So who is left in our top ten recruits for this class?

I just watched the Art Forst tape and I don't want to be too negative, but Lane Clelland is twice the player he is...

I would like to hear what positions and players you guys have as needs for this recruiting class...

This is not in any kind or order

1. Carlton Thomas

2. Michael Floyd

3. Brice Butler

4. Kenneth Page

5. Art Forst

6. Ethan Johnson

7. Marcus Forston

8. Steven Filer

9. Etienne Sabino

10. Robert Blanton

11. Jamoris Slaughter

12. Dan McCarthy

IMHO the absolute MUST GET for this class is FLOYD.

We need BIG TIME WRs!!!

No order here... this is my top ten of importance

1. Floyd

2. Butler, Baldwin, G. Robinson (one of them)

3. Ethan Johnson, Forston (one of them)

4. Filer

5. Sabino, Hale, Brown (one of them)

6. Blanton

7. McCarthy, Slaughter, Brown (one of them)

8. Ryan Williams, Carlton Thomas (one of them)

9. Patchan, Page, Forst (one of them)

10. A big shocker commit, to make a statement 8)

I think it is important to land the "#10 Shocker" sometime near the end of recruiting because it just boosts our efforts for next year.... its also a nice slap in the face to the other big boys who thought they had all the 5 stars locked up.... Let's let them all know we aren't playin around anymore!

some possibilities:

Will Hill - of course the top choice but most likely not much of a chance

Pryor - he said we were out after hearing he would be a WR yet we made his top 4... interesting

Hale - we're on his list... maybe getting a visit? I'm not sure

Some of the guys who we have a good shot with would also be big statements... because of their location and list of offers:

possibly Arthur Brown?

Butler

Sabino

Patchan

Ethan Johnson

1. Michael Floyd

2. Robert Blanton

3. Art Frost/Kenneth Page

4. Steven Filer

5. Cyrus Gray/Ryan Williams or Carlton Thomas

6. Jamorius Slaughter

7. Ethan Johnson

8. Jonathon Baldwin/Brice Butler

9. Ettiene Sabino

10. Dan McCarthy

NOTE ND Will probably only get 9 more guys and end up with 23 and that's at the most.

Coming up with a top 10 list can be taken many ways. 10 most talented, 10 most signable, 10 guys we need no matter what even if we miss on some guys, etc. So, the list is sort of a oddly balanced hodge-podge of those criteria, that can only be summed up as my "opinion" 8). This is only a snapshot of today's situation; things could obviously change.

1. Michael Floyd - pipeline, position of need, caliber of talent, we need him.

2. Robert Blanton - high on Corwin, position versatility, would get the ball rolling at DB.

3. Ethan Johnson - virtual 2 man race with USC, top 50 player, cherry on top of deep DL class.

4. Etienne Sabino - truest OLB recruit left on the board, high on Corwin.

5. Kenneth Page - we're virtually assured a spot in his top 5, a national caliber recruit, fills in one last hole.

6. Jamoris Slaughter - leading amongst his top 3, a (literally) big corner prospect, always nice to raid SEC/ACC country.

7. Jonathan Baldwin - looks like a 3-4 horse race, a physical specimen, fits ND's big receiver tradition.

8. Dan McCarthy - true safety, ND bloodlines, national caliber recruit.

----------The cut off may be at 22 scholarships. If not...----------

9. Carlton Thomas - best pure athleticism amongst RBs, had us leading at one point.

10. Steve Filer - staff first recruited him at ILB, then promptly filled those slots up. Maybe he can play OLB, but I prefer Sabino if we thats the case.

On the outside looking for various reasons (and they are in order):

Jeremy Brown, Matt Patchan, Marcus Forston, Brice Butler, Ryan Williams.

Most of the blue chip guys, like Hale, A. Brown, and Aghayere are such long shots that they haven't worked their way onto my list. Things can change, but... I don't see that happening.

agree with IC above, with one exception: I think we are closer with Forston than many of us really believe. IMHO its us or UM. thats it. ill take "coin flip odds" on that beast coming to ND any day, and thatis better odds than some we at DD have a better feel on...that being said, i'd be lying if i didnt feel in my bones that Forston ultimatley ends up at UM...but its June and we have a sick class so far, i can dream!

I will make this very easy Floyd IMHO is the #1.

CW must pull all the stops and get Hill out of going down to Fla.

I would like to get a RB maybe Thomas.

I'd agree with that on 2 counts. That Forst is not actually that great and Clelland is an animal.

Forst is a project type guy...yes clelland ahead of him at this stage...Forst just turned 17 last minth, he's 6'7 290...he knows he has work to do...he is a humble kid, with the nasty streak to lean back on when he needs it...the kid is working out like a fiend at his HS from what i hear...he is living in the weight room and really focusing on diet, nutrition, weights, strength, comditioning, in short he knows hhe has gotten by on his size at this pont and is doing all sorts of stuff he never did before and i will be at lot of his games this year and will get updates for evryone here...too many people selling him short on here IMHO...he aint Sam Young, but there anrent that many Sams in the shole country...lets get hima t ND, let our staff get him rady to be a big time OL over time and you have a 2 year starter at right ot left tackle when its all said and done.

The only concern I have with Forst is he doesn't even play LT for his HS. That is a red flag, because any coach with a brain would prefer to stick him at LT, if for no other reason than to protect his quarterback - let alone to show the college coaches he can do it. I like this kid a lot, but I'm not sure we'd be getting a "T prospect", so much as we'd be getting a "RT only prospect".

I'm probably sounding like a broken record on this one by now, but I really don't care this time, because many people here have missed the point on Will Hill. Maybe you specifically didn't hear the latest on Hill, I dunno, but the Irish are out of it for Will Hill.

Both Mike Farrel (yeah, I know) and an upper up from one of the major websites (not Mike Frank either) have confirmed that the Irish aren't part of his recently trimmed down list. Rivals dropped us from the list of favorites, and we all know how bad and slow the scout database is (Newman was still "High" on Kentucky the day before he verballed to ND).

Its a nice theory spinner, but I can't ask Weis to call on the "Jersey Gods" to intervene with this recruitment. We'd have to pull out all the stops just to get noticed again, let alone beat out the other 9 favorites and let this kid matriculate to Florida.

Bottom line: it's over. When you can't make a top 10 list, it is over.

Calves - I agree with you, but couldn't help but think of the line "Over. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? No." Perhaps a toga party might get us back in the top 10.

My wish list - I realize a couple of these are longshots

2 LBs - Two of these three: Filer, Hale Sabino

2 WRs - Two of these three: Floyd, Tate, Baldwin

3 DBs - Three of these four: Blanton, J Brown, Slaughter, McCarthy

1 DE - E Johnson, or Aghayere

1 OL - Forst, Page, or Lucas Nix

1 wildcard - Personally I want it to be Sam McGuffie, but would gladly settle for Ryan Williams, Marcus Forston, Arthur Brown or another top talent.

RU is going to get him. Eric Forster (All American DT) on Rutgers talked to him the other day for a long one on one and got the impression that RU fans should be very happy. From the beginning I just don't think there is any chance of him leaving state, he's a Schiano type kid.

hmmm, i still get the *feeling* he's headed to FLA...FWIW, which ain't much, i know! :D

and i still think sabino is a longshot for us as well. i dunno, i have always felt that butch davis would get him.

Hey Grover, why do you think we are in the mix for Nix? I must be out of the loop again.
