catch what I'm saying. Granted, an opposing team should always want to bury the other team, especially with as many traditional rivals as we have, but I don't expect alot of grind it out games where we run the ball 60 times and expect to win 17-10. CW will continue to air it out, but hopefully with more than repeated slants, screens, and fade routes.

fair points INY1985, but really we only have the last two seasons to go by and we really don't *know* if charlie's offense was geared to rely heavily on BQ because doing so gave ND the best chance to win or whether that's how he would run HIS offense, ya know? i am always going back and forth on whether one should look to his time with the pats to divine his tendencies or desires or whether now that he's the head man at the college level, most of that NE stuff is *not* a good gauge of where charlie's head is at vis-a-vis the offense.

plus, why recruit the RB position SOOOO heavily last year if ya just wanna go four-wide and throw 40 times? i dunno, it's really hard to predict what the offense will look like in a lot of ways..

good call blackirish, I guess we really don't know how CW will run 'his offense' but I was going by what he showed during his time with the Pats. He seemed much more into relying on Bledsoe and Brady than pounding teams with the running game. But if we have the bulldozers on the line and the horses in the stable, I'm all for running it down opposing teams throats,

I think Weis understands, and that is why he made all of his coaching staff go out and do projects in the offseason. I believe all the coaches went to different coaching clinics to expand their knowledge of the game. Weis always have said that he would change his game plan according to personnel, so maybe we'll see a different side of his offensive scheme with all of the key offensive starters having to be replaced.

All good points, this site is very good posters and have very good comments, Charlie will get us going if this retrial doesn't eat into practice time. what say you ?? :)

I have always thought JC. I will continue to think JC until opening day, when it is announced officially. (Lets face it, even if CW comes out and says who it is, it could still change. He could change his mind, or a player get injured). It makes too much sense. Somewhere else on the boards, I think the countdown maybe, I mentioned it logically would have to be JC. Then again, never trust anything until you hear it from CW as far as this goes...
