Frank on Powerhour just gave his thoughts on needs for the class. He felt landing Blanton would fill the DB need and possibly closing the deal with Floyd within the next two months, Charlie would be OK with not sending more offers and letting the chips land with those already in the mix. He felt our needs were filled and not landing the others offered would not force CW to send out more offers. The only critical position at this point is WR. If Floyd isn't a commit going into the season, do we offer 1 or 2 more at WR? Do you guys feel 16 is enough, provided Blanton and Floyd pull the trigger?

Besides Blanton and Floyd, I think we need another DB, 1 LB, 1 DE, 1 OL and 1 RB. At that point I think we wait until AAA game or NSD and see if we're pleasantly surpised.

if we get blanton and floyd, i'd still like to see us get another wideout and another LB and secondarily, one more OL and DE, maybe.

CW and co. really have done a nice job addressing needs so far. but if we could get another WR to go with floyd, i'd be damned pleased! :D

BI, don't forget Goodman, I think he would be a great compliment to Floyd.

oh yeah!

ok, but i'd *still* like maybe one more WR? or should they take a RB instead? i'm just thinking about adding more of that "game-breaker" speed we should always be looking to "stockpile."

I think people "forget" Goodman because he committed so early and alot of people seem to think of him as a Robby Parris clone. This isn't necessarily a bad thing b/c I think Parris could be a good WR if he can stay healthy. However everyone also compares and will compare the 2 to Samardzija because they have similar body types and are white. Also both, like Shark, have underrated speed and long strides altho they are far from the "gamebreakers" that you think about ala Percy Harvin. And thats the thing, everyone wants a kid at WR with both size and blazing speed, and there are very few players out there. Calvin Johnson isn't just going to fall into our laps here folks.

I want to land big time WRs as much as the next guy, but a great running game with a nasty offensive line and smart, strong-armed QBs will compensate our 'average' WR core IMO. You have to think we're gonna start getting some dynamic WRs real soon, altho we might already have them starting with Kamara and Tate. We'll see.

I actually think 15 would be enough, given that the 15th be Robert Blanton. The # figure isn't so important, as it is to get our foot in the door at all our need positions. It looks like we'll have that accomplished by 3 PM EST tomorrow, so anything beyond that - i.e. being finished at TE, QB, and NT - is just gravy with me.

Not only do I think we're already "ahead of schedule", but we'll continue to move ahead of the pace. I also think that there's a strong chance that we see McCarthy and/or Slaughter join the fold before fall kicks in - potentially ending our defensive back recruiting. Not so sure on where McCarthy ends up, but I'm pretty confident that we'll end up with Slaughter - we lead for him now, and there is some question about whether he'll visit the other schools remaining (LSU and Michigan).

I would have thought the notion laughable more than a month ago, but there is a foreseeable shot at 18 verbals before we kick off vs. Georgia Tech. Wow. I think I'd :censored: a brick if Ethan Johnson was floored on his visit and pulled the trigger out of left field, a la Joseph Fauria. But thats getting ahead of myself.

I'm not so sure it'll work out that way. If anything, I think we extend offers even sooner than that, due to other guys like Brice Butler and Gerrell Robinson tuning down their interest in ND. Maybe Butler surprises us all, but I think there is enough positive vibe from Floyd's camp that they won't start to ratchet up the pressure on him until some time mid-fall.

Especially with this class filling up so fast, I don't see Notre Dame taking the chance of getting an itchy trigger finger on Floyd, and giving a scholarship to a lesser WR prospect because they couldn't wait 'til January or something like that.

I think we need to distinguish between needs and target goals... Have we met our needs? I would say Yes. The rest of the class is the icing that will make this cake so good (I suppose the analogy is based on my being on a diet). I would like to see another OLB, DB, OL, DE, WR, and RB. If we missed on any of those positions it would be ok.

If we get those two players I think ND can focus on its top remaining targets regardless of position and save a couple scholarships for those 5* that will not decide until NSD.

i just heard the guy from II say on a rivals vid that he thinks ND will take 22-23. isn't that more than most of us here have been saying? or am i remembering wrongly?

BI, thats the number(s) most of us have sttled in on around here. The high end has been around 25 and low side in the 20-21 area. I think we got sick of guessing ain went with the 22-23 number for conversation sake.

I know its been talked about, but different people have different opinions. Even tho its Scout, they have all 4 of our committed DL as DTs. So, out of Cwynar, Hafis Williams, Brandon Newman, and Omar Hunter, who will be playing DT and who will be the 3-4 DEs? Lots of options and arrangements it seems. One thing is for certain, we do not have "4 DTs" and "0 DEs" committed.

Cwynar has even played end for his HS team, so I'm willing to bet he'll be one in the 3-4 alignment.

Newman and Hunter both look like prototypical nose tackles to me. A little short, very stocky at 300 pounds, and very hard to move.

Hafis is a bit of a wild card. The staff is recruiting him as a DE, but his HS coach sees him at NT when all is said and done. Personally, landing our two ideal fits at NT in Newman and Hunter means Hafis will end up at DE, but thats just my take. I wouldn't be surprised if he's looked at as a "DL" player, sort of like how Derrell Hand is being treated as both a NT and a DE. Remember, it is still Charlie Weis thats running this team, so position versatility isn't a foreign idea to him.

Hey guys, this is a great site. :) Just a little info that might play into who we take or might hold a schollie for. My son went to the ND kids camp last week and Chris Stewart was helping Coach Latina with O-Line. Chad Klunder the DOFO also has said Stewart was with the offense now. Take the info for what it is worth I just thought I would share the only bit of small info I might get. By the way Braxton Cave showed up on his own and was checking things out.

Thanks for the tidbit. The staff did say the Chris Stewart NT move was little more than an experiment... we'll see what shapes up this fall.

Welcome Blue!

i knew there was no question at least 1 of the guys that switched from where they were recruited would move (nuss, nwankwo, and stewart). I thought Stewart was a def. If we get Ethan Johnson and Forston. I'm positive 1 more guy will move back, maybe both.

Welcome bue an individual none atomated welcome :o

oh and welcome blue lol...

1 of my other needs is another commit by the time i get back from class.

1 more DL, 1/2 more LB's (a guy like Hale could become anything he's sucha beast), 2 more WR's, 1 more OL, 1 RB (Carlton Thomas or bust, if no RB, accept another OL if a first tier guy wants to come).

I love that the laundry list of needs you've got looks like something we'd be posting in October, rather than late June. :D

I agree with pretty much everything you said. Maybe the 1/2 LB's could be 1 LB and 1 DB, but that one isn't a matter of life and death.
