ND FANATIC
Being an Ohio guy and watching his Moeller teams come up to Toledo in the 80's and absolutely put a pounding on some of the teams up hear, I have a soft spot for Coach Faust. He was a great high school coach and was just in over his head when he took the ND job. Even though he didn't last long, his love for the uiversity is still as strong today as when he was coaching. He is a great guy and ND should be proud that he is still a part of the ND family.

Guest Champion10
yeah i watched this show last night around 10 I think, you know it was actually the first time i have heard coach Faust speak, he seemed like a nice person(would some of you older guys say that he was the same way when he coached)? Guest Champion10
thats the impression I got. Like when Tim Brown dropped a catch that would have won the game and Faust goes up to him and says that its his fault that they lost the game no you tim...that just seems like a classy coach...obviously he didnt get it done on the football field but he seemed like a genuine guy. rdrdreamer
That was the hard part about seeing Holtz come in...was seeing Faust leave as he did. But like Black Irish stated...Holtz brought us back to being in contention, and my love for the program out weighed the loyalty to Gerry. blarney_stank
I was never a fan of the hiring of Faust as the ND coach. Even with his success in high school, making the jump to college is a big step and the jump to Notre Dame even bigger. In hindsight, I have nothing but great things to say about Gerry Faust the man. I find the way he lives his life an inspiration. He is truly a class individual with undying love for the University. I only hope I can touch half the people he has in his life. If true, my life would be an immense success. Great guy.

NicePost
I would have more respect for him if he had stepped down after his third year when it was painfully obvious he didn't know what the hell he was doing. Staying for a fourth year was wrong. Staying for a fifth year was criminal. He knew ND would never fire him, and I feel he took full advantage of that fact. EVERYONE knew after his third year that he was well over his head, and he knew it as well, but he was living his dream, and losses be damned, he was gonna stay put for the whole 5 years. What an awful five years. He should be ashamed for dragging the school through years of mediocrity.
