so it looks like we have a good shot with some WR's still on the board. If I made my guesses now I would say Baldwin and Floyd look to give us 3 WR's for this class. Butler is a distant 3rd but it sounds like he could still be in the mix. Also with J. Brown a guy who could go both ways I could see us locking up Baldwin, Floyd and being done with no worries.. What do you all forsee...?

Floyd and then much consternation until the 3rd WR commits. Could really be somebody from left field. Don't seem to have a 3rd guy leaning our way.

^^^^^^

jeremy brown possibly? i think JB is would be the perfect compliment if we would land floyd, wed have the two bigger WRs in Floyd and Goodman then Brown

CW prefers the big, jump ball WRs it looks like, but that could also be because very few burners have committed to ND during his tenure so far. However, I think a guy like Goodman, tho a big receiver, has that underrated speed, similar to (gasp) Jeff Samardzija. We don't necessarily need 4.3 burners starting all over the field at WR, but one or two wouldn't hurt for sure. A guy that just flat out terrifies opposing defenses with his big play capability. Maybe a guy like George West or DJ Hord can be that guy, the only thing with our current WRs is that they are young and untested, so we don't really know. Grimes should be solid but we really need one of the '06 guys besides West to step up to the table. If not expect to see an awful lot of young freshman Kamara and Tate.

Anyways, back to '08, I love our chances with Floyd and think we're growing on Butler but that doesn't mean we'll get him.

Wasn't there recent talk that Baldwin is now favoring ND?

Yep. Too bad he won't be making a pledge with whatever lean he's got 'til sometime late fall/early winter.

Since Floyd is just about an ND lock, I think there are only a few guys here that the Irish need to focus on. We'll find out what the deal is with Butler in a hurry, and Baldwin is certainly no "B-list" fallback option if we wiff on Butler. And if things go south on both those fronts? Maybe try to get in on Morgan Carter, or Kenny Tate, or otherwise wait to see if a senior or two "blows up". I'll keep my fingers crossed for the two who have offers, with my preference going to Baldwin.

On a different and unrelated note, even though I hate the expectations that go along with player comparisons, I've finally thought of a player who from a HS prospect/background stance is more similar to Jonathan Baldwin than Calvin Johnson.

Remember former Stanford WR Teyo Johnson? He too was a big, tall, athletic dual sport star - played some forward for the Cardinals during his 3 year stay. Just thought I'd throw that one at the wall, see if it stuck... or if anyone remembered for that matter.

Didn't he end up as a TE with the Raiders?

Yep. Drafted by the Raiders, then got cut and was bounced around to Arizona and Denver.

If Floyd isn't going to commit in 4-5 months, then he's anything but a "lock".....I've been through this rodeo too many times to believe that. Brings back memories of that WR from DC

There's a big difference here, 1. Benn wasn't from the Midwest, and 2. (more importantly) Benn wasn't from a ND pipeline HS like Floyd is from

never mind, I thought Calves said Floyd was going to take 4-5 months to decide, not Baldwin. Let me rephrase that...not too confident in Baldwin right now :)

... I don't think anyone feels confident in their chances with Baldwin right now, including fans of UM and Pittsburgh. Having to wait close to half a year, and see how your football team does can do that to ya  .

Other a few players here and there this whole leans and favorites stuff is BS and some of you take it to far and look too much into it. Yes sometimes after a recruitment is coming to a close you can figure that talk of leans and what not can be taken more literal than at other times but for the most part especially in early on in ones recruitment.

For the most part if a player knows where he's going to go for sure he's going to announce it now and get it over with there are some that will wait because they apparently think it's cool to anoounce at the AA games or on NSD.

ND has put themselves in good position with WR's Floyd, Baldwin and Butler and thats all they can do and that doesn't mean they will get any of them.

Unless your hearing it from the source of see it first hand we can't tell how good ND is actually sitting with these or any other prospects. I find it laughable that some think Butler is a lost cause because of a preconceived opinion that they have because his father played fpr F$U or that he's had good things to say about USC but who knows how true that it is? We look to much into some of this without taking in the account if this stuff comes from a biased or an unbiased.

The point is that alot of you are taking some of this too far without all the facts and when it comes to recruiting we won't know unless the prospect blogs his every feeling and lean.

Take Ethan Johnson fopr example so many believed that he was a USC lock and that ND had no chance and you based that off info that was wrong or completely untrue. Some of these things thaty some of you take as gospel when the majority of the time the info is incorrect because it come from some biased opinion of reporter and then people run with it.

Let's see "...taking some of this too far without all the facts"...sounds like

Homo Homo Sapiens of the Terra Prime system....ding, ding, ding, ding, ding...we have a winner.

Now come on Ricochet, what fun would it be if we all couldn't pretend we (NEW) something we didn't?

Ya if there were no jumping to conclusions or taking too far there wouldnt be an Irish forum for discussion...makes the board interesting if nothing else

I am really excited about Goodman. I thought I read he ran a 10.8 100 M, which is sick fast for his size. I have a good feeling about Floyd. I think that in the end he will be Irish. Which, it seems, would leave one spot. I would like to see that third spot go to (in order) Baldwin, Tate, or Butler.
