Jason
Everyone should check out the recruiting article on BGS up today. They did an analysis of the top 50 players per Scout and Rivals from the 2004 class. Interesting read. Also, pulled this from MGOBlog (Michigan blog), who pulled it from Jim Stefani: Nasty rumors: The recruiting year we were (are?) experiencing seemed to good to be true given the widely assumed post-season Carr retirement, but there are now internet rumblings that, um, are bad. Jim Stefani: I’ve heard from three separate sources that Michigan has fallen behind Notre Dame in the Jonathan Baldwin sweepstakes. This is the first bit of REAL bad news in the recruiting front this year. The other prospects Notre Dame has beaten U-M out for this year are all solid kids, but none are the difference-maker type of prospects that Baldwin is. Wolverine fans won’t be able to spin this one away should Baldwin go Irish. Do what you will with that information.
irishziggy
i think it's funny that the guys we already got from them arent "difference makers" b/c they're at ND now, but if they were at Michigan the recruiting season would've been too good to be true. Guest mpstunner11
read that on BGS. Gives one a sense that a top 50 player at ND should be as good a bet as any to be a star. Baldwin is starting to get me excited. I was initially worried b/c I thought he was a TE, but recruiting him at wide out and now hearing that he really likes us is good. Pryor eliminated Pitt for some reason and maybe that could affect Baldwin. Michigan appears desperate and I am really starting to like our chances. Something I read said he ran a clocked 4.31 at a Nike combine. So nix the Stovall comparison. I see Calvin johnson.
IrishCalves
To be completely fair, I don't think we should make any comparisons to Johnathan Baldwin, Calvin Johnson included. He's that unique. Lets look as HS prospects, shall we? Baldwin Johnson What separates them is about 2 inches, 15 pounds, and the position they play in HS. If we're being objective, those are some pretty big differences, particularly the position. Now, I know what you're getting after. When we say "Maurice Stovall", we all think big receiver. When we say "Calvin Johnson", we think athletic freak. It would be more apt to call Baldwin an athletic freak than just a big receiver, if you ask me. But with that in mind, comparisons are a slippery slope sometimes, if you're not careful with them. Calvin Johnson is a once in a lifetime type of physical specimen. He weighed in at about 240 pounds and ran faster than Adrian Peterson. He's got TE height, LB weight, and top end WR speed. That's simply amazing. So I'd be very, very careful in comparing him to a guy who is just a high schooler, let alone a high schooler who doesn't even play WR right now. What I'm getting at is, both CJ and Baldwin are one of a kind. They both could easily be lumped into the "freak" category of athleticism, but the comparisons end there. I think Jonathan Baldwin will be the only one like him, but thats just my take.
AnnArborsASlut
Here is a little tidbit about Baldwin: Quips win relay The Aliquippa boys' 400 relay team won the Class AA title with a time of 42.80 seconds. The team was made up of Rashad Kenney, Jonathan Baldwin, Antonio Reddic and Terrence Banks. The previous time Baldwin and Reddic were involved in a PIAA championship event, they weren't as happy. In March, Baldwin and Reddic were starters on Aliquippa's basketball team, which blew a big lead late in the game and lost to Philadelphia Prep Charter in the PIAA Class AA title game. "Someone from one of the relay teams actually said something to us about it before the race," Reddic said. "They said something like, 'I hope you show some better sportsmanship when you lose again.' " Baldwin also finished third in the 100-meter dash in 11.03 seconds. At 6 feet 6, 220 pounds, Baldwin has to be one of the biggest athletes to win a bronze medal in the 100. "It's just an honor to be third," said Baldwin, a junior who has numerous Division I college scholarship offers for football. "I never expected this. I was just going to run on the relay team this year." Baldwin didn't run track last year. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07147/789457-364.stm
Ricochet
I'm huge Baldwin fan and I can tell you that from a physical and measurables POV he's closer to being a Calvin Johnson rather than a Mo Stovall. Duval Kamara is the next Mo IMO but with maybe better upside. Baldwin is fast, very fast maybe not Calvin Johnson fast but fast and who knows maybe as he gets stronger and gets better technique he will get quicker and faster and be closer to Calvin Johnson's level. CJ is quicker and has better hops but I think Baldwin is naturally stronger and as he gets older and building his body up the proper way with the help of the staff I think he becomes a moster thats best described as a power WR. I think the best way to describe Baldwin is to compare between a mix of Mo and Samardzija. I think Weis would use him like how he used Samardzija but that he would have the blocking of Mo and be much stronger than the shark. BlackIrish42
ok, is it wrong for me to think we might get baldwin, floyd *and* butler?! if dreaming is wrong, i don't wanna be right!!
IrishKnight1023
We have Goodman and I wouldn't see us taking 4 under any circumstances. I think Butler will wind up at USC with FSU finishing 2nd. Our best chances are in Baldwin and Floyd and after that who else are we in it for? Nobody basically.

IrishKnight1023
Butler said he will decide in July now and ranted and raved about USC so....I would hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am. This is from another post.... Butler a fan of Southern Cal climate By DAVID PURDUM The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 06/22/07 Georgia has made the first cut of the nationwide recruiting battle for Norcross star wide receiver Brice Butler, who narrowed his list of college choices to 10 on Thursday. But don't be surprised if Butler heads to the West Coast. Butler said he'll decide between Southern Cal, Florida State, Notre Dame, LSU, Arizona State, Florida, Penn State, Oregon, Oregon State and Georgia. "I wanted to cut down my list because I'm planning on committing in July," said Butler, who has more than 40 scholarship offers. "I want to get it over with so I can focus on the season and winning a state championship." He said he receives about 15 letters from colleges and more than 20 text messages each day. Butler (6-2, 175) has visited each of the schools on his list, except Oregon and Oregon State. He's planning on visiting the Ducks and Beavers this month, before ending his search. Before this spring, he had never traveled farther west than Louisiana. Now, he seems to have become quite fond of the West Coast's climate. "The climate out there is crazy," said Butler of his visit to Los Angeles. "There's no humidity. When it's 90 degrees here, it's kind of sweltering. There, it's nice." Southern Cal coach Pete Carroll, Florida's Urban Meyer and Alabama's Nick Saban were among the numerous coaches who visited Norcross' spring practice to check out Butler. Norcross coach Keith Maloof had not spoken with Butler on Thursday, but said the list was about what he expected it would be. When asked if Southern Cal was the favorite to land Butler, Maloof said, "I try to stay out of it, so I don't have to lie to anyone." ND FANATIC
I think Butler follow Bryant to FSU. If we can pull Baldwin and Floyd, I don't care where they go.
Guest Alan Page
I like Butler a lot and have heard positive things about his recruitment by ND. But, if Baldwin is the freak (meaning the height/speed combo some of you claim he has) that I hear he is then he jumps to the top of my list of WRs. We need a few gamebreakers. As far as I can tell right now, we don't have any on the roster. Although, I haven't given up on guys like Gallup and even Tate to come through eventually. But, if Baldwin turned out to be even 75% of Calvin Johnson, he'll be spectacular in this offense. So, how legit is it that he runs a 4.4?
