Great news Russ. Thanks for the update and I would have to agree with you.

I still think a top 5 class is possible. Especially if we land those 'elite of the elite' that we'll be putting the full court press on during the fall. Maybe get Arthur Brown up to South Bend for a game.....wow.

We have 10 of the Rivals 250...that could very soon be 12. That's top 5 for me!

well it'll soon be 13. NDs ranking still is still without ethan johnson pluse the addition of floyd and mccarthy.

I didn't realize that UCLA was having such a great class. Most recruiting class rankings don't mean jack in June since most schools don't have many recruits yet and alot of the top recruits wait till late. But I do think it matters this year with us and a school like Texas since we have so many already locked up.

IMO, the trend in recruiting will be to commit fairly early in the process. I think that will eventually be followed up by an early signing period from the NCAA.

our ranking doesnt have ethan johnson, we could be number two if they added him.

The LA area is loaded with top 250 talent every year, if UCLA can get some of the kids that usually run to Univ. of Scandals & Corruption they will continually have high ranking classes. Unless Charlie and Co. start snooping around more :D

I agree completely that the "recruiting cycle" is going to be "pushed up" and that this year is indicative of that trend. i think a pushed up (prior to senior season) timetable helps ND a lot more than it hurts us. the people who like things the way they are now are the rivals.coms of the world--more time to wait for decision the better for them...more articles, more hits, more ad revenues.

i was expecting us to be high, but not that high, very exciting.

I read where he might possibly go to the USC/ND game.... POSSIBLY.

read he likes ND too----along with everyone else

Another factor I think that will work in our favor as far as ranking is that these are pre-season rankings. It wouldn't be surprising to me if guys like Hafis, Newman, Hunter, and even Cave and Poz move up. I also agree that Johnson will be a 5-star come January.

I have to admit that I had my doubts about how this recruitng year would go. With the disapponiting losses to UM, USC and LSU and the last minute defections in recruiting. There was a lot of disappointing press. Couple that with the fact that I thought most of our commitments would come during the season (and I think it will be mediocre), I thought a ranking in the 15-20 range was reasonable.

Man do I love being wrong! Dead wrong!

Even if we can't pull more talent out of southern cal...having UCLA split the talent with USC will definitely help ND out (is UCLA off our schedule after this year, by the way?)
