I didn't realize that UCLA was having such a great class. Most recruiting class rankings don't mean jack in June since most schools don't have many recruits yet and alot of the top recruits wait till late. But I do think it matters this year with us and a school like Texas since we have so many already locked up.

IMO, the trend in recruiting will be to commit fairly early in the process. I think that will eventually be followed up by an early signing period from the NCAA.

I agree completely that the "recruiting cycle" is going to be "pushed up" and that this year is indicative of that trend. i think a pushed up (prior to senior season) timetable helps ND a lot more than it hurts us. the people who like things the way they are now are the rivals.coms of the world--more time to wait for decision the better for them...more articles, more hits, more ad revenues.

I still think a top 5 class is possible. Especially if we land those 'elite of the elite' that we'll be putting the full court press on during the fall. Maybe get Arthur Brown up to South Bend for a game.....wow.

I read where he might possibly go to the USC/ND game.... POSSIBLY.

read he likes ND too----along with everyone else

Another factor I think that will work in our favor as far as ranking is that these are pre-season rankings. It wouldn't be surprising to me if guys like Hafis, Newman, Hunter, and even Cave and Poz move up. I also agree that Johnson will be a 5-star come January.

I have to admit that I had my doubts about how this recruitng year would go. With the disapponiting losses to UM, USC and LSU and the last minute defections in recruiting. There was a lot of disappointing press. Couple that with the fact that I thought most of our commitments would come during the season (and I think it will be mediocre), I thought a ranking in the 15-20 range was reasonable.

Man do I love being wrong! Dead wrong!

The LA area is loaded with top 250 talent every year, if UCLA can get some of the kids that usually run to Univ. of Scandals & Corruption they will continually have high ranking classes. Unless Charlie and Co. start snooping around more :D

Even if we can't pull more talent out of southern cal...having UCLA split the talent with USC will definitely help ND out (is UCLA off our schedule after this year, by the way?)

I would predict that when it is updated we will be in second and very close to first. By the end of next wekend, after adding Brown, Floyd and/or McCarthy, we will be in first. The points we will have would put us in the 5-6 range historically (only exception was 2005 at 8)... That is with only 18 of our 22-25 spots filled.

As next season progresses, we could see Crist and Johnson get a fifth star. One or more of the threes might move up four star and I think Hunter will move up placement. Given those factors we would seem to be pretty solid class right now... Should be pretty easily a top five class in the end.

Univ. of Scandals & Corruption...good one Diego!

atrain good point. Besides UCLA, Cal up north has been gaining on the recruiting of SoCal players too. And this year will be no different. Also, look for Dennis Erickson to make his eventual entry into the California scene. Sure, he is years removed from his days at the 'U', but I think he will pull some talent from the Univ. of Scandals & Corruption?

most shocking info from the new list:

Florida is #29 with total of 2 (two) 4 stars on board...i know its waaayyy early and Meyer moves late and effectively on guys, but you'd think after a NC he would at least be in the Top 25 at this point. all that matters is where you end up i guess...

here hoping that FSU, UM and UF all split up and mitigate the Florida recruiting hauls so no one team gets a mother load down there...and same goes for USC, UCLA and CAL out west.
